Overview

SAMSARA is a 30‑metre, RINA‑classed expedition motor yacht and ocean‑going superyacht carrying the unrestricted notation Any Ocean. Conceived to MCA/Lloyd’s Register 100A1 by acclaimed naval architect Jon Overing, this blue‑water explorer was launched in 2019 in Fort Lauderdale, purpose‑built for serious passage‑making without compromising elegance.

Crafted for those who savor life’s finer pleasures, SAMSARA blends refined comfort with capable performance. Her voluminous living spaces, expansive exterior decks and a thorough inventory of watersports gear make her the consummate luxury explorer yacht for cruising coastal playgrounds and remote horizons alike, delivering poise and pleasure wherever she roams.

Engineered to meet adverse weather with assurance, she is notably efficient, stable and secure thanks to a true full‑displacement platform—slipping through the sea rather than riding over it—precise hydrodynamics, a round‑bilge hull, LR‑grade steel plating (8–16 mm), zero‑speed stabilizers and a lightweight marine‑grade aluminium superstructure that contributes to comfort, economy and range.

London’s Kirschtein Interior Designs curated a liveaboard atmosphere in classic North American cherry, softened by calm, neutral textiles for timeless appeal. Accommodation includes four ensuite staterooms for eight guests, while up to five crew are comfortably arranged in forward quarters with two heads, plus an aft engineer’s cabin with private ensuite, ensuring discreet, professional service on extended voyages.

Meticulously developed by Overing Yacht for effortless long‑range exploration—validated through tank testing to refine hull hydrodynamics—her exceptionally generous fuel, water and lube‑oil capacities deliver authentic expedition range. Fresh from a return to Fort Lauderdale from the Mediterranean, SAMSARA has logged 38,000+ nautical miles from Glacier Bay, Alaska to Istanbul, Turkey, called at more than 125 ports across 25 countries, and transited both the Panama and Corinth canals twice, underscoring her pedigree as a true long‑range explorer motor yacht.

Detailed Description

Technical details

Built in 2017, Dauntless marries robust expedition pedigree with refined design, drawing on the naval architecture of Jon Overing, an exterior by Overing Yacht Design, and interiors by Kirshstein Yacht Design. Her steel displacement hull with a bulbous bow is complemented by an aluminum superstructure and teak and steel decks, delivering strength, efficiency, and timeless appeal. Measuring 100.5 ft/30.63 m in length with a 25 ft/7.62 m beam and a 7.74 ft/2.36 m maximum draft, she presents a gross tonnage of 224, flies the Marshall Islands flag, and carries RINA classification.

Performance is confident and economical, with a cruising speed of 10 knots and a maximum speed of 14 knots, yielding a range of 4,450 nautical miles at cruise and 2,048 nautical miles at maximum speed. Power comes from two Caterpillar 3406e 2003 600 hp engines, showing engine hours of 4,959 to port and 4,971 to starboard, supported by two Kilopak/John Deere 45 kW at 1800 rpm generators with generator hours of 7,582 to port and 8,908 to starboard. Autonomy is assured by a fuel capacity of 9,510 gallons/36,000 liters, a water capacity of 3,000 gallons/12,000 liters, and a holding tank of 1,400 gallons/5,600 liters, with service fluids accommodated by 100 gallons/400 liters of fresh oil and 100 gallons/400 liters of dirty oil.

AC systems

Engineered for dependable performance, the AC system is configured for 120/208VAC, 3-phase, 4-wire, 60 Hz service with a grounded neutral. Power is delivered from three sources: two Kilopak diesel gensets rated 45 kW each and one Atlas ShorPower frequency converter rated 50 kva, ensuring seamless, flexible operation under both generator and conditioned shore supply.

Generators

Two Kilopak 45 kW three-phase generators, each in a sound shield and operating at 1,800 rpm, provide dependable onboard power under the precise regulation of a Woodward generator governor. Starting duties are handled by four 195 Ah/12V batteries maintained by a Charles 24V/60A charger, while fuel delivery is protected by a Racor 500MA filter positioned between the day tank and the generators. Exhaust tone and discharge are refined by two Centek wet exhaust silencers and two water/gas separator units.

Shore power

Dockside connection is effortless with two shore-power locations to port and starboard, each equipped with two 125-amp inlets to ensure ample capacity and flexibility at any berth. An Atlas Energy Systems ShorPower frequency and power converter is installed between the inlets and the main panel, accepting any frequency, any voltage, in single- or three-phase, and providing 120/208VAC, three-phase, 60 Hz power directly to the main panel.

Main AC switchboard

The main AC switchboard is centered on an Atlas TecPower ASeries, delivering dependable, yacht-grade power distribution with refined control and robust protection for onboard systems, ensuring clean, stable electricity and seamless operation both at sea and in port.

