Detailed Description

Description and layouts for the R.S.E (Regatta Support Explorer), the D.S.E (Dive), the T.S.E (Toy)

All Ocean Yachts BC 103’ M.P.E (Multi Purpose Explorer) was conceived to distill the innovative spirit of the AOY 90' and AOY 100' cockpit Explorers into a single, highly adaptable platform. Its mission is simple and powerful: one steel-hulled ocean explorer, many niche roles—delivered without major redesign, with consistent seakeeping, long-range autonomy, flexible interiors and the economies of a shared construction platform. The “BC” designation honors Bob Connell—world-class sailor, surveyor and builder whose insight helped shape AOY Explorers for over two decades—and a donation in his name accompanies every sale to US Sailing.

In its R.S.E (Regatta Support Explorer) configuration, the yacht becomes the ultimate mobile base for ultra-large sailing yachts and competitive fleets across the world’s expanding regatta circuit. Below deck, the standard AOY layout welcomes thoughtful adaptations: twin guest staterooms may add Pullman berths, while the port crew double can mirror the starboard upper/lower arrangement. Starting forward, four crew share cabins with ensuite heads and separate showers. Aft to port sits a generous crew mess with sink, fridge, microwave, and a convertible settee that lowers into a full-size berth for temporary crew, dive or fishing guides, with storage below. Further aft is a full-size laundry and dry-stores area with two full-size washers and dryers, a large sink, space for a clothes press and a service door into the guest passage—ample capacity not only for onboard guests but for the visiting race crew’s laundry. In the guest zone, two lower twin cabins with Pullmans are placed aft, and a large queen cabin lies forward to starboard; all guest cabins enjoy ensuite heads with separate showers.

On the main deck, the favored “country kitchen” arrangement optimizes sociability and service. Forward, a vast stores area integrates twin chest freezers, a commercial refrigerator, and extensive dry provisions. This vessel offers exceptional dry, refrigerated and frozen capacity to support high guest counts. An oversize banquette to port seats up to 12 with storage beneath; a large TV behind the banquette supports movies, race reviews and corporate briefings. Aft to port, a counter bar offers seating for 5, open to the galley. Forward to starboard, a desk/office yields to a fully equipped wet bar with drinks fridge, wine cooler, ice maker, sink and abundant storage; it easily doubles as a side-service station for dining. Aft to starboard, an extendable banquette table hosts up to 10, again with under-seat storage. Together with the counter seating, the dining zone accommodates up to 27 guests, with a further 10 seats at the aft bar on the main deck for a total of 37 inside. Include the flybridge and you have standard dining seating for 50, before even considering additional tables that can quickly transform the aft deck for large functions. The robust commercial galley, aft and to port of the dining zone, enables seamless service at scale. The chef’s suite features a 6-burner cooktop, high-grade ventilation, twin convection ovens, microwave, triple sink with disposal, dishwasher and a full-size commercial refrigerator, complemented by generous counters and cabinetry. Aft, the stewardess station adds a triple sink, trash compactor and a rapid 3‑minute dishwasher. Dedicated flatware and china storage with dual-access doors allows serviceware to be loaded from the galley and retrieved from the dining side—a brilliant feature for high-volume service—plus a secondary wine cooler and side bar integrated into the china cabinet. Aft again lies a second large pantry and direct side-deck access for crew and provisions; opposite sits another commercial full-size refrigerator and a double-door freezer. In all, the dining/galley zone boasts three full-size refrigerators, two wine coolers, one drinks fridge, one ice maker, two full-size chest freezers and one double-door freezer. The galley connects directly to the lower crew area and to the side deck, while oversize windows in both dining and galley flood the space with light. Aft of the dining zone, the main foyer offers stairs to bridge and lower decks, plus a head and a large wet locker. Beyond, a dedicated bar, game and TV room sits within direct reach of the galley and features a full-service bar with sink, drinks fridge, wine cooler and large ice maker, plus a game table seating 4 and expanding to 8.

