Detailed Description

Description

Tartuga is a proven, extensively updated Beneteau Oceanis 48, poised for her next bluewater chapter. Fresh from a successful 2024 Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) crossing and a confident Bahamas cruise through the 2025–2026 season, she presents as a thoroughly equipped and thoughtfully refined platform with the big-ticket maintenance and upgrade items for a yacht of this size already accomplished.

Between 2024 and 2026, her owner executed a comprehensive refit that included a new North mainsail and genoa in 2024, new wire standing rigging in 2024, a 560Ah lithium house battery bank in 2024, and a B&G NAC-3 autopilot in 2024, followed in 2025 by a new or upgraded SD60 saildrive, a major electrical system upgrade, and an upgraded Balmar high-output alternator, culminating in 2026 with a new Simrad twelve-inch multifunction chartplotter and fresh bottom paint, along with recent engine and saildrive service to keep her turnkey and ready to roam.

Beyond these significant improvements, Tartuga is comprehensively outfitted for extended cruising, featuring a 1,050W solar array mounted on a custom stainless-steel arch, a Schenker watermaker, three-zone air conditioning, a bow thruster, three electric Harken winches, an electric windlass, AIS, Starlink, and a shoal-draft keel drawing six feet, plus a 2021 Highfield 340 aluminum RIB powered by a 20 HP Tohatsu outboard.

Her desirable three-cabin, two-head owner’s layout delivers generous comfort for a cruising couple, family, or guests while preserving excellent storage and easy liveaboard flow.

Crucially, Tartuga is not merely equipped for the voyage—she has proven her mettle offshore. The completed ARC passage and subsequent Bahamas season showcase both the boat’s capability and the reliability of the systems aboard.

Privately owned and never chartered, with no known hurricane or material damage history, she has been actively maintained and substantially upgraded by her current owner. Tartuga is USCG documented, properly imported with CBP-7501 documentation, and available for immediate inspection at Safe Harbor Charleston City Marina.

Overview

Purpose-built for effortless bluewater cruising, this Beneteau Oceanis 48—Tartuga—presents as a refined, thoroughly updated, never-chartered yacht with no known hurricane or material damage history. She carries a shoal draft of six feet and a versatile three-cabin, two-head layout, complemented by the poise and protection of in-mast furling and the confidence of a bow thruster. Major upgrades include a new 120V electrical system with a 50 Amp shore-power connection in 2025, a new inverter/charger and isolation transformer that same year, an upgraded alternator, and fresh North mainsail and genoa in 2024 with wire standing rigging also renewed in 2024. Performance and sail handling are elevated by a Code-0, a spinnaker pole, and three electric winches, while a Schenker Zen 30 DC high-efficiency watermaker, a robust 560 Ah LiFePO4 house bank (2024), and three-zone AC broaden the comfort envelope at anchor and underway. On the stern arch, 1,050W of solar power feeds the lithium bank; the arch also integrates dinghy davits and a solar mount, and carries a 2021 Highfield 340 Aluminum RIB powered by a 2021 Tohatsu 20 HP outboard. A new Simrad twelve-inch NSSEVO3S multifunction navigation display arrived in 2026, and a Fusion audio system with cockpit speakers was installed in 2024. Underbody care is current, with the bottom professionally prepped and painted with Sea Hawk Biocop TF antifouling in April 2026. The saildrive was replaced and upgraded in 2025, with fluid changed using Rotella T 15W40 in April 2026.

The sail plan is optimized for shorthanded cruising, anchored by an in-mast furling mainsail and genoa furling. A North mainsail and North genoa were new in 2024, with a Code-0 added in 2020; wire standing rigging was renewed in 2024 for peace of mind. Sail control lines are largely led aft to the cockpit, where two Harken primary electric winches and one Harken electric cabin-top winch team with a manual Harken cabin-top winch to simplify every maneuver. A spinnaker halyard, spinnaker pole, rigid boom vang, two genoa tracks with turning blocks, a split backstay, and a mainsheet arch round out the package. The jib sheet clutch was replaced in 2025, and seventy-five percent of the running rigging—main halyard, jib halyard, topping lift, outhaul, vang, furling line, and mainsheet—was replaced in 2024.

