Detailed Description
Overview
Purpose-built to military specification, this vessel was originally configured to carry 14 crew within the aft house on the main deck, spanning from frame 40 to the stern. This self-contained zone comprises two berthing compartments, a head with laundry, a galley, a mess room, a store room, an electrical distribution equipment room, and a muffler room. The berthing arrangement featured a twelve-man compartment to port and a two-man Chief Petty Officer space to starboard. Today, the original portside crew quarters serve as a break and recreation room, while the starboard CPO space retains two metal bunk beds for crew rest. Immediately aft of the former crew quarters—now the break room—sits the dedicated crew head, shower, and laundry. True to its robust pedigree, the interior carries no decorative wall or deck finishes beyond painted insulation panels on the exterior bulkheads and overhead, with painted insulation panels laid on the deck to shield the spaces from the heat of the engine room below.
Between the recreation room and the mess, the compact galley delivers practical efficiency with a stainless steel counter and integral double sink, complemented by steel shelving above and below the countertop. A large residential-type stainless steel refrigerator/freezer is paired with a straightforward 4-burner electric range beneath an installed vent exhaust, and the setup is completed by a coffee maker, microwave oven, and toaster.
The mess room, intimate yet functional, features a fixed table flanked by bench seating along the sides, accommodating about six persons simultaneously for meals or briefings.
The head and laundry area is equipped for round-the-clock operations, offering a single shower stall, toilet, double stainless steel sinks, a commercial-style clothes washing machine and dryer, and an electric hot water heater.