Branch AC circuits

Six branch AC distribution panels are strategically located throughout the vessel, each supplied from the main panel by a dedicated main distribution breaker to ensure disciplined, reliable power delivery. Each of these six AC distribution panels is equipped with a voltage transformer, providing precise regulation and consistent performance across all onboard systems.

DC systems

Engineered around a 24VDC architecture with a grounded negative, the yacht’s direct current network delivers dependable power where it matters most. Three 24VDC distribution boxes are strategically positioned—one in the engine room to support the generator paralleling function, one in the pilothouse, and one in the aft deck cabinet—with the latter two equipped with chargers to keep critical circuits at the ready. Power reserves are equally robust, with eight starting batteries serving the engines and generators and eight dedicated batteries for household usage, ensuring steady, quiet energy throughout the vessel.

Air conditioning

Each unit is the Clion Marine CH-IN 87.0, item number 120625, with a maximum cooling capacity of 95,000 BTU and a nominal cooling capacity of 87,000 BTU, complemented by a heating capacity of 89,700 BTU. Supply voltage is 400X, three phase, 50 or 60 Hz, and the system can run on both, with maximum current consumption of 13.5. With two units installed, overall cooling and heating capacity as well as current consumption are twice as much.

Engine & mechanical

Power comes from two Caterpillar 3406E engines, each delivering 600 bhp at 2,100 rpm with a C-rating, flawlessly matched to two Twin Disc MG5114-DC 4.591:1 gearboxes featuring FastShift and Vulcan coupling for smooth, responsive propulsion. Fuel management is fortified by two Racor 1000MA dual fuel filters positioned between the day tank and the main engines, while exhaust quieting and separation are handled by two Centek Combo fiberglass 8" wet-type silencer/gas separators. Reliable starts are ensured by four 195 Ah/12V batteries dedicated to main engine ignition, supported by one Charles 24V/60A charger to keep the system at the ready.

Command is intuitive and comprehensive, with engine control and full engine instrumentation featuring electrical gauges in the pilothouse, complementary engine controls on the flybridge, and a dedicated engine control box in the engine room for hands-on service access.

Engine room

Engine room ventilation is optimized with a Delta-T 21-inch 5HP intake fan paired to a Delta-T 19-inch 3HP exhaust fan, ensuring steady airflow and reliable thermal management. Safety is assured by a Seafire FM-200 160L/DN50 automatic fire extinguishing system, with alarm panels located in the pilothouse and crew lounge and manual controls positioned on the main deck, starboard side. Vibration mounts isolate the engines, gear boxes, and generators for smoother, quieter running, while the entire compartment is insulated with ceramic wool for sound and heat proofing and finished with a perforated aluminum fascia. An emergency cut-off remote control system serves the ventilation fans and oil pumps for rapid response when required.

Fuel consumption and range figures are provided for voyage planning; all speed and distance calculations are dependent on sea and wind conditions, and numbers are approximate. At a maximum speed of 13.8 knots (Max) and 2,100 RPM, fuel consumption is 222 liters/hr, yielding up to 160 hours of endurance and a range of 2,048 miles. At a trans-Atlantic speed of 11.5 knots (Trans-Atlantic) and 1,900 RPM, fuel consumption is 162 liters/hr, providing approximately 220 hours and a range of 2,530 miles. For longer passages at 10.0 knots (Trans-Pacific) and 1,450 RPM, fuel consumption is 80 liters/hr, extending endurance to about 445 hours and 4,450 miles of range. At an economical 8.5 knots (End of the Earth) and 1,250 RPM, fuel consumption drops to 50 liters/hr, delivering approximately 712 hours and a range of 6,052 miles.

Boat deck

The boat deck on SAMSARA is a signature space, spanning over fifty feet of clear, teak-covered deck and served by a large crane with an extended-reach feature. A weather-tight door with stairs leads down to the galley, while caulk locations are prepared for a nine-meter tender and four wave runners. Thoughtful storage abounds, with a toy rack for kayaks, paddleboards, and bike storage complemented by dedicated racks for five kayaks, six SUPs, four e-bikes, and miscellaneous sporting gear and toys. Heavy-duty handling is assured by a three-thousand-pound davit with a dedicated hydraulic pump, together with a plumbed and wired davit base of one thousand kilograms, and foundation support and wiring are pre-embedded for a second crane installation. The vessel has the stability to carry a larger tender than is presently on board, and practical amenities include a dive locker with wet storage, a dive compressor, a large cooking grill, and VSAT. After dark, large LED light bars encircle the boat deck and forward deck to bathe the yacht in light, with additional LED spotlights dedicated to illuminating the boat deck.

Tender

The yacht is equipped with a 2021 Zodiac 22-foot tender, delivering agile performance, dry and confident rides, and effortless shore transfers, all backed by the rugged construction and seaworthy poise for which Zodiac is renowned.
