Overview

Never Say Never is hull No. 102 from Merritt’s Boat & Engine Works, delivered in 2017, and the 14th of fifteen 72-foot custom builds. Meticulously kept by her original owner, this custom sportfishing convertible flybridge remains lavishly upgraded at Merritt’s, tournament-ready and bluewater proven.

Detailed Description

Highlights

Refit highlights showcase serious investment and thoughtful upgrades: brand-new Caterpillar main engines were installed in 2021; new Onan generators followed in 2024; new A/C chillers arrived in 2025; new self-contained A/C units for the cockpit and bridge were added in 2024; and new cockpit refrigeration and freezer compressors were fitted in 2026. For ultimate stability, new Seakeeper gyros were installed in 2026, comprising two 10.5 units and one 6. Handling and efficiency benefit from new “Wake Adaptive” rudders added in 2026. At the helm, navigation was comprehensively renewed in 2026 with three Garmin 8617 GPSMAP chartplotters, three Furuno NavNet 3 units, and a new Garmin autopilot.

Electrical equipment

Power systems are robust and redundant, featuring two Onan generators with 1,000 hours on the port unit and 1,000 hours on the starboard, each delivering a combined output of 29 kW. Shore power connectivity includes two 50 Amp feeds paired with two ACME isolation transformers for clean, protected power.

Batteries

The DC backbone is purpose-built: the main engines are each served by two Odyssey 24V batteries; the generators are each supported by two Odyssey 24V batteries; and ship’s general service runs on two Odyssey 24V batteries, ensuring ample reserve and dependable starts across all systems.

Air conditioning

Climate control is comprehensive and yacht-caliber: inside, a Dometic chilled-water system employs two 36,000 BTU chillers with titanium coils for durability and efficient cooling. Outside, comfort extends to the bridge and cockpit mezzanine via two Dometic 16,000 BTU self-contained units.

Additional equipment

Mechanical and hotel systems are extensively specified: a Sidepower hydraulic bow thruster is integrated with control buttons in the throttle/shift levers; sea intake is safeguarded by the ElectroSea Clear Cell System; freshwater independence comes via a Watermakers Inc. 2,000 GPD watermaker and a Spot Zero SZ111 Double Pass system; domestic pressure is maintained by three Grundfos freshwater pumps; A/C circulation is supported by two raw-water pumps; blackwater is managed by two Oberdorfer pumps and a Headhunter freshwater-flush toilet system feeding a 180-gallon blackwater tank; hot water is supplied by an A.O. Smith 28-gallon heater. Practical touches include an engine room freshwater washdown and dedicated engine room A/C. Charging is handled by two Skylla battery chargers, while a Fireboy automatic fire suppression system provides critical protection. Serviceability is exceptional with a Merritt oil change system, a Junnair air compressor, and two 24V FillRite fuel transfer pumps. Fuel is polished by six Racor filters servicing both main engines and generators, and a 30-gallon oil reservoir streamlines maintenance. Cockpit refrigeration is powered by port and starboard compressors, supported by six Odyssey PC 2250 AGM batteries. Underway reliability is further assured with dripless shaft and rudder seals, 4-inch propeller shafts, 3.5-inch rudder shafts, a Hynautic steering system, and a Humphree Interceptor trim system.

Bridge and electronics

The teak electronics console is flanked by three Bluewater helm chairs and surrounded by ample bench seating with generous under-seat storage, all protected by a C-Worthy bridge enclosure. Day-to-day convenience includes a refrigerated drink box and freshwater washdown in the forward dash. Comfort systems and fishing readiness are integrated in the forward brow, where two A/C units for the bridge and cockpit reside alongside a Rupp hydraulic outrigger system. The helm suite is thoroughly modern: three Garmin 8617 GPSMAP chartplotters display data from three Furuno NavNet 3 units; long-range awareness comes from Furuno 94-mile and 72-mile radars; deep intelligence is provided by a Furuno Omni 8 sonar; vessel tracking via Furuno AIS; and a Furuno RD 33 multi-display ties key data together. A Garmin autopilot eases passage-making, while a FLIR night-vision camera expands capability after dark. Communication is clear through two Standard Horizon GX5500S VHF radios. Control and safety are enhanced with a Humphree trim system controller, a bilge/high-water indicator light and alarm panel, Caterpillar engine displays, bow thruster controls integrated into the throttle/shift levers, Rupp hydraulic outrigger switches, an Iris camera switcher, fuel transfer pump switches, and a fuel tank monitor gauge.

