Overview
PROJECT PETRA is a contemporary world-roaming explorer yacht conceived by the Milan-based atelier Hot Lab and slated for construction at the respected Turkish yard RMK Marine. Hallmark attributes include a full‑displacement steel hull, an aluminum superstructure, and an ocean‑spanning cruising range. This is a fully engineered new-build, ready to enter production immediately with an anticipated 24‑month delivery timeline.
The vessel’s core architecture centers on a purposeful profile with a commanding bow engineered for bluewater passages, and an expansive aft deck that can be arranged in multiple modes for pool, helicopter operations, or tender and toy stowage. A 6 guest cabin arrangement is complemented by proper crew quarters and meticulously planned technical spaces, emphasizing efficiency, redundancy, and the autonomy one expects of a true global cruiser and expedition yacht.
PROJECT PETRA is presented in three distinct iterations to suit differing owner profiles and cruising agendas. These thoroughly resolved platforms address varied mission profiles and regulatory frameworks aligned with intended itineraries.
The first, the CORE variant, is the baseline configuration to Pleasure Class; the second, AURA, is built to Commercial Class; the third, INFINITE, is engineered to 1D Ice Class, extending capability for high‑latitude cruising.
Each model is priced commensurately with its classification, and each offers a curated menu of features including 6 & 7 cabin layouts, optional helicopter operations, an aft‑deck pool, and davits rated from 2–4 tonnes, giving every yacht the capability to carry on‑deck tenders from 6–10m and efficient deck flows.
The ambition is to welcome an owner for whom a truly bespoke package can be crafted, aligning the right model and options to their vision and enabling them to explore the world exactly as imagined.
PROJECT PETRA stands as a tough yet refined new-construction luxury superyacht, defined by timeless lines, pedigree naval engineering, and the signature elegance one anticipates from Hot Lab and RMK.
Detailed Description
Main machinery
Power comes from four Volvo Penta D13 diesel engines, each producing 735 kW at 2400 rpm, working through the Volvo IPS40 Professional integrated pod drive. Propulsion is delivered by two Volvo IPS40 pod units with forward-facing twin counter-rotating propellers, and for the INFINITE configuration an IPS + Hybrid (optional) package is available. Performance showcases this advanced setup: in CORE & AURA specifications the yacht attains a maximum of 16 knots with a comfortable 12-knot cruising speed, while the INFINITE – Hybrid (optional) configuration reaches a maximum of 15 knots and cruises at 10 knots. Endurance is equally compelling, offering an approximate range of 3,500 nautical miles, extended to approximately 4,000 nautical miles with the INFINITE – Hybrid (optional) specification.
Capacities (approximately)
Engineered for extended autonomy, her tankage is impressively specified: fuel reserves of 54,993 liters (14,529 gallons) support long-range cruising, while freshwater capacity of 12,997 liters (3,434 gallons) ensures onboard comfort. Maintenance is streamlined with dedicated tanks holding 999 liters (264 gallons) each for lube oil and dirty lube oil, and efficient waste management is provided by 4,996 liters (1,320 gallons) of grey water capacity and 2,997 liters (792 gallons) of black water capacity.
Navigation & communication equipment
Effortless command at sea begins with owner‑supplied Starlink satellite communications, while VHF radiotelephones operate within a GMDSS A1, A2, and A3 compliant system that also incorporates Navtex. An integrated communications system (TBC) complements a comprehensive navigation suite featuring GPS and chart plotter solutions from Furuno, Simrad, Sperry, or equivalent, with wind instruments seamlessly included as part of the integrated navigation package.
Auxiliary machinery/equipment & electrical system
Power generation is entrusted to two Onan or equivalent generators, each delivering between 80 and 100 ekW, supporting an electrical architecture compatible with a 400V/230V AC, 50 Hz shore connection. Maneuverability is assured by one electric tunnel bow thruster rated at 80 to 100 kW and the Volvo Penta EVC integrated pod steering with joystick and wing stations, working in concert with the IPS pod steering system. Comfort at anchor and underway is elevated by fully electric zero-speed fin stabilizers from Humphree, CMC, or equivalent. Environmental stewardship is addressed with Hamann, Epe, or equivalent sewage treatment and a DVZ or equivalent oily bilge separator, while freshwater autonomy is secured by Idromar, HP, Epe, or equivalent water makers. Critical pumping duties are handled by Gianneschi, CEM, Wilo, Azcue, or equivalent fire/bilge pumps, and fuel polishing is managed by Alfa Laval, GEA, or equivalent separators and filters. Onboard amenities are completed by Jets or equivalent WCs and a Marincold or equivalent HVAC system.
Domestic equipment
The main galley is appointed with appliances by Siemens, Electrolux, or equivalent, while the refrigeration suite comprises a cold room and a freezing room complemented by domestic refrigeration. The crew pantry is fitted as per GA with appliances by Siemens, Electrolux, or equivalent, and the guest pantry is likewise fitted as per GA with Siemens, Electrolux, or equivalent appliances. Laundry facilities include a main laundry equipped with Siemens, Electrolux, or equivalent machines, accompanied by a crew laundry to the same specification.
Other
The yacht’s exterior living spaces are enhanced with integrated, built‑in furniture meticulously crafted by the shipyard, while complementary loose furniture is provided by the owner to reflect personal style. A gym is included when indicated on the GA and is finished to a high-quality guest standard, delivering a refined onboard wellness experience. Exercise equipment is owner-supplied, enabling a tailored selection to match individual training preferences.
Tenders and watersports equipment
An owner-supplied suite of tenders and watersports gear is specified, featuring a main Capelli tender or equivalent complemented by a 4.10m service/rescue tender. For spirited days on the water, waverunners such as the Kawasaki STX160 or equivalent are also provided under owner supply. Scuba equipment is owner supply and not specified, and, in keeping with the program, all toys and tenders are owner supply.
Deck equipment
Engineered for effortless handling, the deck is outfitted with a Data Hidrolik anchor windlass for dependable power when mooring or weighing anchor, complemented by aft warping capstans from Data Hidrolik or equivalent to streamline stern maneuvers. The ground tackle features a robust local anchor paired with Evren/Yapas chain and miscellaneous fittings to ensure secure holding across varied seabeds. Tender operations are seamless thanks to a boat crane and davits by Opacmare, Besenzoni, or equivalent, supported by an Opacmare or equivalent transformer for smooth boarding and launching logistics. At the waterline, a stern swim platform with a beach club arrangement, configured as per the GA, invites effortless access and relaxed waterside living. Night passages are enhanced by a high-performance Francis searchlight or equivalent, providing precise illumination whenever required.
Security & safety equipment
Safety provisions include Viking Life equipment, or equivalent, delivered fully class and code compliant. Fire protection is ensured by class-compliant fixed and portable firefighting systems with fire detection. Critical functions are supervised by an advanced alarm and monitoring suite from Praxis, Bonning, Wartsila, or an equivalent system.
