The design of “WILVERLEY II” was based on that of her distinguished predecessor “WILVERLEY”, built in early 1970-s by the famous Van Lent Shipyard, now part of Feadship.
In 1983 the first “WILVERLEY”, while moored in an Adriatic port, was struck by a local ferryboat which had got out of control. Whilst “WILVERLEY”s hull was damaged beyond repair, her Gardner engines remained unscathed. The original owner, anxious to resume his Mediterranean cruising, commissioned Pieter Beeldsnijder to prepare plans for a new “WILVERLEY” and within less than a year another distinguished Dutch shipyard, Lowland Yachts, completed “WILVERLEY II”. The original Gardner engines were completely overhauled by the engine builders service representative in Holland and installed in the new yacht.
Upon her completion in the summer of 1984, “WILVERLEY II” was her builders’ much acclaimed exhibit at the Southampton Boat Show in September of that year. Afterwards “WILVERLEY II”, based in Antibes, was cruising regularly in the Eastern Mediterranean every summer, except in 1988 when she visited Holland for a minor “facelift” and then completed a successful Baltic cruise. In 1989 her first owner reluctantly decided to retire from yachting. The boat was then purchased by a yachtsman residing in Greece and became based at Athens, being used mainly in Greek waters. The new owner continued to apply the same high standard of maintenance the boat had enjoyed under the previous ownership.
“WILVERLEY II” has attracted much favourable comment as a good looking, purpose built traditional motor yacht, with a quality of finish seldom seen in the age of multiple production craft.
The design of “WILVERLEY II” followed that of a long line of successful Dutch built displacement motor yachts. Her designer, Pieter Beeldsnijder, responded to the original owner’s individual lay-out requirements and produced plans for a strong and sea kindly steel displacement hull with an attractive, easy to maintain, superstructure.
The yacht has a traditional teak interior offset by touches of lighter décor and concealed lightning.
