History and Overview

Lizz is a Fishers Island version of the 12-1/2’, a unique adaptation developed when the residents of Fishers Island, NY, approached Herreshoff to modify the classic 12-1/2 to better suit the waters of Long Island Sound. This resulted in wider side decks, an elevated aft deck, and a tiller that elegantly extends over the top of the transom. Over the past three winters, Lizz has been meticulously cared for by East Passage Boatwrights in Bristol, RI, with numerous upgrades and minor restorations ensuring she continues to look and sail as beautifully as she did when first launched.

In the spring of 2022, Lizz underwent a significant transformation when her Marconi rig was replaced with a more traditional gaff rig. New spars were sourced from Doughdish on Cape Cod, and she was equipped with new stainless steel standing rigging and three-strand Vintage running rigging. To complement these changes, Lizz received a new suit of Harding Sails, including a Main, Jib, and Spinnaker.

During the winter of 2023, Lizz returned to East Passage for essential hull work. All topside and bottom paint were meticulously removed, and splines were expertly glued into all the plank seams. This process not only stabilizes the hull, preventing the hull paint from cracking due to seasonal shrinking and swelling, but also ensures the hull remains watertight, eliminating the need for the plank seams to swell upon first launch. The hull was then carefully faired, primed, and painted to perfection.

Lizz comes with a galvanized Triade float on/off trailer, making it easy to launch and haul the boat yourself. Additionally, she is equipped with a transom-hung removable Torqeedo electric motor, enhancing her versatility. Lizz is a remarkable boat, ready to set sail with her new owner.