Tower

The tower is fully functional and communication-ready, featuring a Garmin 8215 GPSMAP chartplotter, a Standard Horizon GX5500S VHF, bow thruster controls, and a freshwater washdown. Offshore capability is enhanced by two Starlink antennas, a forward-facing LED light bar, authoritative Kahlenberg air horns, and an access hatch in the top of the sun shade for confident movement aloft.

Cockpit and fishing equipment

The cockpit is tournament-focused yet beautifully appointed, with mezzanine seating cooled by overhead A/C and direct access to the engine room from the mezzanine. Two large refrigerated boxes and a large freezer are integrated into the mezzanine deck, complemented by a dedicated refrigerated drink box and organized tackle storage. Under the gunwales, gaff and mop lockers keep the cockpit tidy. Power for electric reels is ready at two 12V and two 24V outlets. The Bluewater fighting chair, complete with rocket launcher and offset stanchion, anchors the cockpit. Two on-deck live wells are pre-plumbed from a sea chest driven by three Rule 2000 pumps. An insulated in-deck fish box is fed by an Eskimo ice machine in the lazarette, dropping ice directly into the box. Spreads are set with Rupp 50 ft four-spreader hydraulic outriggers plus a Rupp center outrigger.

Salon and galley

The salon welcomes with an L-shaped leather sofa to port offering voluminous storage beneath, a custom teak coffee table, and two occasional chairs to starboard. Entertainment is anchored by a 42-inch TV rising from a starboard cabinet, while A/C discharge is elegantly integrated into teak overhead beams. Opposite the galley, a generous dinette seats four at granite countertops, set over satin-finished teak flooring. Culinary ambitions are fully supported by a Miele six-burner induction stove, a Miele convection oven, and a Franke double stainless-steel sink, with a chilled water dispenser for instant refreshment. Cold storage is abundant with two Sub-Zero two-drawer refrigerators and a Sub-Zero two-drawer freezer. Throughout, custom book-matched teak cabinetry elevates the aesthetic. Behind the scenes, a walk-in electrical room houses DC and AC breaker panels, and a walk-in pantry with slide-out storage bins keeps provisions impeccably organized.

Companionway

Elongated teak steps descend to a companionway clad in refined teak wainscoting, where a dedicated laundry cabinet houses a Samsung stacked washer and dryer, and a linen closet keeps essentials at hand.

Master stateroom

Aft to port, the master stateroom features a large queen berth with expansive storage beneath, a 42-inch TV, and his-and-her nightstands with sconce lighting. Twin cedar-lined closets with shoe racks provide generous wardrobe space, while an ensuite head and shower forward complete the private retreat.

Crew stateroom

Aft to starboard, the crew stateroom is arranged with over/under berths offering storage below, two hanging lockers augmented by storage drawers, and direct access forward to a head and shower.

Captains stateroom

Forward to starboard, the captain’s quarters provide an elevated single berth, a 28-inch TV, a hanging locker with storage drawers, and convenient access aft to a head and shower.

VIP stateroom

All the way forward, the VIP stateroom is appointed with a queen berth and storage beneath, his-and-hers nightstands with sconce lighting, a hanging locker with drawers below, and a 32-inch TV for private entertainment.

Foredeck

At the bow, an anchor pulpit carries an 80 lb Suncor stainless-steel anchor connected to 150 feet of 1/2-inch chain and 600 feet of 3/4-inch rope, driven by a hydraulic windlass. A dedicated foredeck anchor locker organizes ground tackle, while a freshwater washdown and a compressed air line for fender inflation streamline deck operations.

Firefighting and safety equipment

Safety is paramount, with a Fireboy automatic fire suppression system protecting the machinery space, seven handheld portable extinguishers positioned for rapid response, and smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in the salon/galley area. A 24-inch throwable life ring and six life jackets round out the onboard safety inventory.

Exclusions

The following items are excluded from the sale: the owner’s personal effects, all fishing tackle, and on-deck live wells, together with the marlin sculpture in the salon; additionally, all China, silverware, and knives, all pots and pans, and all tools will be retained by the owner.
