ACCOMMODATIONS

Kairos has a fully finished cruising interior with three staterooms and two heads.  The companionway is well protected by the Iverson Designs dodger.  A low, hinged threshold with locking washboards transitions to a functional companionway ladder with four curved steps topped with nonslip surface.  Burnished aluminum vertical grab rails are located on each side of the ladder.

The woodwork is in pear-tree colored Mukali wood with fiddles and mouldings in solid wood.  Finish is satin with gloss on solid wood trim pieces.  The floorboards are made of varnished hydropont (marine quality) with a thin black line.  The overhead is white fiberglass with wood accent strips.  Overhead lighting are all LED and wall-switched.  Upholstery in the staterooms is a beige Ecru fabric with blue accent spots.  The salon and nav station are upholstered with white undyed leather.  All overhead hatches and cabin side ports are fitted with Oceanaire blinds.

Storage is abundant in lockers, cabinets, and bins.  Large lockers are fitted with ventilation strips.  Some of these lockers are removable to lighten the boat in ?race mode.?  Locker catches are spring loaded.  Doors are locked with lever spring locks and head doors have privacy locks.  Headroom measures a functional 6' 5".

Starting forward is the owner's head which is constructed of white gel-coat fiberglass; bright and easy to dry and clean. Select trim and cabinet doors are in wood.  Forward behind a hinged white door is a storage locker located beneath the bow anchor locker.  A fold down white seat covers the electric flush head.  A vanity with integral sink is to starboard.  A pull out sink/shower nozzle, single lever faucet and mirrored door medicine cabinet are fitted at this vanity.  An overhead hatch provides light and ventilation.

Moving aft through a locking privacy door, one enters the master stateroom.  A Pullman style berth to starboard measures 6' 10" long by 4' 4?"aft and 2' 8" wide forward.  The mattress is 6" thick and topped with a 5" thick foam topper.  A lee cloth is fitted inboard for offshore sailing.  Two chrome-finish reading lights are mounted on the aft bulkhead.  A nicely curved hull side bookshelf with tall fiddle runs along the hull side outboard of the berth.  Storage under the berth includes top opening bins, two pull-out drawers, and two hinged door lockers.  A three foot-long, upholstered dressing seat is to port and forward.  A storage cabinet with open top is forward of the seat.  A tall locker with shelves and hanging locker is aft.  A 7" wide bookshelf and reading light are outboard of the seat.  Two overhead hatches, and two opening cabin side ports provide plenty of light and ventilation.  A mirror is mounted on the privacy door leading aft to the salon.

The salon area is central and open to the nav station, galley, and companionway.  Due to the light wood finish, there is a sense of space and light even with the low profile coach roof.   The entire port side is dedicated to storage and entertainment.  A Toshiba TV is up high on an 8" wide hull side shelf.  Double door cabinets are over a 43" x 20" wide open counter.  Three pull out drawers and three hinged-door cabinets are below the counter.  The oval-shaped dinette features a long by and wide table.  The table lowers and a cushion allows for sleeping our lounging.  A removable centerline bench seat will seat two.  Hinged-door storage cabinets with an open shelf above are located along the hull side, beneath the deck edge.   A bottle locker is aft and outboard.  Four opening ports and two overhead hatches provide light and ventilation.

The forward facing navigation station is to port.  A hinged top-opening chart drawer is  deep and an additional top-opening nav tool bin is outboard.  An aft-facing, open storage locker is beneath the chart table.  A storage bin is below the hinged navigator's seat.  Aft of the nav seat an array of front opening deep storage bins to organize signal flags, and other gear.  Outboard, below the deck edge, are two panels.  The aft, hinged, panel houses the switch/breaker/gage panel, stereo, and VHF radio.  The forward/angled panel has a flush mounted chartplotter, chronometer, 12V outlet, and nav-data USB plug.  The overhead spot light has both red and white lights.

