TOPSIDES/HULL
Topsides, the Island Packet 38 features large unobstructed deck and cabin top surfaces. Safe and secure deck work is ensured with raised bulwarks, premium course diamond nonskid, full length cabin top hand rails, welded double bow and stern rails and double lifelines. The deck is trimmed with a wide teak cap rail and a stainless steel striker all around, with teak cockpit coamings and detail trim. All nonskid surfaces are molded in contrasting tan. The roomy cockpit features contoured cockpit seats with deep coaming backrests, a comfortable helmsman's seat, a cavernous locker to starboard, storage tray to port and rack and pinion geared wheel steering for precise feel and utmost reliability. Other details include a fresh water cockpit shower unit, protected engine control panel, folding swim ladder, and lifeline stern and side gates.
The hull is molded in one piece with extra strong triaxial glass, unified with an engineered molded interior grid structure. Deck laminate is cored with advanced Polycel, a tough microsphere and resin matrix that is heat, rot and delamination proof. PolyClad 3 is used on all exterior surfaces backed with a vinylester laminate in the hull, so impervious to osmotic blistering that Island Packet was the first U.S. builder to offer a ten year limited osmotic blister warranty. The deck is attached to the integrally molded hull flange with bolts, lock nuts, and urethane adhesive sealant. All deck hardware is thru-bolted with aluminum back up plates.
The moderate full keel design, unique to Island Packet, combines a contemporary performance hull form with a foil shaped full keel providing the benefits of spirited, powerful performance and seakeeping comparable to deeper fin keel designs while providing the ability to explore shallow coastal waters. The centerboard is particularly helpful when beating to windward.
LOLA has new topside paint in the original Island Packet beige color, enhancing the beauty of this yacht.
