Overview

The HT HOOK is a standout 72’ Merritt custom convertible Sportfish that marries speed, comfort, and refined style. Featuring a four-stateroom, three-head arrangement, she sleeps seven with ease, making her a superb choice for extended cruising and tournament weeks with family and friends in a luxury fishing yacht.

In 2019, HT HOOK benefited from a comprehensive refit at Merritt’s with fresh soft goods, upgraded countertops, and sleek Miele appliances. Twin Seakeeper 9 gyrostabilizers were added for exceptional comfort both drifting and on the run. A Furuno CHS-8LM2 Omni Sonar was fitted, and the 3,000-hour engine service was completed, sharpening her edge as a bluewater sportfishing convertible.

Powered by 1,800 hp Caterpillar C32 ACERTs and maintained with an open-checkbook approach, HT HOOK inspires confidence offshore. The latest 1,000-hour service was finalized in February 2025, when both port and starboard exhaust risers were replaced by D’Angelo, ensuring dependable operation for seasons to come.

In August 2024, HT HOOK received a full renewal of her teak deck and covering boards by Southern Craftsman, elevating durability while enhancing her timeless Merritt aesthetic.

From commanding performance to gracious accommodations and a meticulous service pedigree, HT HOOK is turnkey and poised for her next adventure—equally at home as a tournament Sportfisherman, a custom convertible, or a capable offshore motor yacht.

Detailed Description

Salon

An electric, actuated sliding door ushers you into a salon conceived for effortless entertaining, where an elegant, open layout flows around a spacious custom U-shaped leather sofa to port with dedicated rod and tackle storage beneath. A large custom teak coffee table anchors the space with smooth slide-out drawers, while to starboard a pop-up TV is framed by two swiveling chairs for a perfect conversation nook or movie night. Powered window treatments offer both sunblock and full blackout options, and the overhead integrates refined LED lighting and speakers to set the mood with a touch.

Galley

Forward to port, the galley is a study in precision and polish, with quartz countertops and custom book-matched cabinetry that conceal appliances and generous storage. Two Sub-Zero refrigerated drawer units deliver ample cold space across four drawers, complemented by a large Merritt custom built-in freezer. Culinary capability is assured with a Miele four-burner cooktop tucked beneath a hinged quartz counter, a Miele convection oven, a Sharp convection microwave, and a KitchenAid ice maker, all centered around a stainless sink with disposal. A built-in drip coffee maker glides out on its own drawer, while abundant slide-out drawers under the counter and book-matched teak cabinets forward maximize organization. A spacious walk-in pantry forward of the galley offers impressive room for provisions and tackle alike.

Dinette

Opposite the galley to starboard, the dinette welcomes four around a finely crafted table with discreet storage drawers below, its ambiance elevated by satin-finished teak flooring that continues seamlessly through the dinette and galley. Forward on the starboard side, a generous electrical room stands ready for easy access and clean serviceability without intruding on the yacht’s refined aesthetic.

Companionway

A gracious companionway leads forward down four steps to the staterooms, with an Intervac central vacuum system neatly housed beneath the stairs alongside extra storage. A solid teak handrail lines the port side for surefooted passage, and forward a dedicated laundry cabinet conceals a stacked Miele washer and dryer behind a handsome teak door.

Master stateroom

Situated to port off the companionway, the master stateroom indulges with an oversized queen bed featuring a padded headboard and voluminous storage below. His-and-hers dressers and nightstands pair with his-and-hers closets, complete with shelving and a built-in safe, while a 41" Samsung flat-screen TV brings entertainment into private retreat. The ensuite is appointed with a granite countertop, sink, and teak vanity, a mirrored medicine cabinet, a Headhunter freshwater flush toilet, and a large walk-in shower with a seat and teak-framed door, all set over custom tile flooring for a spa-caliber finish.

