Overview

‘Griffin’ is a 2013 80-foot Hatteras enclosed-flybridge motor yacht, a flybridge yacht from one of the most respected American yards and among the marque’s most sought-after models. Hatteras Yachts is celebrated for robust construction and dependable performance, and this luxury yacht upholds that pedigree. Her timeless profile is paired with a solid-fiberglass deep-V hull that delivers a quiet, confident ride in a range of conditions. Balanced proportions, purposeful detailing, and commanding stance give her superyacht poise, turning heads equally at the marina and when carving offshore as a capable bluewater cruising yacht.

On the main deck she presents an aft terrace suited to alfresco dining, a full-beam salon with generous space for hosting or unwinding, and a large, well-appointed galley. The expansive, climate-controlled enclosed bridge opens to the helm and forms a sumptuous sky lounge for relaxation or entertaining with panoramic views. Aft on this deck are open-air seating and an electric grill, plus the tender and hydraulic davit. Below, accommodations include a full-beam owner’s suite, a roomy forward VIP, a double guest cabin to port and a twin to starboard, all en suite, with the spacious engine room and crew quarters aft. This refined cruising motor yacht blends comfort, performance, and elegance in a true luxury flybridge yacht.

Detailed Description

Walkthrough

Boarding Griffin begins with the warmth of teak underfoot on the swim platform, where removable stainless hoop railings and a pair of pull‑up cleats make tender handling effortless. Centerline beneath the platform a stainless telescopic dive ladder deploys cleanly, while to port a flush compartment conceals a hot and cold freshwater hand shower. The center pantograph door leads directly into the crew quarters and on to the immaculate engine room. Teak‑clad steps, port and starboard, rise to the aft deck, or you may come aboard amidships via the custom molded side doors to port and starboard and the MarQuipt eight‑step boarding ladder, or forward through the galley’s pantograph doors.

The aft deck continues the teak theme with a molded lounge upholstered to measure, a handsome inlaid wood dining table on twin polished stainless pedestals, and three teak chairs for gracious alfresco meals. Overhead lighting, ceiling‑mounted accent speakers, and security cameras to port and starboard refine the atmosphere, while a flush‑mounted flat‑screen TV drops from the starboard ceiling to catch the game. A starboard fold‑down wing station eases docking. To port, teak steps with stainless rails ascend to the flybridge aft deck; beneath them, a door opens to the interior stair down to the crew area and engine room. A graceful sweep of curved stainless and glass, with an automatic sliding door, separates the aft deck from the salon.

Step inside and the salon welcomes with custom satin wood joinery and a ceiling panel that echoes its detail. To starboard, a crescent wet bar with a polished travertine countertop seats three, complete with icemaker, a dedicated refrigerator, and generous storage; a glass‑front cabinet in the corner artfully displays barware and spirits. Forward to starboard, twin TV cabinets conceal 50‑inch and 40‑inch Samsung flat screens on electric lifts that can run simultaneously for sports or market updates, while motorized shades temper the light. To port, a sofa with end units, an armchair, a coffee table concealing two leather storage ottomans, and a lounge chair with ottoman compose an inviting conversation area. Forward, an elegant wood dining table seats six in upholstered comfort, flanked by a port buffet and a custom forward cabinet fitted for flatware, glassware, and plates, with a wine cooler integrated within.

In the galley, a central island continues the satin wood and granite motif, with storage drawers aft and, forward, a refrigerator top drawer and freezer/icemaker bottom drawer. An L‑shaped dinette welcomes casual meals or a productive session on your laptop. Appliances are first quality: a Sub‑Zero stainless side‑by‑side refrigerator and freezer with icemaker, a range with electric cooktop, Sharp Carousel microwave/convection above, Whirlpool stainless Accubake oven, and a full‑size Whirlpool stainless dishwasher, all surrounded by abundant cabinet storage and a dedicated food pantry.

Step out through either pantograph side door and the foredeck unfolds with welded, polished stainless hoop rails guiding you forward to line lockers on both sides, generous sun pads with headrests, and a ground tackle suite comprising a Maxwell 4000 vertical capstan windlass, chain stopper and tube/roller, and a stainless plow anchor on a polished chute and roller, all riding on 400 feet of ½‑inch Grade 43 hot‑dipped galvanized chain. A custom stainless flagpole awaits the burgee of your choice.