The L-shaped galley is to starboard of the companionway ladder; well situated between dinette and cockpit.  Rounded high fiddles surround the galley counter to keep items in place offshore.  The countertop is white Formica with double stainless steel sinks. A single lever faucet and dedicated salt water foot pump nozzles serve both sinks.  A top-opening 3.9 cubic foot fridge is outboard of the sink.  Beneath the sink are two locker"s including one with a swing-out trash bin.  An Eno two burner, gimballed stove/oven with stainless steel safety bar is aft and outboard.  Pot/pan storage is beneath the stove alcove in a fold-down hinged door cabinet.  Top opening bottle storage is aft the stove.  Outboard beneath the deck edge are two hinged door cabinets for storing dishes and cooking supplies.  An open shelf is above these two cabinets.  An opening cabin-side port is well situated above the stove for ventilating the galley

The aft head is to port of the companionway and constructed of white gelcoated fiberglass for easy cleaning.  A locking privacy door closes this space.   A forward-facing electric flush head is aft and beneath a hinged white seat.  Outboard, below the deck edge is a hanging bar, ideal for storing wet foul weather gear for the off watch crew members.  Forward is a vanity with integral sink, pull out shower nozzle, and burned metal grab bars.  A mirrored door medicine/storage cabinet is above the sink.   An opening port and overhead spot light serve this head.

The aft staterooms are mirror images of each other and entered through privacy doors on either side and aft of the companionway.  Hanging lockers with open shelf tops are forward and outboard.  The berths measure 6' 7" long by 4' wide and are fitted with split mattresses.  Two opening shelves are inboard of the berth, beneath the cockpit sole.  An overhead light, two reading lights, and two opening ports fit out each of these staterooms.

 HULL AND DECK

Kairos has a white gel-coat hull with polished black anti-fouling paint, thin over thick black boot stripes and a narrow black cove stripe.  Two well-styled narrow tinted fixed hull side ports are set into the cove stripe on each side.  The bow has a slight overhang to balance performance and sea keeping needs of this racer/cruiser.  The reverse transom features a functional scoop stern with teak and rubber overlay on the swim step.  A mid-height stainless steel step makes for easy access from the swim step to the cockpit.   A fold down stainless steel swim ladder can be lowered from the water for safety.

A single stainless steel bow roller serves double duty for anchoring and as an attachment point for the removable bow sprit.  A large, top opening, overboard draining anchor locker houses the anchor rode and some fenders and has an aft shelf where the electric anchor windlass is mounted, clearing the foredeck for racing.  A low teak toe rail runs along the deck edge.  Double uncoated wire rope lifelines run between bow pulpit and stern pushpits through 24" high stanchions.  Midship and stern boarding gates are fitted with snap hooks.

The deck, cockpit and cabin are easy to maintain white gel-coat with non-slip surfaces molded in place: effective and easy to clean.  Kairos deck and cabin top are clean and relatively uncluttered.  Long stainless steel grab rails are located on each side of the cabin top just forward of the cockpit dodger.

The cockpit is well suited to both racing and cruising.  Low and wide coamings forward keep side deck water out yet are low and wide enough for sitting and stepping on.  These coamings are lowered outboard of the helm; an ideal seat for upwind steering.  Teak and rubber overlay the cockpit sole and seats.  A fore and aft stainless steel staple with foot bar divides the cockpit forward of the helm for safety.  A contoured 18" wide helm seat runs the full cockpit width aft of the helm.  A removable teak grate lifts to access the rudder post top for emergency steering.  The cockpit sole is angled aft of the helm for ergonomic steering positions when heeled.  A cockpit dodger, bimini, and removable side panels are fitted for cruising comfort.  The steering pedestal is low and properly angled as a foot rest for the mainsheet trimmer upwind.  Nav instruments and autopilot head are mounted outboard in the pedestal.  An overboard draining wheel well aft of the pedestal allows the large wheel to be mounted low enough relative to the cockpit or comfortable steering.

Cockpit storage accessed storage is quite large.  Space to store an offshore racing liferaft is found under the helm seat; accessible and safe from breaking waves.  Hinged hatches below the outboard helm seats access large, climb into quarter lockers where steering system, diesel heater, and storage space with hull side shelves is found.  Hinged top, sole level lockers are located on each side beneath cockpit seats forward of the helm.  Safety gear, running rigging, and cleaning gear are now located in these lockers. All lockers are hinged and fitted with positive closing hardware.
