MACGREGOR - the legendary sailing yachts from California
MACGREGOR is a brand under which the sailing yachts were produced. The company was located in California, Costa Mesa.
MacGregor Yacht Corporation was established in the early 60s. Its owner, Roger McGregor, administered the shipyard until 2013 and then retired, and closed the company. For 50 years of its existence the company produced 36 000 yachts of all kinds.
The company was specialized in small sailboats: monohull yachts and catamarans up to 17 feet in length. However, the ТfamilyУ of MACGREGOR also included the large vessels - the 36-feet catamarans and 65-feet yachts.
It is interesting that the MACGREGOR shipyard was opened on the basis of the university, and the company used the advanced technology. Innovations allowed to produce the lightweight yachts that were good on the water. The high stability made these boats popular among the American sailors.
Among 36 thousand of yachts, manufactured by the company, about a hundred of them are luxurious large vessels. Some of these boats have become a part of history and the world of yachting.
With the retirement of the company's owner MACGREGOR ended its work, but its technology and principles were adopted by the heiress - Laura MacGregor Sharp who established the Yachts Tatoo shipyard.