Ascending from the galley, you enter the air‑conditioned enclosed flybridge. The helm, offset to port, presents two captain’s chairs and a full, thoughtfully arranged electronics suite, with a side chart table and drawer to port. Aft of the helm, a raised curved settee with a petite cocktail table offers commanding views, while to starboard a storage cabinet keeps the area tidy. The salon’s satin wood joinery carries through for the same warm, tailored ambiance. Further aft, a U‑shaped wet bar with granite countertop reveals a pop‑up 32‑inch Samsung TV, with a separate refrigerator, icemaker, and ample storage below; opposite, an L‑shaped sofa invites you to unwind over a favorite cocktail or show. An aft sliding glass and wood door opens to a molded lounge with cocktail table; to starboard a molded cabinet houses an electric grill; and all the way aft you’ll find the 15‑foot AB hard‑bottom inflatable tender and a MarQuipt 1500‑lb hydraulic davit, with steps to port descending to the aft deck.

Forward from the salon on the starboard side, before the lower accommodations, a beautifully appointed day head features satin wood cabinetry, a granite countertop, and mosaic‑tiled walls. Below, the full‑beam master stateroom aft is a study in symmetry: a centerline king with upholstered headboard, matching nightstands, dual twelve‑drawer dressers, triple opening portlights both port and starboard, and large cedar‑lined closets. His and her en suites flank the space, joined by a shared glass‑enclosed shower with a granite bench between. The entry door is offset to starboard, balanced by a large flat‑screen TV to port. All the way forward along the companionway, the VIP stateroom offers a raised centerline queen, matched hanging lockers, storage cabinets to each side, and an en suite with glass‑enclosed shower. To port, the guest stateroom presents a queen berth with overhead cabinets, twin nightstands, dresser storage, a cedar‑lined hanging locker, a single hull portlight, motorized blinds, and an en suite with a glass‑enclosed shower. Opposite, the starboard guest stateroom provides twin over/under berths, a storage cabinet and chest of drawers, and a private en suite. There is thoughtful storage beneath all stateroom berths, with a stacked washer and dryer in the companionway.

Aft, enter the crew and engine room domain via the swim platform pantograph door or the interior stair from the aft deck. Two crew cabins are positioned aft: a captain’s cabin with a full‑size bed and a crew cabin with twin berths, sharing an enclosed head and shower. The corridor aft holds a stacked washer and dryer, while forward lies the gleaming engine room—a showcase of Hatteras rigging quality and captain’s care that must be seen to be fully appreciated.

Quite simply, Griffin stands as the finest 80‑foot Hatteras on the market, thoughtfully upgraded, fastidiously maintained inside and out, and mechanically exacting on a strict schedule—an inspection will reward the eye.

Upgrades 2021-2025

In 2021, the yacht benefited from a series of reliability‑driven renewals: both AC raw‑water pumps numbers one and two were replaced, alongside Mach 5 freshwater pump number one and the starboard engine‑room blower. Transformer number two was renewed, a second watermaker was added (Aquamizer+ rated at 1800 GPD), and the davit received a new HPU—pump and motor—together with a new actuator and counter‑balance valve. All window caulking was meticulously re‑caulked, reefed and tipped for long‑term integrity.

In 2022, comfort and performance were elevated with new bow cushions and covers, fresh carpet throughout, and a new galley air handler. Both Caterpillar engine aftercooler cores, port and starboard, were replaced, the davit was updated with a new lift cylinder, cable and pulleys, and both Caterpillar Marine Power displays at the flybridge helm were renewed.

In 2023, navigation and machinery saw significant investment: two new Garmin 8617 chartplotters were installed along with a new Nobeltec chartplotter/PC/monitor suite. Port and starboard steering oil coolers were replaced, as were the membranes for watermaker number one. The main engines received their 3000‑hour service, including removal and cleaning of heat‑exchanger plates with new gaskets, new seawater pumps, new freshwater coolant pumps and coolant, new belts, and valve lash adjustment. The generators gained new heat exchangers with insulation boxes, new coolant pumps and thermometers, new raw‑water pumps with belts and valve adjustments. The tender received new tubes, and connectivity jumped forward with a new Starlink—antenna number one.

In 2024, redundancy and readiness continued: a second Starlink—antenna number two—came aboard; the davit was essentially renewed stem to stern with a new motor/pump, control box, cylinder, wire, and sheaves; new AC manifolds were fitted to simplify coil cleaning with one chiller running; the forward flybridge gained new window tint; all tender gauges and switches were replaced and a new Furuno GP‑1971F chartplotter/fish finder with transducer added; the swim platform’s stainless telescopic ladder was replaced; Mach 5 freshwater pump number two was installed with a two‑year warranty; AC blowers were renewed in the port guest stateroom and captain’s cabin; a Jabsco cooling pump for bow thruster/stabilizer hydraulic oil was replaced; all tender upholstery was renewed; four new 8D AGM batteries were fitted for engine room, generator, and house bank; all hoses to the steering oil coolers were replaced; new port and starboard ACR LED searchlights were installed; both VHF antennas and their coaxial cables were renewed to port and starboard; a new Furuno weather station came aboard; and a third Garmin GPS antenna was tied into the backbone to add redundancy.

