Overview
MCP Yachts 106 LE
Three remarkable attributes define the stunning and sturdy vessels crafted by Brazilian manufacturer MCP Yachts: remarkable speed, minimal power consumption, and an impressive range for ocean voyages. These features may appear contradictory, but not for MCP, as its latest 106 LE (Limited Edition) superyacht, Mars, exemplifies this vision. Spanning 32.31 meters, this yacht boasts striking, contemporary lines that will attract those who favor unique designs, achieving a top speed of 25 knots while maintaining exceptional fuel efficiency and range during leisurely cruising.
MCP initiated this project by exploring the yacht market to understand the desires of owners, establishing several key criteria. "The first was to ensure the vessel was flooded with natural light, utilizing ample glass," explains Manoel Chaves, the owner of MCP. "Thanks to advanced technology, we achieved this despite the weight of glass." The goal was to provide panoramic views of the sea from any interior space. "We also prioritized a Portuguese bridge and a raised pilothouse, which shaped the yacht's design."
At first glance, Mars showcases innovative styling. The glazed bulwarks along the side decks harmonize with the floor-to-ceiling windows in the main saloon, offering unobstructed vistas. Further forward, where the yacht's form becomes more pronounced, the bulwark line transforms into a stylish feature that seamlessly integrates with the expansive windows, creating a distinctive yet cohesive appearance.
The owner of Mars played a pivotal role in the project. He visited the shipyard when the hull was nearly finished, specifically seeking an aluminum yacht, which he regards as a superior and efficient material. This choice led to the unique custom hull color of Mars, highlighting the metal's beauty. The aluminum construction also provides the advantage of a double bottom, accommodating black water and fuel oil tanks, strategically positioned to maintain a low center of gravity and ensure easy access.
MCP embraced the challenge of delivering Mars according to the owner's specifications. "He benefited from a shorter wait time for the final product [approximately 12 months]," notes Chaves. "He customized Mars's interior based on his extensive charter experiences worldwide." His requests ranged from simple closet handles to the complete decor of the five suites (the master suite located forward on the main deck and four guest suites on the lower deck).
The master suite's decor and layout reflect the preferences of the owner and his wife, inspired by their experiences on other superyachts. Upon entering, there is a study equipped with two computers (as the owner works onboard) and a television. The suite features a spacious walk-in wardrobe, a cozy seating area, and his-and-hers bathrooms at the front, complete with a lavish rain shower at the center.
Initially, the galley was positioned on the port side of the main deck. However, since the owner primarily uses Mars for day cruises related to work, he requested a layout modification that involved rearranging both the crew and galley areas. Given that the crew does not stay for extended periods, there is no dedicated captain's suite.
A generously sized galley, capable of serving guests for two to three-day excursions, now occupies the space where the captain's cabin was originally located on the lower deck. Just ahead, the crew quarters provide essential amenities, featuring two cabins that can accommodate up to six individuals in triple bunks, along with a shared bathroom that includes a separate shower and toilet area. A pantry on the main deck, connecting to the galley below, facilitates service on Mars.
The layout is distinctly organized: crew and service activities are situated on the port side, while social interactions occur on the starboard side. Guests enjoy complete freedom and privacy throughout Mars, with access to a bar, wine cellar, dining area, and dayhead adjacent to the main saloon. A 75-inch television is discreetly integrated into a panel behind the dining table (Mars boasts a total of 14 screens, ensuring the owner remains updated on his business affairs). To starboard, a sliding door from the dining area leads to a drop-down balcony featuring a unique glazed floor for stunning sea views beneath one's feet.
Mars, compliant with the international standards set by classification society RINA, is fully automated, with all operations manageable via tablet or smartphone. A remote control allows navigation from any point on deck through a tablet, enabling the engagement and disengagement of engines, bow thruster, and stern thruster. It is even possible to start the yacht, maneuver it out to sea, and dock it again while controlling the remote from the shore.
The raised pilothouse provides an expansive view for navigation. A software system developed by the shipyard maintains navigation records and monitors all equipment functions (engines, generators, navigation lights, batteries, pumps, etc.) from a centralized location, ensuring seamless interaction with the entire yacht.
The flybridge serves as an entertainment hub, featuring a table for eight, a full bar with a barbecue, a large spa pool with a waterfall, water misters, and a spacious sunbed accommodating several guests. A generous beach club is also a highlight, complete with a full kitchen behind a sit-down bar, a dayhead, a shower, and a sauna for communal use, all accessible through a large automatic door at the stern.
Prioritizing comfort onboard was essential, and acoustics were carefully considered. To minimize noise below the waterline, the engine room is thoroughly sound-insulated.
Powered by two 1,825hp Caterpillar C32 Acert V12 engines, Mars boasts an impressive cruising range of 4,000 nautical miles at 10.5 knots. At this cruising speed, total fuel consumption is 87 liters per hour, showcasing its efficiency. Conversely, it can also achieve a swift cruising speed of 20 knots when needed.
