Overview

SEAGLASS, a luxury motor yacht and cruising yacht, is perhaps the most meticulously maintained and extensively upgraded AT41 to reach the market in years; fully turnkey and afloat, she’s ready to slip lines and embark on her next voyage.

Detailed Description

Intro and broker notes

SEAGLASS is a meticulously maintained, significantly upgraded American Tug 41—one of the most popular and iconic trawler-style cruisers ever built. These rugged, semi-displacement tugs are revered for shuttling owners through the most demanding passages of the Pacific Northwest while also excelling as comfortable, efficient, easily handled Great Loop travelers. The trawler-style hull delivers reassuring versatility and stability, while the ability to run in the mid-teens when the moment demands sets the American Tug apart from its peers. SEAGLASS has enjoyed a distinguished lineage of ownership, with back-to-back meticulous custodians investing extraordinary time and capital to update and refine nearly every system aboard. No expense has been spared and no bilge left untouched, with roughly $300,000 invested in upgrades and major service over the past three years. Annual oil samples from 2021 to the present are on file, with comprehensive service records and refit invoices available upon request. In short, SEAGLASS is arguably the best-kept and most thoroughly upgraded AT41 to reach the market in years, needs absolutely nothing, and is in the water—turnkey and ready for a Great Loop adventure. More than $250,000 was invested in a major refit by her former owner in 2018–2019, with a further more than $50,000 in recent upgrades and major service under the current owner. Extensive service records, invoices, and oil sample reports are logged and available. Over 1,000 of her engine hours were run in fresh water on the Great Loop. The current owner added 347 hours in New England waters, operating the yacht four to five months per year and storing her under cover each winter. Freshwater flush kits were added to the engine and genset sea strainers, and both were flushed with fresh water after every use. A recent hull survey and oil samples are available upon in-person showing or inspection (July ’25).

Notable recent upgrades

The yacht presents with a Midnight Blue Awlcraft finish (circa 2018), complemented by new Garmin electronics and a retractable, articulating instrument mast for reduced bridge clearance. A 1,000 lb Steelhead dinghy crane (electric) makes tender handling effortless, while a FLIR infrared/thermal camera adds confidence in low visibility. The swim platform was enhanced with Tanner 316 stainless steel staple rails in 2022, and the swim ladder was replaced the same year with a larger, centerline-mounted ladder. Underwater ambiance and safety are elevated by two Ocean LED Pro 3010 TH H‑Gen2 Midnight Blue underwater lights. Entertainment upgrades include an LG 43" 4K UHD HDR Smart TV in the owner’s cabin and an LG 28LJ430B‑PU LED TV in the forward cabin. For drivetrain protection, a Soundown Short Razor 2.5" rope cutter is fitted to the prop shaft. Fire safety has been modernized to current standards with the engine room Fireboy system upgraded to meet the new ABYC requirements in 2025, and an additional new fire‑suppression system installed in 2025 to meet new regulations. Illumination and efficiency improvements include Scandvik LED engine room lights (circa 2022) and conversion of all overhead lights to LEDs (circa 2022). Bottom paint was refreshed seasonally before launch in 2025. Practical daily‑use upgrades include a new washer/dryer combo unit (2025), a new alternator (2025), and a new engine air filter element (2025). Real‑world performance confirms her capable stride: a top engine speed of 16 knots at 2,550 rpm with a fuel burn of 27.4 gallons per hour, and an efficient cruise of 9 knots at 1,800 rpm burning 11.3 gallons per hour.

Construction

The American Tug 41 is built with hand‑laid, hand‑rolled rove and resin laminate hulls. The bottoms are solid fiberglass‑reinforced plastic (FRP), with coring above the waterline to enhance strength, insulation, and sound attenuation. Molded frames and stringers are formed as a single unified matrix and then glassed into the hull for maximum strength, structural integrity, and durability. Deck hardware is robust and thoughtfully placed, including a Lofrans Tigres TG 011581 1,200‑watt/12‑volt windlass with up/down foot controls feeding a Mantus 65 lb anchor with Mantus swivel and an anchor rode locker with deck‑access hatches. Movement is secure thanks to tall stainless steel handrails ringing the decks and minimum 28" bulwarks to port, starboard, and aft. Visibility and protection are aided by windshield wipers with wash, four stainless steel‑framed portlights, and three aluminum‑framed deck hatches. There is a forward salon entry door, a ladder to the flybridge, and an FRP module with sink and shower, plus a transom door with overhead and courtesy lighting. Heavy‑duty tender handling is provided by a Steelhead Marine ES1000 four‑function hydraulics crane (circa 2018). Bridge clearance is reduced via an articulating, collapsing instrument mast controlled from the helm (circa 2018).

Electronics

Navigation and situational awareness are comprehensive, anchored by a Garmin GND 10 Black Box Bridge with Nexus integration to NMEA 2000 and a suite of displays comprising three Garmin GPSMap 8617 17" multifunction screens. A Garmin GHC 20 autopilot display pairs with the Garmin Reactor 40 course computer and the Garmin autopilot. FLIR thermal vision enhances night and fog operations, while a Garmin camera on the aft deck feeds the helm for a clear stern view during docking. Data inputs include a Garmin card reader and a Garmin GSD 25 Advanced Sonar Module, with headings and bearings backed by a Ritchie Powerdamp marine compass. The engine is monitored via a Cummins Marine Smart Craft multifunction display. Radar coverage comes from a Garmin GMR xHD2 open array paired to a Garmin GMR 424xHD/426xDH pedestal. Communications are handled by a Garmin 115 Marine VHF radio with GPS, complemented by a Garmin Weather Station on the mast and a Garmin GXM 53 SiriusXM Weather Module. Entertainment and antenna systems include a TracVision KVH TV5 Direct TV dome (circa 2018), with the TracVision KVH TV5 dummy dome housing additional antennas. Search and maneuvering aids include a Jabsco search light with joystick control at the helm, Side Power bow thruster joystick control, Side Power stern thruster joystick control, and a Side Power FOB remote enabling mobile control of both thrusters.

