To create a fast passage maker, Beneteau turned to a design team with deep experience in both racing and cruising: the French naval architects Berret/Racopeau Yacht Design, based in La Rochelle. Their design portfolio includes a number of 6o' to 117' custom bluewater cruisers, in the production cruiser category they drew the lines for the Beneteau 361, Beneteau 381 and the Dufour 50. Their racing boat experience runs the gamut from Mini-Transits to Open 50s and 60s. The 393 is available in either a 2 or 3 cabin version. The latter splits the aft cabin and moves the galley from port to starboard; there is a loss of some storage space. On both versions the settee is to port, in the 3 cabin version the galley replaces a starboard-side array of cherry finished cabinets and drawer storage. The raised deck above the salon gives plenty of headroom and great views from down below. There are 7 opening hatches and 7 or 8 opening portholes depending on the version.
Two rig options are available: furling and classic. The furling setup includes both a ProFurl roller furling jib and in-mast furling by US Spars. The mast section is identical in both versions, US Spars adds a furling unit within the same section. Sails are from Neil Pryde and are their Series 2000 in dacron. There are no battens in the mainsail on the furling version. The 140% roller furling genoa has an anti-UV strip and featured the Neil Pryde multi-track foam luff system.
