2015 Beneteau Gran Turismo 35 Yacht Review

Beneteau Gran Turismo 35 ReviewMake waves in the Beneteau Gran Turismo 35, with her thrilling speed and maximum lounging areas for basking in the sun and having fun. It has supreme accommodations and feisty performance in a lustrous platform. Known as the GT 35, she rests on the smaller end of the Gran Turismos. This yacht was designed to take the place of the 34, and has four larger counterparts consisting of the 49 Fly, the GT 44, the GT38, and the GT49.

Accommodations

On the GT 35, the helm, lounge, dinette, and sun pad will be your primary places to spend your time. The driver has excellent views due to the helm position, and a companion seat that is doublewide for sharing your fast paced views with a friend. In the cockpit you will have a dinette that is built in a U-shape and a haven facing the lounge to the right-side. There is the option of having electric grills installed so the chef can enjoy the guests as he makes the meals. The large swim platform also serves as a great view. On the side of the console of the helm, there is a staircase that allows those wishing to sunbathe to get to the foredeck. Although the stairs are small and only have low grab rails, they get the job done. The sun pad and backrests that fold up are very convenient and allow great relaxation.

If you pass through the companionway to the port of the helm, there is an access point to a comfortable saloon with a dinette forward. This turns into a vee-berth because of a hi-lo table. On the right-hand side, there is a small galley, and at port there is a small wet head that has a stained skylight. Behind is a lodge with double compartment and an opening port placed within a bigger hull side opening.

Performance:

Speed tests have shown that the GT 35 tops out at 34 knots, but because of its openness it feels even faster. With the Air Step Hull working with stern drives, this yacht really shows its capabilities.

Construction

The Air Step hull design that is patented by Beneteau is incorporated in the hand-laid fiberglass hull that is balsa cored. This makes for a more steady, gentle ride and increases performance by directing air, through vents in the hull, to the running surface. The GT 35 has six hundred horsepower generated by two 5.7 liter Volvo Penta gas powered v-8’s coordinated to stern drives. There isn’t much room in the engine room with the access opening being just 13 by 34 inches. Then engines have only four inches between them and there is a 5-kW Kohler genset placed there as well. Even in the tight quarters, everything is easy to access and those looking for a lot in a small package will appreciate this design. Interior quarters are designed for the allowance of another couple, increasing travel possibilities.
