Overview

The Bering 55 is part of the Expedition series of Bering’s motoryachts. She possesses more traditional exterior styling with her reverse raked pilothouse windows and sweeping bow sheer while offering either a traditional teak and holly interior or a more contemporary interior design featuring exotic woods, euro-design fabrics and furniture and contemporary fixtures throughout. Like all of Bering Yacht’s models she has been designed from the keel up to be a superb transoceanic yacht. She is perfectly capable of being handled by a crew of two given her modest size and features like bow and stern thrusters as well as a full walk-around deck. She is a capable and rugged long range passagemaker and given her large stores of fuel and water can easily travel over 3,000 nautical miles in-between resupply, granting access to any cruising destination you have in mind.

The 55’s main deck provides full walk around access, a real convenience when performing docking or mooring duties. Stepping inside from the cockpit you enter the salon which is adorned with rich woodwork throughout, hand finished varnish and your choice of flooring, be it wood or carpet. The corner settee and table are off to the starboard side with built in barrel chairs immediately aft. The entertainment center on the port side houses a pop-up flat screen, a nice touch that ensures an unobstructed view when not in use. Large but immensely strong saloon windows provide maximum views and natural lighting, maintaining a sense of openness while aboard.

The galley is located just a few steps up in the aft pilothouse. The absence of a bulkhead ensures the cook is not isolated from the action in the saloon yet provides a separate dedicated meal prep area. Your choice of professional grade appliances can be installed as well as near infinite choices of materials for countertops, backsplashes, and other surfaces and fixtures. A large residential refrigerator can be installed or if you prefer, multiple drawer-units of refrigeration/freezers can be chosen. Bering’s design team works with each customer individually ensuring your yacht is uniquely built just the way you want.

The lower deck staterooms can be configured in a number of ways thanks to the flexibility offered through the use of steel construction. The renderings and photographs illustrate several of the different layout options available. Should you wish to further customize the interior, say to maximize the sleeping space aboard, Bering can address those requirements with such features as stacked bunks and communal heads, or any combination therein. Bering is happy to entertain your input and will work hard to build the floor plan that is ideal for you.

Above deck, there’s plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the ocean views and sea breeze. On the main outside deck you can choose to lounge either aft in the fully covered cockpit or up forward of the Portuguese bridge on the built in settee bench seats that offer a truly magnificent experience while underway. Up above, the flybridge deck offers more great space to relax and enjoy the sights as well as providing a second steering station. The lower aft deck of the flybridge has plenty of space to locate one or more tenders in addition to a powered davit crane to make tender launching and recovery effortless.

Custom touches like built-in sinks, refrigeration and BBQ station can all be added as desired. Bering yachts, with their stunning interiors and beautifully finished hulls, are extremely capable and reliable ocean crossing vessels. Beyond using a time tested and proven hull design, all Bering yachts are built “heavy for size” which provides a particularly sea-kindly motion that very few if any recreational motor yachts are capable of delivering, at least without active stabilization. A carefully designed low center of gravity combined with the sheer mass of the vessel provides a reduction in roll moment and minimized pitching and pounding that so many find unpleasant. This “heavy for size” approach is well proven in the commercial marine market where vessel “weight” is really how one defines a vessel’s size as opposed to length. Note that the Bering 55 displaces almost 143,000 pounds at full load which is significantly more than her competitors!

While at sea, one’s peace of mind is of utmost importance, which is why in addition to the hull & structural design, Bering puts great emphasis on the reliability of all the ship’s systems. Many builders use “recreational” grade components on board their boats for obvious reasons; they are less expensive and their customer’s use profile simply doesn’t demand top level commercial quality components be installed. Bering feels that any boat that is marketed as being “ocean going” needs to have only the best most proven equipment and components on board. To this end, Bering specifies only commercially rated and internationally sourced equipment on board all of their yachts. This strict adherence to professional grade equipment ensures the most trouble free experience possible while out cruising, and in the rare case that you do experience a component failure, parts will be readily available regardless of your locale.