Through an oversize aft door, the yacht reveals its defining R.S.E asset: a 20' x 22' service deck—440 sq ft of open, hard-pointed possibilities. Two oversize 10' x 5' deck hatches port and starboard accept the transfer of massive sails from race boats down into the sail locker/lazarette via the 2‑ton crane located at the aft end of the pilothouse deck. Removable sections in the port and starboard bulwarks simplify movement of sails directly from the 22' RIB chase boats on the bow or from the sailing yacht itself. Space between the hatches accommodates a 10' x 8' container or service trailer while keeping either hatch operable; the crane can offload containers or trailers directly ashore. A forward wet bar with sink, drinks fridge and trash compactor supports the deck, and a large tent awning—crane-supported—can shade sail work, repairs, bands or banquet tables. Aft, a comfortable swim platform grants oversize-door access to the sail locker/lazarette and engine room, facilitating removal of any machinery. The pilothouse deck is reached via starboard aft-deck stairs, forward port and starboard side-deck stairs, or the interior main foyer stair. Its standard layout places the captain’s cabin behind the bridge: the bridge itself is expansive, with a raised starboard-aft settee, a centerline helm chair and bench, and a captain’s desk/communications center to port. The full-width navigation console forward accommodates comprehensive equipment for worldwide navigation; the port drawers and nav counter accept full-size charts, with additional storage to starboard. The captain’s cabin features a raised full-size double bed with drawers beneath, hanging locker with integrated drawers, and an ensuite head with separate shower. Aft, the upper foyer leads to the master stateroom, where a raised king bed with under-storage frames panoramic windows and adds drawer volume. To starboard, a raised lounge/daybed is built into the window for serene viewing, with storage beneath. Three full-size hanging lockers provide a total of 9' of closet space, and a large chest of drawers sits centerline forward beneath a 52" TV. The spacious ensuite enjoys private glazing and a large shower. There is space for a total of 11 guests including the day bed. Further aft, the master deck provides room for chairs and table, two additional chest freezers and the aft crane. Above, a vast flybridge—more typical of a 130' yacht—spreads out with a large Jacuzzi for post‑race recovery, an extra‑large sunpad with storage below, a covered oversize dining and lounging area to port, and a full bar to starboard with seating for six, drinks fridge, ice maker, sink and storage, backed by a BBQ center. Forward up two steps, raised stadium seating with two 6’‑plus benches port and starboard and a center helm offers shaded daybed‑style comfort for spectating or relaxing. Forward of the seating lies a boat deck capable of carrying two 22' chase boats or a mix of tenders; with tenders launched, it becomes an outstanding race‑viewing terrace. This is just one of several interior combinations available for the AOY BC 103 R.S.E.

In the D.S.E (Dive) configuration, the yacht caters to dedicated divers, researchers and wreck hunters seeking remote waters worldwide. Interchangeable layouts all support extensive remote diving, while the large lazarette converts into a full dive center with space for a decompression chamber. The expansive aft deck, with removable rails, is designed for easy deployment and retrieval of side sonar, shark cages, floating dive platforms, suction dredges and diverse equipment. The deck can carry a wide array of underwater gear and/or a 10' x 8' research container, and it may be used to carry a third tender in addition to the two standard large tenders that ferry guests dry and comfortable to hard‑to‑reach sites or shores to explore. We recommend the captain’s‑up arrangement to accommodate extra crew and guides for dive operations.

In the T.S.E (Toy) configuration, the BC 103 becomes a joyous enabler of imagination. The flexible 20' x 22' aft deck and huge lazarette with oversize hatches, plus the large forward boat deck, are deliberately open and adaptable so you can bring a generous, ever‑changing mix of water and land toys. Think a jeep on deck? A small fixed‑keel sailboat? A sailing cat, standard or folding? Canoes, kayaks, paddle boards, windsurfers, kite boards, hovercraft, water slides, Bladefish dive scooters, any scooters or motorcycles—even a folding‑wing airplane: the answer is yes. What you carry—and when—is limited only by your imagination. We again recommend the captain’s‑up layout: the more toys aboard, the more crew you’ll want to maintain them and host everyone safely at play.

