Overview

Penelope (formerly Princess Gloria/Stampede) is a 118’ expedition motor yacht from Delta Marine, launched in 1990 and comprehensively renewed in 2006–2008 and again in 2024. Built on a time‑tested commercial fishing platform with GRP construction and a true full‑displacement hull, she delivers outstanding blue‑water capability, comfort, and efficiency. A 12‑foot extension by Delta Design Group created her signature fishing cockpit and confirmed her 118‑foot LOA, elevating her into a formidable sportfishing mothership and refined family luxury cruiser—an explorer yacht and superyacht‑class blue‑water motor yacht.

Detailed Description

Description

Penelope (ex Princess Gloria/Stampede) is a 118-foot expedition motor yacht by Delta Marine, originally delivered in 1990 and comprehensively refit in 2006–2008 and again in 2024. Built on a proven commercial fishing hull of GRP with a full-displacement form, she marries rugged seaworthiness with notable efficiency. A 12-foot hull extension engineered by Delta Design Group created her signature fishing cockpit and stretched her overall length to 118 feet, elevating her into a true sportfishing mothership while preserving the grace and comfort of a family cruiser. Twin Caterpillar 3412 TA diesels rated at 624 hp each, fully overhauled in-frame in 2016, drive her to a top speed of 12 knots and an efficient 10-knot cruise that unlocks a far-reaching 6,000‑nautical‑mile range at 10 knots while burning approximately 32 gallons per hour for the mains plus one generator. She carries 20,000 gallons of diesel, 2,000 gallons of fresh water and a 450‑gallon gasoline tender refueling station, while Naiad 503 fin stabilizers and a 100‑hp hydraulic Schottel bow thruster ensure excellent stability and fine‑tuned maneuverability. Electrical power is delivered by two 75‑kW Caterpillar 3306B generators complemented by a new 65‑kW Northern Lights night generator installed in November 2025. The deck plan is purpose‑built for adventure: the flybridge sits beneath a hardtop with a full helm, hot tub, wet bar and generous C‑shaped seating; the boat deck deploys dedicated hydraulic cranes to handle two tenders—an 18’9” Egret with Yamaha VF115LA and a 17’ Hells Bay repowered in 2024—together with racks for kayaks and paddleboards and a Sea‑Doo GTX Limited 300 new in 2024; the aft deck serves teak dining for 10 with steps up to the boat deck and down to the cockpit. The professional fishing cockpit is outfitted with 15 rod holders, a massive livewell, fish boxes, extensive gear lockers, a 600‑lb/day ice chipper and a 450‑gallon gasoline fueling station. Forward, twin Steen windlasses manage two 1,100‑lb stockless anchors with 720 feet of chain each. Accommodations for eight span four staterooms: a full‑beam master suite with king berth and en‑suite head with dual sinks and separate shower; two queen‑berth VIPs aft, each with en‑suite head; and a forward twin with two singles and en‑suite head, plus a convertible gym/office offering added flexibility. Crew spaces support up to seven, including a captain’s cabin and forward crew cabins with full laundry facilities. Recent refits from 2023–2025 include a new Atlas shore‑power converter, the night generator installation, upgraded ice‑making and refrigeration systems, dual Starlink Maritime antennas for high‑speed connectivity, and a comprehensive AV/CCTV refresh with new Luma PTZ and fixed network cameras; all soft goods were renewed in 2024, complementing earlier multi‑million‑dollar works that redesigned the interiors, added the 12‑foot hull extension and laid new teak decks. Navigation and electronics are equally extensive, featuring two Furuno NavNet radars, multiple Furuno NavNet chartplotters, a Garmin GPS Map 840xs, a Simrad AP50 autopilot, Danforth compasses, Furuno sonar, AIS, Standard Horizon, Quantum and Uniden VHF radios, an ICOM SSB, KVH VSAT and twin Starlink Maritime systems—an expedition‑ready suite that pairs with her robust machinery and generous fuel and water capacities to carry you to remote horizons in safety and style.