In 2025, safety and finish took center stage: fire inspection was completed in January, new tint was applied in the galley and master, and the yacht received a professional polish and wax from waterline to masthead. The salon air handler at the bar on the starboard side was replaced. Below the waterline, a full bottom job included two coats of paint and PropSpeed on all running gear; the propellers were reconditioned to S‑class and polished, and Spur line cutters were refurbished. A comprehensive running‑gear analysis confirmed all within tolerance. Ground tackle was upgraded with 400 feet of ½‑inch Grade 43 hot‑dipped galvanized anchor chain. Five‑year service was performed on stabilizers and bow thruster. The salon bar was sanded, polished, and treated with additional anti‑etch protection. Finally, a new MarineNav ship’s computer monitor and a new Revere six‑man liferaft completed the program.

Swim Platform and Aft Cockpit

The teak‑clad swim platform is purpose‑built for action, secured by removable stainless hoop railings and equipped with two pull‑up stainless cleats for tender tie‑up. A center‑mounted, under‑platform stainless telescopic dive ladder deploys cleanly for effortless water access, while midway up the port steps a recessed hot/cold shower awaits a rinse. A central pantograph door opens directly to the crew quarters and engine room. Teak steps rise port and starboard to the teak‑covered aft deck, with stainless handrails guiding the way and stainless boarding gates at the top of each stair. Here, a molded aft lounge with custom upholstery faces a beautiful wood inlaid table on twin polished stainless pedestals, flanked by three teak chairs. Overhead lighting sets the tone, ceiling‑mounted accent lighting and speakers enrich the ambiance, and security cameras to port and starboard keep watch. To starboard, a ceiling‑flush flat‑screen TV drops down for on‑deck entertainment, and a fold‑down wing station to starboard eases close‑quarters handling. Portside teak steps with stainless rails lead up to the flybridge, beneath which a door provides interior access down to the crew spaces and engine room. Custom molded fiberglass side doors to port and starboard grant swift access to the MarQuipt eight‑step boarding ladder.

Salon and Dining Area

From the salon’s refined comfort, steps lead seamlessly to the side decks, where teak‑clad thresholds to port and starboard and powder‑coated rails over the windows guide you forward. Amidships, a gentle step down lands you at the galley’s port and starboard pantograph doors, secured by stainless hoop rails that continue all the way to the bow. Stainless gates before the galley doors provide safe access to the MarQuipt eight‑step boarding ladder, while line lockers forward of the doors to port and starboard keep deck craft neat. At the foredeck, generous sun pads with headrests beckon, and the ground tackle is all business: a Maxwell 4000 vertical capstan windlass feeds an anchor locker with 400 feet of ½‑inch Grade 43 hot‑dipped galvanized chain to a welded, polished stainless anchor chute and roller bearing a stainless plow anchor. A freshwater washdown outlet and a stainless flagpole for your personalized burgee complete this forward extension of the salon’s easy indoor‑outdoor flow.

Day Head

The day head is tastefully finished with a granite countertop over warm wood cabinetry, luxury vinyl plank flooring with wood baseboards, and a top‑mounted glass vessel sink set against mosaic‑tiled walls. A freshwater Headhunter toilet with integrated bidet completes this refined space.

Galley

The galley combines working elegance with robust equipment: granite countertops over satin wood cabinets frame a granite‑and‑wood island with storage drawers, a Jenn Air freezer/ice maker drawer and a dedicated refrigerator drawer. A Sub‑Zero stainless side‑by‑side refrigerator and freezer with icemaker anchors the cold storage, complemented by a Sharp Carousel microwave/convection, a Whirlpool stainless Accubake oven, and a full‑size Whirlpool stainless dishwasher. A KitchenAid four‑burner stovetop and dual stainless sinks make preparation effortless. Forward, the L‑shaped seating wraps a granite table on polished stainless pedestals, paired with two leather stools beneath a 32‑inch Samsung flat‑screen TV. A proper food pantry, port and starboard pantograph doors to the side decks, and luxury vinyl plank flooring throughout—with LVP‑clad stairs leading up to the flybridge—complete this highly functional heart of the yacht.