Hull Characteristics

The BC 103’ hull is marine-grade steel, delivering confidence offshore with the endurance expected of a true explorer. Length overall is 103'/31.4 meters, with a 97'/29.5 meters length on deck and an approximate length on the waterline of 91'/27.74 meters. The molded beam spans 24'2"/7.315 meters, while the draft at fifty percent load—4580 gallons of fuel and 1500 gallons of fresh water—is 7'6"/2.29 meters. Displacement at full fuel and full water is approximately 220 metric tons, with a light-ship displacement of approximately 183 metric tons. Design speed at cruise at half load is 10 knots, and at one‑hundred‑percent engine load continuous at half load the vessel makes 10.5 knots. Major Equipment List and systems

Power is entrusted to two Caterpillar C18 Electronic main engines, A‑rated at 450 BHP at 1800 RPM, each with deep‑sump oil pans and 24‑volt electric start, mated to reduction gears by twin disk at 3.50.1 with velvet drive. Shafting comprises two 4" diameter Aqualoy 17 stainless steel shafts driving a matched pair of bronze five‑blade propellers—one right‑hand and one left‑hand—while steering authority is delivered by two wing‑shaped semi‑balanced rudders controlled by Kobelt hydraulic steering and pumps. Kobelt engine controls with SPA 10590 remote provide precise command. Vibration is quelled by resilient mounts on all reciprocating machinery, and exhaust for mains and gensets is via Centek water‑wash systems.

Shipboard power comes from two Kilopak or Northern Lights 35 kW generators at 1800 RPM, 120/240 three‑phase, with 12‑volt electric start. The main switchboard features an Atlas panel with seamless transfer and a Trace inverter with Link 4000, while shore power is harmonized by an Atlas 45 KVA power converter feeding two 100‑amp Glendening cable systems, each supplied with 150' of 100‑amp cord. The low‑voltage architecture includes 24‑volt main engine start on two banks of 8D batteries with paralleling; 12‑volt generator starts on two banks of 8D with paralleling; electronics served by four 12‑volt 8D batteries arranged as two 24‑volt banks; a house bank of two 8D batteries for 24 volts; and chargers comprising one 60‑amp and two 40‑amp units. Lighting is predominantly LED throughout the ship, including Aqua Signal 55 series LED navigation lights and five LED underwater lights.

Comfort and control at sea are assured by an Aqua Air Series Model A12‑2‑2 HC chilled‑water system with soft starts totaling 12 tons, Tempwise 2000 fan controls, and two raw‑water pumps, coupled with Quantum Marine Zero Speed stabilizers. Engine‑room ventilation uses two fans with variable speed and reversing controls. Fresh‑ and salt‑water systems are built in CuNi where specified: sea chests are twin units with crossover to supply all seawater consumers; the seawater piping is CuNi with individual strainers per system; the bilge system is CuNi, with both AC and DC bilge pumping, the AC side backed up by the fire main. Tank gauging is via self‑closing sight glasses or dip sticks on all tanks plus a Tank Tender or similar electronic system. Black and grey water systems are Head Hunter, with two diaphragm pumps interlinked for black and grey, and dedicated holding tanks. Toilets are Head Hunter throughout.