On deck, Tartuga’s wide side decks and clean foredeck make movement secure and intuitive, while the expansive cockpit—with twin helms and a centerline table featuring storage, lighting, and stainless steel handrails—sets the stage for relaxed passages and elegant entertaining. New settee cockpit cushions arrived in 2026, complemented by six folding cockpit cushions, a dodger, a bimini, and mesh side curtains; in 2025, eisenglass panel windows were added to both bimini and dodger for improved visibility and weather protection. Storage abounds in two large cockpit lockers, additional compartments in the cockpit sole, a dedicated propane locker, and a liferaft locker beneath the helm seat. The electric fold-down transom (with a new actuator in 2025) forms a generous swim platform, supported by a swim ladder and cockpit shower, and closes to create secure seating when raised. Most sail controls lead aft, electric primary winches sit within easy reach of each helm, and the mainsheet is carried on an overhead arch for a safe, uncluttered cockpit. Forward, ground tackle is cruise-ready: a primary seventy-three-pound Rocna anchor with more than 150 feet of chain, a spare fifty-five-pound Delta anchor, and a 12V DC Lewmar 1,500W automatic windlass on the bow with a handheld wired remote. A stainless steel bow fitting with two anchor rollers, an anchor/chain locker, and a large foredeck sail locker with ladder and shelves keep gear orderly, while six aluminum mooring cleats and an attractive wood passarelle add practical finishing touches. The aluminum arch incorporates a dinghy lift, an outboard lift, solar brackets, and a Starlink mount, plus an outboard engine bracket.

A comprehensive electrical refit in 2025 brought six Victron Energy 175W solar panels (1,050W total) on the arch with Victron solar charge controllers, a modern 12 V electrical panel, and upgraded power distribution supporting both domestic and international cruising. Power storage and starting systems include four 12V DC Bosch S5 A05 AGM 60Ah bow thruster batteries below the V-berth, two ECO-Worthy 12.8 280 Ah Lithium Iron Phosphate house batteries for a 560 Ah total, and a 12V DC Banner Buffalo Bull 605-02 Group Size 31 105Ah 100CCA engine start battery. At the nav station, a Victron Energy Inverter Charger Multi Control and a Victron energy management display (2025) provide intuitive oversight. Shore-power connectivity comprises a 50A 125/250V shore-power inlet (2025), a 30A 125V shore-power inlet (2025), and two 50 Amp shore-power cords (2025). The vessel is configured for U.S. 120/240V, 50A split-phase shore power and can also accept European 230V/50Hz shore power; when connecting to European shore power, an appropriate shore-power adapter is required with the European line and neutral corresponding to L1 and L2 at the vessel’s shore-power connection, and the adapter is not included. The upgrade ensures onboard systems operate as designed at the dock, supports future generator integration, and is documented by an invoice available upon request. Scope of work included the removal of obsolete equipment and wiring; upgrades to wiring to support new equipment; installation of breakers and fuses as needed; a Victron Energy Auto Transfer for all 120V loads; a Victron Energy Quattro 12/3000/120/230V inverter/charger and control; a Victron Cerbo GX and screen to monitor all components; an Acme Auto Transformer 15 kVA isolation transformer that converts split-phase to single-phase for the boat’s mains; a DC-to-DC converter for the engine start battery; a Balmar XT DF 170 J10 175A alternator; a furnished 50A, 50 foot 220V shore-power cable; a 10 kVA automatic transfer switch for future generator installation; new 110V AC outlets with USB-C fast-charging ports throughout the vessel; rewiring of an existing shore-power inlet for use with a portable generator; and replacement of the house battery bank DC wiring.

Electronics are equally up-to-date with a new Simrad twelve-inch NSSEVO3S multifunction navigation display (2026), two Simrad wind direction/speed displays, and two Simrad depth and boat-speed displays. Autopilot control sits at the port helm, driving a B&G NAC 3 autopilot (2024) paired with an L & S hydraulic drive unit for assured tracking. Communications and navigation aids include AIS with transmit and receive, a Simrad RS20S GPS fixed VHF marine radio with mic, and two size 6 Plastimo magnetic compasses on the helm station dashes that remain in serviceable condition. Entertainment and connectivity are delivered by a Fusion radio with two cockpit speakers and two salon speakers (2024), plus a Starlink router and dish on a custom mount.