Enclosed Flybridge

The enclosed, air‑conditioned flybridge is a command lounge with a full helm offset to port, served by a side chart table and drawer, and two black‑upholstered Pompanette helm chairs. Aft of the chairs, a raised curved settee embraces a granite cocktail table on a polished stainless pedestal. The wet bar, faced in granite with a stainless sink and cabinetry below, conceals a pop‑up 32‑inch Samsung TV and houses both an icemaker and a refrigerator. Opposite, a curved sofa with an integrated cabinet/end table invites long passages in comfort. A glass and wood sliding door opens aft to continue the experience outside.

Flybridge Aft Deck

Aft on the flybridge, a custom molded starboard cabinet hosts a dual gas grill, with wing stations to port and starboard for pinpoint handling. The EPIRB is mounted on the aft bulkhead of the enclosed flybridge for instant access. To port, a deep freezer stands ready for extended cruising. A U‑shaped molded lounge with a molded table on a stainless pedestal welcomes open‑air gatherings, accompanied by two teak chairs. The deck carries a MarQuipt 1500‑lb davit and a 2013 15‑foot AB hard‑bottom inflatable powered by a 70 HP Yamaha outboard. A stainless ladder and an access hatch lead to the top of the enclosed flybridge, where long stainless handrails to port and starboard ensure secure footing. Stainless railings encircle the doorway to the steps down to the aft cockpit, and an aft stainless flagpole flies your colors with pride.

Accommodations

The lower companionway to the staterooms descends via a carpeted stair lit by tasteful accent lighting, with flush panel doors on door stops leading into each cabin. A cedar‑lined linen locker keeps essentials fresh, while a stacked Whirlpool washer and dryer support extended voyages. Plush carpet runs throughout.

The full‑beam master stateroom centers on a king‑size berth with upholstered headboard and cedar‑lined storage beneath, flanked by two nightstands each with three drawers and lamps. An off‑center 42‑inch Samsung flat‑screen rests in its own cabinet to port, balanced by matching double‑door cedar‑lined hanging closets with automatic lights to port and starboard, and triple opening portlights on both sides. Motorized window blinds and matching twelve‑drawer dressers to port and starboard enhance symmetry. Her head features a sink, cabinets, a make‑up counter and upholstered stool, while his head offers a sink with expanded cabinetry; between them, a glass‑enclosed shower with a granite bench unites the suite. Carpet is continuous underfoot.

The VIP stateroom forward offers a queen‑size berth with an upholstered headboard and cedar‑lined storage below, twin cedar‑lined hanging/storage closets with automatic lights, nightstands with overhead cabinets to port and starboard, and a Sony 32‑inch flat‑screen TV. A screened overhead hatch with privacy cover adds air and light, and the en suite includes a glass‑enclosed shower. Carpet continues throughout.

The port guest stateroom presents a queen berth with Mattress System 5, cedar‑lined storage beneath, an upholstered headboard and berth base, two nightstands each with triple drawers and lamps, overhead storage cabinets, a dresser to port, an opening portlight, motorized window blinds, a cedar‑lined hanging locker with auto light, and a Sony 32‑inch flat‑screen TV. The en suite features a glass‑enclosed shower, with carpet underfoot.

The starboard guest stateroom features twin over/under berths with HMC System 3 mattresses, upholstered berth bases, a storage cabinet and chest of drawers, and a Jensen 22‑inch flat‑screen TV. It is also en suite with a glass‑enclosed shower and fitted carpet.

Aft, the captain’s quarters provide a double‑size berth, cedar‑lined hanging closet, nightstand with lamp, a built‑in dresser with cabinet and drawers, and a corner cabinet with a Samsung 32‑inch flat‑screen TV, all carpeted for comfort. The crew cabin offers upper and lower berths with upholstered bases, HMC System 3 mattresses, a cedar‑lined hanging closet with auto light, a nightstand, and a Jensen 22‑inch flat‑screen TV, also carpeted. Between them, the crew companionway includes a shared head with a stall shower enclosure and LVP flooring, a stacked Whirlpool washer and dryer, a lazarette aft, steps to the pantograph door to the swim platform, interior stairs to the aft deck, a refrigerator and Cuisinart convection oven, a pantograph entry door to the engine room, and resilient LVP flooring.

