Pershing 70 Yacht Review

Pershing 70 Yacht Review
The Pershing 70 is a high speed, narrow-beamed, sleek machine. It moves with latent power and maintains supreme comfort at high speeds. Fun to drive, Pershing decided to test automatic trim systems to assist yacht captains in speed handling and fuel burn. With Italian-built Top System drives; the advertised maximum of 46 knots was hit, with the acceleration and handling expected from a Pershing without compromising comfort. This boat is perfect for a weeklong luxury cruise with the family.

Performance

A Pershing’s deep-V, 23-degree deadrise amidships sharpens to 17 degrees. The Pershing 64’s hull is a reference point for the 70, with it being 5 tons lighter, using just 150 horsepower less than the 70’s power and its running speed is two knots slower than the 70. V-10 MTUs are used on the Italian-built Top System drives. At the maximum speed of 46 knots, the boat handles itself with grace.

Surface drivers can be a whole lot to handle for yacht captains and so Pershing decided to test automatic trim systems to assist the captains in speed handling and fuel burn. After various tests, the Top System software was selected as the best fit.

With this system, it’s easy to identify the speed needed for a standing start. The planing speed of the 70 which was 21.4 knots at 1550 rpm. When hard turns are performed, the outer drive is lowered and the inner drive is raised by the system software to create a balance in the water densities at which the props operate.

H3>Construction

Pershing 70’s are constructed using modern-day techniques and materials. The hull, bulkheads, and interior substrates are PVC-cored and laminated with vinylester resin via an infusion process. Fuel and other tanks are not made of aluminium, but are constructed from fiberglass. This fiberglass forms a double layer of glass which helps in case the hull is accidentally perforated; this double layer is made up of the tanks which are fitted closely at the bottom and other parts.

Accommodations

The hull of the 70 is slim and performance-oriented and gives a feel of a larger vessel. The headrooom is located below and is 6 feet 7 inches in the water as well as the VIP. The berths are large and full. The main deck is extravagantly glazed with a considerably large sunroof and bulkhead with a glass cockpit that performs a vanishing act in the downwards direction.

If you thought the three-cabin layout of the Pershing 70 was accommodating, you will definitely appreciate the extra space obtained with the two-cabin version which features a private, open-plan saloon opposite the galley, shower at the foot of the companionway, and roomy dayhead.