Electrical system (overhauled/updated in 2021)

Power is abundant and intelligently managed. A Northern Lights model M753W2‑8KW 8 kW generator (3,584 hours as of 3/2025) supports ship’s loads, while 50‑amp shore power feeds through a Cable Master electric cable tender with push‑button retract. Inverted AC is delivered by an upgraded Xantrex Freedom SW sine wave inverter/charger, 3,000 watts (2021). The 12‑volt DC system centers on Blue Seas Systems primary and secondary distribution panels—one primary with a digital battery meter and two secondary panels, one of which features voltage and amp metering. Battery capacity includes three 8D AGM 12‑volt house batteries (2021), one 8D AGM 12‑volt starting battery (2025), and two 4D AGM 12‑volt batteries (2024 and 2025), supported by a Charles Solid Power 60‑amp battery charger; SidePower bow and stern thrusters draw from this robust DC backbone. The 120‑volt AC system includes two Blue Seas Systems distribution panels, 110‑volt strip heaters in the salon, stateroom, and forward head, Marine Air systems air conditioning with 16,000 BTU in the salon, 5,000 BTU in the forward cabin, and 5,000 BTU in the master cabin, plus two Ocean LED Pro 3010 TH H‑Gen2 Midnight Blue underwater lights and 110‑volt outlets throughout. The 240‑volt AC system features the Northern Lights model M753W2‑8KW 8 kW generator (3,584 hours as of 3/2025), a Blue Seas Systems primary 240‑volt AC distribution panel with a digital volt meter, a secondary 240‑volt AC distribution panel, and a Seaward 11‑gallon, 220‑volt water heater with engine heat exchange option.

Mechanical systems

Handling is precise and confidence‑inspiring thanks to a Capitano hydraulic steering system with the helm in the pilothouse. The freshwater system is equally robust, featuring a ShurFlo Aqua King II 5.0 gpm freshwater pump, a ShurFlo Extreme Blaster 5.3 gpm deck washdown pump, and a Seaward 11‑gallon, 220‑volt water heater with engine heat exchange option.

Interior

An L‑shaped settee upholstered in tan Ultra‑Suede faces a drop‑down dining table, with a side table offering storage forward and outboard of the settee. Additional lockers sit forward outboard and under the entertainment console. A Samsung flatscreen TV, Sony MEX‑M71BT CD stereo with Bluetooth, and Autopro BD 1208 Blu‑ray player anchor the media suite. Marine Air air‑conditioning controls, 110‑volt outlets, cream carpeting, and convenient access to the engine compartment through hatches in the salon sole complete the space.

The sole is finished in classic teak and holly.

Pilot station: The pilothouse is bathed in light with overhead illumination, opening windows—one to port, one to starboard, and one aft—and fixed windows—three forward, one port, one starboard, and one aft. Port and starboard doors to the weather decks each have opening windows. Custom snap‑on sun protection window coverings were installed in 2021. Classic nautical touches include a ship’s clock and barometer. Entertainment and communication are supported by a Fusion MS‑RA70N Bluetooth stereo receiver, while the full suite of navigation electronics is detailed under Electronics and the electrical distribution panels under Electrical Systems. The helm is a destroyer‑type wooden wheel with stainless‑steel spokes, with a reading light over the adjacent desk; the desk to starboard aft has drawer storage below and a pull‑out seat. An inboard U‑Line ice maker beneath the settee (circa 2018) and tan carpeting on the pilothouse sole round out the space.

Guest cabin: Continuing forward from the pilot salon and descending the starboard steps, the forward‑most guest cabin welcomes with overhead lighting, an overhead opening hatch, and two opening portlights. Reading lights sit above the head of the berth to port and starboard. Stowage is generous with a locker outboard of the berth, a hanging locker forward, and drawer storage below. The double berth lies to port and outboard, with air‑conditioning controls and an LG flatscreen TV enhancing comfort. A forward settee with tan Ultra‑Suede upholstery and tan carpeting on the sole complete the retreat.

Guest/day head: To starboard of the guest cabin, the spacious head features overhead lighting, a molded shower stall with an opening portlight and a shower wand on a flexible hose, a vanity with lighting, and composite molded countertops. A single‑basin sink pairs with a VacuFlush electric marine head. Locker storage resides below the sink and above the head, and the sole is finished in teak and holly.

Owners cabin: Returning to the upper landing, the SeaVac central vacuum hookup sits outboard. Turning to port, steps lead down to the lower landing, where the owner’s cabin is found aft through a door. At the foot of the steps forward is a dedicated locker housing a Splendide 2000 washer and dryer. Entering the generous owner’s cabin, overhead lighting illuminates a large drop‑down LG flatscreen TV recessed above the berth, with two opening portlights above the berth. A standing vanity forward and inboard offers a large mirror, work surface, and drawer storage, complemented by a full‑length mirror on the aft bulkhead, cedar‑lined hanging locker storage forward, and shelf storage outboard above the berth. There are 110‑volt outlets and reading lights forward and aft at the head of the berth.