VIP stateroom

All the way forward down the companionway, the VIP stateroom is intelligently arranged with oversized over/under berths, three hanging lockers with storage drawers beneath, and a 32" Samsung TV for relaxed downtime. Its private ensuite features a quartz countertop with sink and teak vanity, a mirrored medicine cabinet, a Headhunter freshwater flush toilet, and a generous shower with a seat and teak-framed door, set over custom tile flooring for lasting elegance.

Captains stateroom

Aft to starboard of the VIP, the captain’s stateroom offers an elevated twin-sized berth with a hanging locker and storage drawers beneath, complemented by focused reading lights and a 32" Samsung TV. Direct access to the starboard head and shower streamlines comfort and privacy.

Starboard head and shower

Set aft of the captain’s stateroom and forward of the crew bunk room, the starboard head is accessible from the companionway as well as the captain and crew cabins. Appointments include a Headhunter freshwater flush toilet, quartz countertop and teak vanity, a mirrored medicine cabinet, and a large shower with a teak-framed door over custom tile flooring, creating a bright, functional space that feels impeccably finished.

Crew bunk room

Aft to starboard in the companionway, the crew bunk room provides twin-sized over/under berths, a hanging locker with storage drawers beneath, and a 27" LG flat-screen TV, with convenient access to the starboard head and shower to keep the crew ready and refreshed.

Cockpit & mezzanine

The cockpit is tournament-ready and freshly renewed, with a new teak deck and covering boards installed in August 2024, a varnished teak bulkhead, and mezzanine seating with deep storage beneath. To starboard, a large tackle drawer sits under the mezzanine seat, and an electric sliding door grants easy passage to the salon, while engine room access from the mezzanine deck keeps service out of sight. Air conditioning in the mezzanine overhead pairs with Lumitec tricolored LED lighting and integrated speakers for cool, ambient evenings. Refrigeration abounds: a refrigerated drink box beside the mezzanine, a refrigerated bait box and a large refrigerated drink box in the port mezzanine deck, and a large bait freezer in the starboard mezzanine deck. A Release Marine teak fighting chair with a central rod panel delivers command at the bite, complemented by a varnished teak transom with a walk-through tuna door. Six Gemlux Bluewater adjustable gimbal rod holders line the covering boards, while an insulated in-deck fish box with macerator accepts Eskimo ice pumped from the lazaret. Under the gunwales, dedicated lockers stow gaffs and mops. Shore power is comprehensive with two 50 amp connections in both port and starboard lockers, supported by freshwater washdown and a feed for the Spot Zero unit, plus two 12 volt outlets for electric reels, cockpit coaming lights, a varnished teak step box, and a stainless bridge ladder with teak steps.

Deck & hull

Safety and seamanship are anchored by an 8-man life raft and ten type 3 life jackets, while a teak anchor pulpit carries an 80 lb Suncor stainless steel anchor handled by a Muir hydraulic windlass. Precision docking and maneuvering come courtesy of a Quantum hydraulic bow thruster. A large anchor locker on the bow deck with freshwater washdown simplifies chain care, with dedicated line and fender storage and spare propellers ensuring readiness for every passage.

Tower

The Jack Hopewell tower crowns the profile with padded seating and a supportive backrest, a blacked-out dash, and a fitted console cover. Command and communication are assured with Kahlenberg air horns, a Garmin 8612 GPSMAP, a Standard Horizon GX1500S VHF, a Furuno RD33 multi display, and a Starlink antenna. A sliding hatch in the sun shade grants quick access to the antennas, and a freshwater washdown keeps the station shipshape. A Rupp center outrigger completes the fish-ready stance above.

Electrical systems

Power is abundant and intelligently managed by two 30 kW Onan generators (port 3617 hrs, starboard 3528 hrs), Charles Isoboost power conditioners, a Dolphin battery charger on the starboard side, and a Charles battery charger to port. Six Odyssey batteries are joined by two additional Group 24 Odyssey units with a dedicated Dolphin charger for the cockpit, while two 50 Amp shore power cables keep the vessel seamlessly connected dockside.