Plumbing systems are cruise-ready. The Schenker Zen 30 DC high-efficiency watermaker delivers independence at sea. Fresh water totals 175 gallons across three crosslink polyethylene tanks in the forward and mid-ship bilges, each served by deck fills, and is pressurized by a 12V DC Johnson Pump 5.0 GPM freshwater pump; the tank accumulator was replaced in 2025. Hot water is supplied by a Quick B3 Nautic Boiler 40 10.6-gallon water heater installed beneath the starboard side. The aft head carries a manual raw-water Jabsco toilet (2024) with major hoses replaced in 2025, while the forward head benefits from a Raritan macerating electric toilet (2025). Two crosslink polyethylene blackwater waste holding tanks manage sanitation. Grey water is handled by two 12V DC Whale shower sump pumps below the two sinks; the yacht offers three sinks and two showers in total. Fuel capacity stands at 105 gallons via two polyethylene diesel tanks located beneath the two aft berths. Bilge management is provided by one electric and one manual bilge pump, and a dedicated LPG storage compartment is fitted.

Below, the interior is warm and contemporary, with rich teak joinery framing a bright, airy salon. The galley, ideally positioned to port at the base of the companionway, features an L-shaped layout with a stainless steel sink, an ENO three-burner LPG stovetop range with oven (2025), and a versatile Microwave/Air Fryer/Oven (2025). Cold storage is generous with two 12–24V DC Vitrifrigo units: a 26-gallon top-opening freezer and a 34-gallon front-opening refrigerator. Opposite the galley, a large head with a separate shower is perfectly placed for guests and day use. The salon’s U-shaped settee and dining table to starboard, with additional seating to port, invite relaxed meals and conversation, and storage is intelligently integrated above and below. Two aft guest cabins offer comfortable double berths, ample ventilation, and hanging lockers, while the forward owner’s suite elevates privacy with a centerline berth, generous storage, a vanity with seating, and an ensuite head with a separate shower. Climate control comes by way of three-zone AC—Dometic Cruise air 24,000-total BTU reverse-cycle units located below the V-berth and the starboard salon dinette bench seat—supplemented by several 12V fans, a Fusion audio system serving salon and cockpit, and a TV added in 2025.

Mechanically, power is supplied by a 75 HP Yanmar (4JH4-TE) with sail drive, showing 2,431 hours. A new upgraded SD 60 sail drive was installed in 2025, and the sail-drive fluid was replaced in April 2026; a 2,000-hour engine service was completed in 2025, and engine fluids, filters, and the impeller were changed in April 2026. An upgraded Balmar alternator (2025) enhances charging, while an engine control panel at the port helm simplifies operation. For precision anchoring and docking, a 12V DC MaxPower bow thruster with controls at the portside helm teams with a 12V DC Lewmar 1,500W anchor windlass and handheld wired remote. The Zen watermaker remains aboard to extend range and autonomy.

Safety and extras are comprehensive: an Arimar six-person offshore liferaft (2024) with expiration dated 09/2026, an Ocean Signal EPRIB (2024) with expiration at the end of October 2034, and a MOB pole and flag (2024) join a ditch bag with expiration date pending confirmation, four fire extinguishers, a fire blanket, jacklines, and PFDs. Cruising convenience is further enhanced by a foldable bike (2025), spare parts, and a well-stocked tool kit.

Pride of ownership shows in meticulous maintenance. In 2025, lights in the forward cabin were upgraded; the starboard-side winch motor was replaced; water tank selection valves and the water pressure bladder were replaced; the engine kill switch was renewed; the outboard was serviced; seventy-five percent of the running rigging was replaced; the refrigerator and freezer were serviced; the winches were greased; the swim platform actuator and bushings were replaced; the steering was inspected and adjusted; stern lifelines were replaced; and a new logo was applied. In 2026, two filters on the watermaker were changed, the saildrive fluid was changed in April, engine oil and fuel filters and the impeller were changed in April, and the bottom was repainted in April—ensuring Tartuga is turnkey and poised for her next horizon.
