Yachts Miami Beach – A New Name for an Old Favorite

Yachts Miami Beach (formerly the Brokerage Yacht Show, and the Yacht and Brokerage Show in Miami Beach), a premier yachting event and staple on every yachting fanatic’s annual “to-do” calendar, has had many name changes over the years, and continues to attract crowds varying greatly in the intent behind their attendance. Spanning 28 years in longevity, this incredible Collins Avenue venue remains a perfect choice for buying, displaying and selling large yachts of just about every make and model. With this boat show makeover, comes the Miami International Boat Show’s move to a new location at the Miami Stadium Marina/Basin in Key Biscayne.

During its infancy, and when the National Marine Manufacturer’s Association (NMMA) created this window to the yachting world, they also disallowed the exhibition of yachts that were pre-owned or had broker representation. This was responded to by the Florida Yacht Brokers Association, and Show Management alike, by their simultaneous hosting of the Brokerage Yacht Show in 1988. This first showcasing included (34) brokerage vessels, but wasn’t considered the actual launch of this show until its second anniversary in 1989. The event grew into the Miami boat show of today, and this year’s event is expected to be the biggest and best yet.

As with all luxury industries, economic turbulence has affected yachting businesses, brokerages, new construction, and just about every facet of the marine industry. The luxury tax of 1991, subsequently repealed in 1993, hit the industry with great force, as did the downward economic tailspin of 2006; though, over these difficult and exhaustive years, this industry has rebounded monumentally, as evidenced by the increased presence at its Collins Avenue location. Stretching nearly one mile along Collins Avenue, and visible from all neighboring resorts and hotels, this awe-inducing display includes some of the most impressive yachts in the world. Arial photographs of this location, from inception of this show to date, reveal just how incredible this presence has become. Yachts Miami Beach show is free of charge, further enhancing popularity, and with the venue of the Miami Int’l Boat Show moving to its new location, we should see a record-breaking turnout of yachts and serious buyers from all over the world.

The Yachts Miami Beach and its accompanying sister show, the Miami International Boat Show, will begin on February 11 and run through February 15, 2016. The main event, Yachts Miami Beach, will be located on Collins Avenue between 41st Street and 54th Street, with a new superyacht display at the all new Island Garden’s Deep Harbor Marina located on Watson Island, created and designed to berth vessels up to 550 feet. A courtesy shuttle to this location is available from the Collins Avenue location. Over 500 yachts will be displayed this year, along with related service providers, accessories, and equipment.