Flybridge helm

At the helm, Palm Beach controls with integrated bow thruster buttons deliver fingertip precision, backed by CAT backup controls. Navigation and awareness are led by a Furuno RD-30 digital depth finder, an Airmar R109LHW transducer feeding Garmin, trim tab switches, and a crisp 6-inch Ritchey compass. Inside the console, a DC electrical distribution panel keeps systems tidy, while a full varnish package for the console and glove box, including varnished cap rails, elevates the craftsmanship. Overhead speakers, new tricolored Lumitec LED lights, forward and aft spreader lights, and an ACR remote spotlight control set the stage from dusk to dawn. Three Release helm chairs with teak footrests and cushions front sculpted forward and side seating, with rod storage tucked beneath the starboard locker and a large bow storage area under the brow. Daily comforts include a refrigerated drink box, a stainless sink with washdown hose, hydraulic 50-foot RUPP, 4 spreader outriggers and a center rigger, MIYA Epoch Super US-9 electric teaser reels, and a polycarbonate enclosure by Seaworthy. The aft bridge rail carries 7 rod holders, while the port glove box was rewired in November 2025 with new Blue Water switches and Head Hunter gauges for fuel and water. New start-stop switches for the main engines, an air compressor, and air conditioning on both port and starboard sides of the flybridge complete a command center built for long, confident runs.

Pump room

The pump room is engineered for autonomy, featuring two WaterMakers by WaterMakers Inc. producing 2,000 gallons per day. Pumps were redone in 2024, with both port and starboard high-pressure pumps showing less than 10 hours, and new water maker membranes fitted in July 2025. A watertight door forward of the engine room, a waste pump-out station and gauge with redundant pumps, and a Spot Zero filtration system with pre-filters speak to serious bluewater intent. Practical touches include a Craftsman stainless steel toolbox, a working vise, two marine A/C chillers, a 30-gallon hot water tank, and three Mach 5 fresh water pumps, while an Electrosea strainer safeguards both the house raw water pumps and the bridge raw water pump.

Engine room

Twin Caterpillar C32 ACERT engines deliver 1,800 HP each, with port engine hours at 4,663 and starboard at 4,647, identified by port serial number RNC02473 and starboard serial number RNC02474. Full CAT gauges with start-stop functions sit on each engine. Power support comes from two 30 kW Onan generators—port B070021936 (3623HRS) and starboard B070024957 (3536HRS)—with Airseps optimizing breathing. Fuel manifolds on the aft port and starboard bulkhead and two sight glasses for the aft tanks adjacent to the Omni system simplify management, while exhaust fans, six Racor filters (four for the mains, two for the generators), a Halon fire system, dripless shafts and rudder logs, a compressor air quick connect, and thermostat-controlled exhaust blowers ensure robust reliability. Advanced capability includes a Furuno CSH-8L-MK2 Omni sonar system and twin SeaKeeper 9s for superior stabilization. Service is streamlined by a Baldor oil transfer pump for mains, transmission, and generators, a 15-gallon new oil reserve tank on the port forward bulkhead, and two Fill-Rite DC fuel transfer pumps for the forward fuel tank. New exhaust risers were installed in February 2025 by D'Angelo's, with the 1,000-hour service completed the same month. A Quantum bow thruster hydraulic tank and a new drink box compressor by Gulfstream Marine in October 2025 round out a machinery space built for confident range and quiet strength.

Electronics & navigation

Situational mastery is delivered by all-new navigation lights—anchor, side running, and stern—specified in LED LOPO, alongside a Furuno 25 kW black box radar, Furuno R33 digital depth finder, and Furuno AIS. Communications and control include two ICOM VHF radios with auxiliary overhead speakers, a Garmin autopilot, a Fusion stereo system with four speakers, and a Starlink antenna. Engine and pump room cameras, an ACR remote spotlight, and three Garmin 8617 displays keep the picture crisp, while an Omni sonar control with a handheld controller, a Garmin GMR 2534/2536 xHD3 array, and an Airmar 109LHW transducer round out a professional-grade bridge.
