Overview

87' Johnson 2003 — M/Y KAYA

M/Y KAYA is a meticulously cared-for 87-foot Johnson luxury motor yacht based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Blending generous interior volume with enduring elegance and confident performance, KAYA stands out as an ideal flybridge cruising yacht and premium motoryacht for sophisticated voyages and effortless entertaining.

Detailed Description

Overview

M/Y KAYA — 87’ Johnson, 2003 — is a beautifully maintained motor yacht where elegant design meets confident, long‑range performance. A generous aft deck with wraparound seating and a large dining table invites effortless entertaining, while the flybridge, complete with a wet bar, dining area, and an expansive sunpad, becomes the perfect refuge for relaxation whether underway or at anchor. Inside, the main salon is wrapped in rich high‑gloss cherry, offering a walk‑up bar, abundant seating, and a formal dining area for eight, and the fully equipped galley with premium Sub‑Zero, Bosch, Siemens, and GEA appliances supports extended cruising in absolute comfort. Below deck, KAYA accommodates eight guests in four staterooms: a full‑beam master with a king berth and his‑and‑hers ensuite, a VIP king, a double guest stateroom, and a twin guest cabin, each with a private bath, while the aft crew quarters comfortably house up to four, including a captain’s cabin. She is the only 87’ Johnson on the market with a raised pilothouse and true aft crew quarters, delivering a rare blend of practicality and luxury.

Features

KAYA’s specification focuses on generous volume, blue‑water poise, and everyday usability: a spacious skylounge flows from an enclosed pilothouse, the full‑beam master anchors the accommodations, and purpose‑designed aft crew quarters preserve privacy for all. An on‑deck primary stateroom underscores comfort at sea, upgraded electronics future‑proof navigation and onboard entertainment, and teak walkarounds with ample storage keep the yacht practical and safe underfoot. With a 23.6 ft beam and an enclosed pilothouse, she delivers commanding presence, stability, and serene passage‑making.

Walkthrough

Boarding KAYA is effortless from a floating dock via the fixed swim platform, or from a fixed dock through four hinged boarding doors served by a Marquipt Sea Stair that lands you on the aft or side decks. The covered aft deck welcomes with a large U‑shaped dining settee complemented by four loose chairs and opens to broad, safe walkaround side decks, while easy stairs rise to the flybridge. Centered electric doors reveal a generous salon with port and starboard couches, coffee tables, built‑in cabinetry, and a tasteful room divider that subtly defines the formal eight‑place dining area. Forward to port lies the enclosed galley with its own exterior access and a pocket door from the dining area; moving forward to starboard you’ll find the yacht’s inboard day head, an outboard side‑deck entry door, steps up to the pilothouse, steps down to the accommodations, and at the bow the beautiful on‑deck master suite, bathed in light, with a spacious lower‑level bath featuring his‑and‑hers heads and a dual‑access shower between. Returning to the main starboard companionway, nine graceful curved steps descend to the lower foyer, where a large forward VIP with a roomy head is joined aft by an ensuite double‑berth cabin to starboard and an ensuite single lower‑berth cabin to port. The flybridge is reached from either the pilothouse or the aft deck, and about 60% of its area rests under the hardtop; the helm and bar sit to port, with forward seating and a dining table to starboard, while aft the former boat deck now provides a superb sunning area or space for a Fly Shade now that the tender is stowed below. The crew area, accessed through a portside door, includes a shared galley and dinette, a captain’s double with private head to port, and a bunk room with private head to starboard; aft, a pantograph door opens to the swim platform, flanked by port and starboard walk‑in lockers for storage and auxiliary equipment.

Salon

The salon is finished throughout in high‑gloss cherry joinery and cabinetry and arranged for gracious entertaining with a leather sofa to port, two leather loveseats forward and to starboard, two upholstered chairs, and an upholstered ottoman that doubles as a table. A walk‑up bar with a granite top, an undercounter refrigerator, and dedicated glass and bottle stowage anchors the social hub, while the entertainment center integrates a Sony Bravia 42" TV, Denon surround sound, an Onkyo receiver, and a built‑in DirecTV digital receiver. A centerline buffet with flanking pillars subtly divides salon and dining, leading to the forward dining area with a high‑gloss table and eight dining chairs beneath a custom overhead soffit with lighting and mirror. The forward bulkhead, framed by pillars, presents artwork with lighting and storage below, and SMX AC controls are placed throughout; the day head sits forward for convenience.

Galley

Purpose‑built for extended cruising, the galley features a GE Profile refrigerator/freezer paired with a GE Profile freezer and a Bosch dishwasher, an AEG oven beneath an Arebos glass cooktop, a Siemens microwave for quick heating, a U‑Line ice maker for effortless service, and a Broan trash compactor to keep the space pristine.

Master stateroom & head

The full‑beam master centers on a king‑size berth dressed with a custom spread and shams, with storage beneath, and is encircled by nine large windows for sweeping 180‑degree views. Two built‑in high‑gloss nightstands with drawers and table lamps are set beneath mirrored panels on the upholstered forward bulkhead, joined by a high‑gloss curved dresser with drawers to starboard, a high‑gloss vanity/desk with drawers, pop‑up mirror, and bench seat to port, and an upholstered settee to port. Tie‑back drapes and blinds temper the light, his‑and‑hers closets keep attire organized, and an aft oval high‑gloss entertainment center at the foot of the bed conceals a pop‑up 42" TV with storage for audio/visual components. Aft, a stairwell with handrails port and starboard leads down six steps to the his‑and‑hers bath, arranged around a centerline rounded glass shower enclosure with double etched‑glass doors, marble vanities with mirrors, two heads, and marble flooring with a custom inlay.