Electronics and Navigation

At the helm, two Garmin 8617 touch‑screen GPS/chartplotters pair with a 6‑foot array Garmin radar, a Garmin GMI 20 wind display, and a Furuno RD‑33 for GPS, temperature, and depth. A MarineNav ship’s display monitor and a Nobeltec chartplotter/PC/monitor enhance situational awareness, while a Simrad AP28 autopilot and Caterpillar Marine Power displays keep control precise. Communications are served by two ICOM IC‑M604 VHF radios with two ICOM Command Mic stations. Connectivity comes via two Starlink Wi‑Fi systems, and entertainment rides on a TracVision HD7 KVH satellite TV system with US Digital HD receivers. Audio is handled by a Clarion CMD‑series stereo. Night operations benefit from two ACR LED spotlights and a Ritchie SS 2000 compass, with Bennett twin‑actuated trim tabs fine‑tuning the ride and a paired windshield wiper/washer keeping the view clear. ABT TRAC digital stabilizers and an ABT TRAC bow thruster complete a confident, steady ride, while an ACR EPIRB stands at the ready.

Deck Equipment

On the foredeck, a Maxwell 4000‑lb hydraulic windlass with deck‑mounted control switches manages an anchor locker loaded with 400 feet of ½‑inch Grade 43 hot‑dipped galvanized anchor chain, running to a welded and polished stainless‑steel anchor chute and roller cradling a 110‑lb stainless plow anchor. A MarQuipt 1500‑lb hydraulic davit and a MarQuipt eight‑step boarding ladder with four entry points streamline tender and boarding operations. Stainless‑steel boarding gates amidships to port and starboard further ease access. Cleating is comprehensive, with six polished stainless‑steel spring‑line cleats, and two bow plus two stern polished stainless‑steel cleats, while the swim platform carries pull‑up stainless dinghy cleats. Stainless deck plates serve fuel and water fills and waste pump‑out. Bow and stern polished stainless‑steel flag staffs fly your colors, and freshwater washdown outlets at both bow and swim platform keep the decks pristine. Rope‑locker storage to port and starboard forward organizes lines, and atop the flybridge hardtop a Revere six‑man life raft stands ready.

Engine Room/Mechanical/Electrical

Power comes from twin Caterpillar C‑32A 1600 HP inboard engines, supported by twin Onan 27.5 kW Electronic Quiet Diesel generators (approximately 6002 hours port and 6004 hours starboard) with shock mounts, sound enclosures, remote starts, seawater strainers, fuel/water separators, hour meters, and water‑lift mufflers. Climate control is robust with two CruiseAir chillers at 75,000 BTU each—six tons per unit—with titanium coils carrying lifetime warranties, aided by Dometic air purifiers on the AC system. Freshwater delivery is ensured by two Mach 5 220V pumps, while watermaking is handled by Aqua Whisper and Aquamizer+ systems rated at 1800 GPD. Fire protection includes portable Drychem extinguishers and a Sea Fire system.

Underway, ABT TRAC zero‑speed stabilizers with an integrated hydraulic digital 35 HP thruster/stabilizer system and 7.5‑square‑foot fins tame the sea, as deep propeller tunnels, Alloy 22 high‑strength propeller shafts, dripless shaft seals, and Nibral eight‑blade high‑performance propellers drive the yacht forward. Stainless‑steel rudders, manganese‑bronze struts, manganese‑bronze dripless rudder seals, and zincs on rudders and shafts complete a thoroughly engineered running train, further protected by Spur line cutters. Engine‑room blowers number two keep air moving, and generator exhaust with water separators, along with engine and generator exhausts exiting through hull sides near the transom, manage sound and flow.

Fuel management is precise with dual electric fuel‑transfer pumps with filtration and dry‑tank protection, triple fuel filters/water separators on each main engine, and 24V DC electric fuel‑priming pumps. Serviceability is enhanced by a 110V AC oil‑changing system for engines, generators, and gears with a patented Hatteras quick disconnect. Domestic systems include a holding tank with sewage pump and overboard discharge, dockside water inlets with pressure‑regulating valve, automatic dockside tank fill, and Hatteras quick disconnect. Bilge and sump duties are handled by 24V DC pumps with heavy‑duty float switches and protective guards.

Through‑hulls are secured with bronze chrome ball valves through‑bolted in fiberglass on all underwater fittings, with comprehensive electrical bonding throughout. Freshwater pressure comes from a 230V AC pump with pressure tanks and a central charcoal filter with back‑flush capability. Hot water is supplied by heaters of 30 gallons, 20 gallons midship, and 6 gallons aft for crew. Ship’s power is backed by 8D AGM batteries—two for the port engine and generator and two for the starboard engine, generator, and house bank—charged by a Mastervolt charger, with an automatic battery‑paralleling system switched at the helm. Shore power arrives via two 100‑amp transformers connected to retractable shore cords, with a wireless remote for the Cablemaster. A central vacuum system, navigation lights, and ground‑fault protection on AC receptacles and lighting circuits round out a disciplined, service‑forward engine room.