Fuel is organized across four tanks including a day tank holding approximately 9160 US gallons (34,800 liters), conditioned by an Alfa Laval MiB 303 fuel cleaning system, with twin Racor 75‑1000MA filters serving the mains and twin Racor 1000 singles on the generators. Transfer is handled by a Blackmer series model 414‑414A electric pump plus one manual pump. Lube and dirty oil are cared for by one 120 US gallon (456 liters) clean oil tank, one 120 US gallon (456 liters) dirty oil tank, and two Oberdorfer AC pumps hard‑plumbed. Potable‑water capability includes two 800 gpd desalination units with auto back‑flush and sand filter, two pressure sets from Water Maker Inc 3/4 HP AC with a 36‑gallon pressure tank, a hot‑water circulating pump, two 50 US gallon (190 liter) water heaters, two Aqua‑Pure drinking‑water filters, one UV filter, one pressure‑reduction valve, four fresh‑water deck outlets and two fresh‑water showers. Compressed air is supplied by a 1 1/3 HP model 3 C‑2425252D with a 2.5‑gallon reserve tank and outlets in the engine room and on the foredeck. On deck, ground tackle includes two 200 kg CQR‑type anchors with two 137‑meter 5/8 stud‑link chains, two Maxwell VWC6000 windlasses with foot and remote controls, stainless chain guard at the bow, and chain counters in the wheelhouse. An American Bow Thruster 65 HP unit provides bow control, while soundings ashore are announced by a Buell quad pneumatic air horn with auto fog. Handling of boats and stores is enabled by two Steel head or Aritex marine cranes rated at 2 tons, complemented by an Aritex or similar fully retracting hydraulic passarelle.

On the bridge, five electric windshield wipers—Exalto/Vetus 295M pantograph with integral washers or equal with stainless arms—keep sightlines clear, and two Danforth 5" Constellation compasses offer classic reliability. Pilothouse seating includes two bench‑settees per designer drawings, one paired with a granite‑top table, and one centerline helm seat as drawn.

Aft deck/lazarette

Aft, a 20' x 22' deck forms a powerful, reconfigurable arena. Two oversize 10' x 5' hatches open to the large lazarette, and a dense grid of hard points lets you secure equipment of every kind. A 10' x 8' container fits neatly between the hatches, and a sun awning can be deployed above to create a shaded work bay or an alfresco entertainment lounge. Standard removable side rails are offered, with an option for manually folding bulwarks operated via the 2‑ton aft crane; fold them out 90 degrees and the deck grows by 6'6", expanding to a dramatic 20' by 28'6". A full wet bar sits forward by the salon door. The lazarette itself measures 21' x 12'6", accessible via the deck hatches or the swim‑platform door. It is intentionally flexible, ready to host a complete dive center, toys, sails or mission‑specific gear.

Captains Cabin

The preferred arrangement places the captain’s cabin just aft of the wheelhouse, with a full‑size double bed and drawers beneath, a hanging locker with integrated drawers, and a private head with separate shower—exactly where the leader belongs for swift access and serene rest between watches.

Crew Lounge

A generous crew lounge awaits aft of the crew cabins on the port side, anchored by a 6'6" settee whose table lowers to create a berth for an extra short‑term crew member or guide, with storage tucked beneath. Opposite, a counter hosts a sink, fridge and microwave. From here, crew can move forward up to the galley or aft to the full‑size laundry, which, in turn, grants direct access to the guest areas for smooth, discreet service.

Crew Quarters

Two forward crew quarters on the lower deck each feature ensuite heads with separate showers. Cabins may be configured with single over‑and‑under berths or a lower double berth, according to crew composition. Access is via the stair descending from the galley. An engineer’s cabin may be specified in the lazarette for missions that require it.

Layouts

AOY’s shared platform philosophy unlocks a family of interior arrangements without compromising the yacht’s explorer DNA. Choose the convivial country‑kitchen main deck with dual banquettes and counter seating that scales to large gatherings, pair it with the captain’s‑up bridge deck for augmented crew capacity, or opt for alternative lower‑deck guest configurations with Pullman berths and convertible crew spaces. Each layout preserves direct service routes, oversized glazing and abundant cold‑storage, while the vast service deck and modular lazarette anchor every mission profile—from regatta logistics to deep‑dive expeditions and toy‑heavy adventures.

Optional dining area master on deck

For owners who favor a private retreat, the master‑on‑deck option can be specified with an intimate dining area seamlessly integrated into the suite. Here, panoramic windows frame a table sized for elegant breakfasts or candlelit dinners, serviced discreetly via the stewardess station and side‑deck access. Storage is thoughtfully woven beneath raised platforms, while acoustic treatment preserves hush and privacy. This option elevates the master into a sanctuary where the day’s voyage can end in quiet sophistication, steps from the open air of the private aft terrace.
