Overview
Meet the 48 ft 1983 Cherubini Stay Sail Schooner Victoria, lying in Newport, Rhode Island—a classic sailing yacht of rare pedigree, with only a pair of sisterships known stateside. A true Classic Yacht and Luxury Sailing Yacht, Victoria blends the romance of traditional lines with the confidence of modern construction, delivering the poise and presence sought by discerning mariners who value authenticity, elegance, and offshore capability.
Built by Cherubini, renowned for artistry and integrity since 1924, this 48'9" schooner marries the warmth and charm of a wooden look with the durability and low maintenance of a fiberglass hull. Her Stay Sail Schooner rig is the hallmark of a Bluewater Cruiser and Performance Cruiser: easily driven, balanced, and seakindly, with a smooth, quiet motion that encourages long passages. Fresh bottom paint underscores a regimen of thoughtful care, so she’s poised to sail now with confidence.
On deck, the teak planking and brightwork glow with handcrafted refinement, echoing a golden age of seamanship while presenting a refined platform for contemporary cruising. The proportions are graceful, the details purposeful, and the overall effect is both timeless and commanding—precisely what a Classic Schooner should be. She’s equally at home ghosting along a summer breeze off Newport or stretching her legs across an ocean, a true Ocean-Going, Offshore Cruiser ready for remote horizons.
Below, Victoria reveals an interior shaped by traditional craftsmanship and intelligent design, offering a spacious, warm, and beautifully appointed retreat. It’s a genuine Liveaboard standard: an inviting salon, abundant storage, and thoughtful amenities that make extended cruising practical and pleasurable. The fit and finish elevate daily life aboard, while the layout remains functional under way, supporting everything from coastal cruising to world voyaging with ease.
Under sail, the combination of a modern fiberglass structure and classic schooner geometry yields quiet strength, durability, and predictable handling. The result is efficient, comfortable cruising—stable performance that inspires trust when the miles and the weather demand it, yet graceful sailing that turns every outing into an occasion. This Cruising Sailboat is built for travel and built to last.
Choosing Victoria means securing a piece of sailing heritage that is as capable as it is beautiful. With her fresh bottom paint, gleaming teak decks, and enduring lines, she stands as both a work of art and a practical passage-maker—an heirloom-quality yacht whose rarity and condition promise enduring enjoyment and long-term value.
Detailed Description
Accommodations

In the salon, full-size port and starboard settees flank a handsome drop-leaf dining table beneath an overhead butterfly-opening mahogany skylight, with bookshelves, additional storage lockers, directional reading lights and overhead lighting completing a welcoming, functional living space. The large U-shaped galley, aft to port and open to the salon and dining area, is appointed for serious cruising with a Frostmate 10 cu. Ft refrigerator and a Frostmate 10 cu. Ft deep freezer, a Force Ten 4 burner stove with broiler, baking oven, bronze griddle and wood cutting board, a microwave oven, a pressure water system with water heater, and a mahogany wine cabinet to starboard holding 6 crystal wine glasses. The aft master stateroom enjoys a private entrance from the cockpit, a double berth to port, and a settee aft to starboard with shelves, supported by generous drawer storage and a wardrobe locker, plus a forward navigation station positioned over the main engine. Its ensuite master head features a vanity with sink, a proper shower and a shower sump with float switch. Forward, the guest stateroom offers a comfortable V-berth, ample drawers and storage lockers, and a wardrobe locker, served by its own forward ensuite head with a vanity including sink and storage, a shower and a shower sump with float switch.
Electronics and helm details
Confident passagemaking begins with precise control and clear data: a bow thruster, depth sounder, radar, log speedometer, and wind speed and direction instruments complement a navigation center thoughtfully located in the master stateroom. At the helm, a GPS chart plotter and autopilot streamline route-keeping, while a stereo system with cockpit speakers, a reliable compass and a marine VHF ensure communication, entertainment and situational awareness at all times.
Electrical
The yacht’s electrical backbone is designed for autonomy and reliability, featuring a generator, battery charger, shore power inlet and an inverter, all supported by seven 4D AGM batteries to deliver robust, dependable power underway and at anchor.
Deck
On deck, craftsmanship meets purpose. A cold-molded mahogany deck house and cold-molded mahogany side decks flow into a beautifully executed teak cockpit, complemented by teak side decks and hand-finished teak detailing. Practical touches include a cockpit shower, radar reflector, cockpit cushions, a cockpit table and a swimming ladder, while a propane locker with propane solenoid, stainless steel stanchions with life lines and internal keel ballast bonded to the hull laminate underscore thoughtful safety and construction. Sailing performance and ventilation benefit from a shallow Scheel keel and six Dorade cowling vents, and line handling is effortless with six line winches in the cockpit—two center forward, two to port and two to starboard.
Covers
Protection and polish come standard with a bimini top, a dodger and a spray hood, complemented by a mainsail cover and a genoa cover to keep the canvas crisp and ready.
Sails and rigging
Set up to make bluewater miles with ease, the sail plan features a Marconi-rigged main with fore and main staysails, with the staysails self-tending for effortless short-handed tacks. A storm jib and a trisail stand ready for heavy weather, while a furling mainsail and furling genoa deliver convenient power across the range. Anti-chafe strips for the running rigging in the cockpit preserve gear and performance on passage.
Engine and mechanical details
Mechanical systems are specified for confidence offshore, including an engine-room bilge pump with auto float switch, a forward bilge area pump with auto float switch and an oil change pump to simplify maintenance and protect the machinery spaces.
