Viking 75 Motor Yacht Review

Viking 75 Motor Yacht Review
Viking’s 75 motor yacht could be quite misleading. From some views, the 75 looks like a modern megayacht, curvaceous with large windows in darkened tear drop form, and a swept-back skylounge. From another perspective, the 75 comes with the full glory of everything Viking, straight from performance to strong engineering and the “WoW” factor consistent with Viking battlewagons.

Performance

Being at the wheel of the Viking 75 is tantamount to driving a big Viking sport fishing convertible. This boat performs well in the open Atlantic. In rough seas an average of 34.6 knots was measured; the cruising speed was at 29.9 knots when we used the optimal sea-keeper 26,000 gyrostabilizer and 20 percent tab.

The steering system is tiebar-less VIPER steering system which makes steering easy. The VIPEr steering system allows each rudder to operate independently. The optional CAT Three60 control system uses the 75s standard hydraulic thruster, a computer-linked joystick, and a couple of Twin Disc QuickShift transmissions help to maintain steady revs while barely disturbing surrounding waters.

Construction

Viking Yachts builds most the 75’s components in-house beginning with the hull, deck, electrical harnesses, powered coated aluminium air intakes to its modular fiberglass parts – this is done for both safety and convenience sake.
The shoebox-type hull to deck joint is covered thoroughly with fiberglass from the ship’s interior instead of simply bolting it. Two standard-issue 29-kW Onan Quiet Diesel generators are used, instead of one in the engine room. Robust, engine-driven crash pumps are used to drive the bilge pumping system. The fuel tanks are saddle-type and use electronic fuel level.

Accommodations

On the bottom deck, there are four large staterooms: the VIP forward, secondary VIP which has twin berths, the double guest room, and a full beam master. There is a fifth stateroom for crew members.

The main deck is spacious and there is a dinette, U-shaped galley, dayhead, and saloon. The enclosed bridge acts as a second saloon. The master has very large through-hull windows and the furniture reminds you of home but is custom designed for the Viking 75.