VIP stateroom & head

The VIP presents a king‑size berth with custom spread, shams, and storage below, flanked by two built‑in high‑gloss nightstands with drawers and table lamps beneath mirrored panels on the upholstered forward bulkhead. A custom oval soffit with recessed lighting crowns the bed, echoed by custom overhead upholstered panels with recessed lights, while high‑gloss dressers to port and starboard, a built‑in high‑gloss vanity with lift‑up mirror and swing‑arm stool to port, and an upholstered settee to starboard complete the suite. Entertainment is handled by a Samsung 42" TV mounted aft, with a cabinet for a DirecTV receiver, Pioneer C300 stereo, and Sony DVD player, and stowage by hanging lockers and port lights with tie‑backs. A private bath offers a vanity with overhead mirror, a large shower with built‑in bench seat, a portlight, and a head.

Double guest stateroom & head

This guest cabin features a double berth with a custom spread, shams, and storage below, a built‑in high‑gloss nightstand with a storage cabinet, and a built‑in high‑gloss vanity/desk with a mirrored panel and upholstered bench stool framed by two glass bookshelves. A Sharp 36" HD TV is mounted aft, with a hanging locker and port lights with tie‑backs, while the private bath includes a vanity with mirror, a large shower with built‑in bench seat, and a head.

Twin guest stateroom & head

The twin guest cabin offers twin berths with custom spreads, shams, and storage below, a built‑in high‑gloss nightstand with a storage cabinet, two swing‑arm reading lights, and a mirrored panel on the forward bulkhead. Portlights with tie‑back draperies to port and starboard brighten the space, complemented by drawer storage and a hanging locker, while a Sharp 36" TV is mounted aft. The private bath includes a vanity, mirror, shower, and head.

Crew quarters & head

Custom aft crew quarters accommodate four crew in comfort, with a captain’s cabin featuring a double berth, a separate crew cabin with over‑and‑under berths, and a full dinette with a table that converts to a single berth if required. The space is equipped with a Siemens microwave, U‑Line refrigerator, Bosch dishwasher, a Thompson TV with Pioneer receiver, KVH gyro trac, an Electrolux washer and dryer complemented by a Bosch dryer, and a ship’s monitoring system.

Laundry room

A dedicated laundry room streamlines turnarounds with a main Electrolux washer and a main Electrolux dryer.

Generators & electricity

Engineering centers on twin MTU 16V‑2000 M90s with ZF transmissions breathing through Racor fuel filters and assisted by Sliepner Side‑Power bow and stern thrusters and Naiad digital stabilizers upgraded with 9' fins. Shipwide climate is handled by a CruiserAir 10‑ton AC system with SMX controls throughout, and endurance is supported by a SeaRecovery 1200 GPD watermaker, twin Northern Lights 25 kW generators, two Victron battery chargers, a Torrid stainless‑steel water heater, and Pro Nautic batteries dedicated to the generators.

Lazarette

The lazarette is thoughtfully outfitted with a fire alarm panel, Asea power conversion, and a dedicated dive center that includes a California air compressor, neatly organizing technical capability where it’s needed most.

Navigation

The pilothouse and helm suite combine proven systems and commanding sightlines: a Furuno Navnet 64‑mile radar joins a Furuno GPS, Furuno depthsounder, a Furuno RD 30 multi‑display, Furuno Sonar, and an additional Furuno Navnet, complemented by a Garmin GPS 712, Simrad AP20 autopilot, RayMarine ST 60, and B&G 3000 wind/speed/direction. Global communications and awareness are anchored by Fleet 55 inmarsat, a Throne & Thrane sat phone, a KVH Gyro Trac Sat TV system, a Brother printer/fax, a ship’s monitoring system and dedicated ship’s fire alarm monitoring, a Samsung computer, and Naiad stabilizer controls with Sliepner Side‑Power bow and stern controls. Engine data is presented on two MTU electric displays with a Heart Interface Link 2000, while navigation aids include a Furuno Nav Tex X300, two Danforth compasses, Maxwell anchor control, Jabsco searchlight control, and three windshield wiper controls. All of it is integrated into a full high‑gloss helm with leather panels, served by two Benzonni electric leather helm chairs and a leather L‑shaped settee with a high‑gloss hi‑lo table, with custom storage for code flags and burgees, expansive panoramic windows, and a stairwell with sliding glass up to the flybridge.

Deck & hull

Full walkaround decks ensure safe circulation, crowned by a hardtop with an EZ2C glass enclosure. Handling is simplified by a Besenzoni 2000 lb davit, a Maxwell vertical windlass with Maxwell stern capstans, and a stainless‑steel 60 lb anchor, with a Jabsco searchlight ready for night approaches. Forward, a large upholstered sunpad is served by stainless‑steel steps and secure handrails, while teak caprails and teak decks add warmth and surefooted grip.

Cockpit

The cockpit invites indoor‑outdoor living through dual sliding glass doors into the salon and a U‑shaped upholstered bench wrapped around high‑gloss split tables on stainless pedestals, with folding deck chairs and teak decking underfoot. A stairwell with teak steps rises to the flybridge, while dual stairwells port and starboard lead down to the swim platform, where a Besenzoni passarelle eases Mediterranean mooring and two Maxwell 2200 windlasses assist stern‑to operations; the teak swim platform also provides direct access to the crew quarters and lazarette.
