Overview

Originally designed by the military, this vessel was configured to carry fourteen crewmen within the aft house on the main deck between frame 40 and the stern, where two berthing compartments, a head and laundry, galley, mess room, store room, electrical distribution equipment room, and muffler room were thoughtfully arranged. The two berthing compartments comprised an original twelve-man berth to port and a two-man Chief Petty Officer space to starboard; today, the portside quarters serve as a break and recreation room, while the starboard CPO space retains two metal bunk beds for crew rest. Immediately aft of the former crew quarters—now the break room—lies the combined crew head, shower, and laundry. There are no additional wall or deck finishes beyond painted insulation panels on the exterior bulkheads and overhead, and painted insulation panels on the deck, which insulate these spaces from the heat of the engine room below.

Set between the recreation room and the mess, the compact galley is efficiently outfitted with a stainless steel counter featuring an integral double sink, with robust steel shelving above and below. A large residential-type stainless steel refrigerator/freezer partners with a simple four-burner electric range topped by an installed vent exhaust, while a coffee maker, microwave oven, and toaster round out the practical appliance suite. Adjacent, the intimate mess room offers a fixed table with bench seating along the sides, accommodating about six persons simultaneously.

The head and laundry area is equipped with a single shower stall, toilet, and double stainless steel sinks, complemented by a commercial-style clothes washing machine and dryer and an electric hot water heater.
