Overview

The Alerion Express 33 is the ideal compact daysailer, blending a contemporary, performance hull with a graceful, heritage profile above the waterline. Notable amenities include a roomy cockpit shaped for relaxation with tall backrests and pedestal steering; dual electric winches that let you trim every line without leaving the wheel; a private forward cabin with head; and an efficient galley for short cruises. With a lively, precise helm, superb stability, a powerful rig, and a self-tacking jib, the Alerion 33 is pure sailing pleasure.

GALLUP underwent a comprehensive upgrade in 2019, receiving in-boom furling (a coveted rarity), a new mainsail, fresh hull paint, updated electronics, a dodger, new portlights and more, totaling over $110,000. Since then she’s had only light summer use and has been stored indoors, heated, each off-season. Available now for the discerning skipper seeking a luxury sailboat that blends daysailer ease with racer-cruiser performance—an elegant performance cruiser and coastal cruiser for weekend escapes and spirited passages.

Detailed Description

Introduction

The Alerion Express 33 is the quintessential pocket daysailer, marrying a modern, sporty hull with a timeless, classic sheer above the waterline. Highlights abound: a generously sized cockpit sculpted for comfort with high backrests and pedestal steering; two electric winches that let you command every halyard, sheet, reef and traveler line without ever leaving the helm; a private forward cabin and head; and an efficient cruising galley. Her responsive helm, exceptional stability, powerful sail plan and self‑tacking jib make the Alerion 33 an unalloyed joy to sail. GALLUP was treated in 2019 to an extensive suite of upgrades, including rare and coveted in‑boom furling, a new mainsail, fresh hull paint, updated electronics, a new dodger, new portlights and more—an investment exceeding $110,000. Since then, she has seen only light summer use with heated indoor storage every year. She is available now for the discerning sailor who insists on performance, quality detailing and undeniable good looks for the next adventure under sail.

Hull and deck structure

The hull is an infusion‑molded SCRIMP laminate in GRP with biaxial and unidirectional E‑glass reinforcement, an end‑grain balsa core and a vinylester resin gelcoat reinforcing layer, while the deck is likewise resin‑infused (SCRIMP) GRP with biaxial reinforcement and end‑grain balsa core, finished in white gelcoat with molded beige nonskid. Structural elements including keel floors, the keel sump, engine bed, mast step and longitudinal stringers are integrally molded with the hull during the SCRIMP process, and the flange‑type deck‑to‑hull joint is bonded with ABS‑approved Plexus MA550 adhesive. A fin keel with an integral lead bulb delivers a low center of gravity and is bolted to the molded keel sump with 1" diameter 304‑grade stainless steel bolts. Marine‑grade plywood structural bulkheads are fully bonded to hull and deck, the stainless steel headstay tang is integral with the stemhead fitting, and the stainless steel main chainplates are through‑bolted to the interior structure. Steering confidence is assured by a stainless steel rudder shaft mated to a composite, balanced elliptical rudder running in low‑maintenance self‑aligning bearings.

Deck and cockpit details

On deck, two Lewmar deck hatches illuminate the forward cabin and head, complemented by four stainless steel oval portlights and a custom stainless steel stemhead fitting. A full‑length varnished teak toe rail runs the rail, with varnished teak handrails, nosing, cockpit coamings and trim enriching the classic aesthetic. Mooring hardware includes four 10" stainless steel cleats and two 8" stainless steel midship springline cleats. Access and stowage are excellent via a companionway sliding hatch with seahood and washboards, molded port and starboard cockpit hatches and an aft lazarette hatch, all over a handsome teak cockpit sole. At the helm, two Harken 46 two‑speed electric winches with multiple jammers centralize every sailing function; all halyards, sheets, reefing lines and traveler controls are led below deck to these helm winches, with dedicated rope storage cubbies beneath each to keep the cockpit impeccably tidy. A Harken 6:1 mainsheet traveler track with helm‑side controls, Edson pedestal steering with a 34" stainless steel wheel rimmed in varnished teak, and a binnacle‑mounted Ritchie compass complete the command center. The self‑draining cockpit has port and starboard scuppers, full‑length seating with cushions, and a removable varnished teak cockpit table, while a beige dodger with a roll‑up front adds shelter. Deck fills serve the fuel and water tanks, and a dedicated deck plate facilitates holding tank pump‑out.

Mast, rigging and sails

Performance is driven by a Hall Spars double‑spreader carbon mast paired with a Forespar Leisure Furl mainsail boom system (2019), both finished in “Moondust” Awlgrip. A Hoyt jib boom by Hall Spars and a Harken jib furler make headsail handling effortless, while Navtec continuous Nitronic 50 rod rigging, plus steaming and masthead anchor lights, round out a robust, seamanlike rig. A Forespar Quik Vang boom vang in matching Moondust finish adds precise leech control. The sail wardrobe includes a North NorDac full‑batten furling mainsail (2019) and a North Norlam jib.

Interior

Warmth and craftsmanship define the interior decor: removable plywood/vinyl overhead panels trimmed in teak, teak hull ceilings in the main cabin, and Formica‑faced plywood bulkheads with teak trim harmonize with Formica locker interiors, bunk tops and shelves. Laminated teak door frames support solid teak doors with plywood panels, all set over a varnished teak‑and‑holly cabin sole. Cushions complete the V‑berth, settees and backrests for inviting comfort. Forward, the cabin features a V‑berth with storage beneath, a deck hatch, 4" laminated foam cushions, an overhead light and a clean vinyl headliner. The main cabin offers full‑length settees to port and starboard with outboard shelving, an electrical panel at the port settee, and teak bi‑fold doors opening into the forward cabin. The galley is arranged with outboard storage lockers, an Origo alcohol stove, an Isotherm DI 40 DC top‑loading refrigerator, durable Formica countertops and a stainless steel sink. The head compartment is formed in a white molded GRP pan and fitted with a Raritan PHII marine toilet with Y‑valve and a drop‑down teak seat cover, a stainless steel sink, outboard storage lockers, a locker beneath the vanity, a mirror and a deck hatch.

Electrical

A 12‑volt DC system designed to ABYC standards underpins onboard reliability. All wiring is tinned copper to inhibit corrosion and coded for easy identification, feeding a DC master panel with an analog meter and magnetic circuit breakers. Power management includes a battery switch, two 4D gel cell batteries and a battery charger, with a 110‑volt shore‑power inlet and a 30‑amp shore cord for dockside service. Illumination is thoughtful, with four halogen reading lights and overhead lighting in both galley and head. Navigation lights include running lights mounted at the stemhead and a stern light on the aft deck. Electronics feature a Garmin 9" chartplotter (2019), a Garmin autopilot (2019) and Tick Tack sailing instruments.

Mechanical

Propulsion comes from a 20 HP Yanmar 3YM20C with sail drive and a waterlock muffler turning a 2‑blade folding propeller. The engine is mounted on a GRP engine bed with a GRP oil pan, and control is via a single‑lever engine control with a neutral safety switch. Tankage is generous and practical, with an 18 US Gallon polypropylene fuel tank, a 16 US Gallon PVC freshwater tank and an 11 US Gallon PVC holding tank.

Additional

Thoughtful cruising inventory includes a Fortress anchor complete with rode and chain, five life jackets, two Harken winch handles, and a 48" teak ensign staff. A cockpit cover protects the seating at rest, while three fenders and docklines keep her secure alongside. Documentation includes the owner’s manual and equipment manuals for builder‑installed systems, pumps, winches and more.

Exclusions

The owner’s personal effects are excluded from the sale.