2023-2025 upgrades & improvements

From 2023 through 2025, Penelope benefited from a stem‑to‑stern program of upgrades focused on reliability, comfort and connectivity. On the mechanical and systems side, she received a new Atlas shore‑power converter, a Northern Lights 65 kW Tier 3 night generator with dual‑stage muffler, new main‑engine exhaust spray rings with fresh insulation, and new chargers for the house, starting and navigation/emergency‑backup banks; new air‑handling units were fitted for the control room, sky lounge and fresh‑air make‑up, and all engine‑room deck plates were powder‑coated. In the galley, a new Wolf oven and induction cooktop were integrated into custom stainless cabinetry, the galley refrigerator was completely rebuilt, and a new salon wine cooler and beverage refrigerator were added; on deck, a new icemaker on the boat deck produces 125 lbs/day while a dedicated fishing‑cockpit ice chipper delivers 600 lbs/day. The audio/visual and electronics suite was comprehensively renewed, with a complete AV upgrade throughout the vessel, 55‑inch Samsung televisions in the sky lounge and main salon (the latter with a new TV lift), a 43‑inch Samsung Frame in the master stateroom, and three 32‑inch Samsung televisions in the lower guest cabins; Sonos amplifiers drive new speakers on the aft deck, sun deck and flybridge, a Denon receiver with Crestron controls anchors the main salon, two Starlink Maritime internet systems provide robust broadband, and a complete CCTV network was installed with three PTZ and five fixed Luma cameras tied to an NVR. Rounding out the enhancements, the Hells Bay tender was repowered with a Yamaha 70 hp outboard and a new SeaDoo GTX Limited 300 joined the toys.

Accommodations

Penelope welcomes eight guests across four well‑appointed staterooms. The full‑beam master suite centers on a king berth and features an en‑suite head with dual sinks and a separate shower. Aft, two VIP staterooms each offer queen berths and private en‑suite heads with showers, while forward a twin cabin provides two single berths and its own en‑suite head. A convertible gym/office on the starboard side forward adds valuable flexibility for different guest profiles. Crew accommodations support up to seven, with a captain’s cabin with private head, port and starboard forward crew cabins with shared heads, and a crew pantry with full laundry facilities.

Propulsion & machinery

Penelope is powered by twin Caterpillar 3412 TA diesel engines rated at 624 BHP each at 1,800 rpm; these commercial‑duty powerplants received complete in‑frame overhauls in 2016 and currently show approximately 3,240 hours since rebuild on the port engine (15,140 total) and 3,304 hours since rebuild on the starboard engine (15,144 total). Drive is transmitted through Twin Disc MG‑516 reduction gears with a 5:1 ratio to custom five‑blade propellers, delivering an economical 10‑knot cruise at roughly 32 gallons per hour for the mains plus one generator and a 6,000‑nautical‑mile range, while Naiad 503 fin stabilizers and a 100‑hp Schottel hydraulic bow thruster provide superb stability and precise maneuvering control.

Electrical generation

Electrical power aboard Penelope is provided by two 75 kW Caterpillar 3306B generators and a new 65 kW Northern Lights night generator installed in November 2025. The port and starboard Caterpillar units received top‑end rebuilds in 2022 and presently show approximately 3,500 and 3,355 hours, respectively, while the Northern Lights night generator has around 100 hours since installation. A 70.5‑kVA Atlas shore‑power converter, installed in 2023, delivers global voltage and frequency compatibility for seamless operation on shore power.

Performance & capacities

Driven by twin Caterpillar 3412 TA engines, Penelope reaches a maximum speed of 12 knots and settles into an efficient 10‑knot cruising rhythm. At 10 knots she offers an impressive 6,000‑nautical‑mile range while consuming approximately 32 gallons per hour for the mains plus one generator. Tankage includes 20,000 gallons of diesel fuel, 2,000 gallons of fresh water and a 450‑gallon gasoline tender refueling station, enabling extended voyages without frequent resupply.

Stabilization & maneuvering

Penelope is fitted with Naiad 503 fin stabilizers, fully serviced in 2021, delivering excellent roll reduction underway and at anchor. For close‑quarters handling, a powerful 100 hp Schottel pump‑jet bow thruster works in concert with her Twin Disc gearboxes and hydraulic steering to provide precise control and smooth, confidence‑inspiring maneuverability in all sea conditions.

Deck layout & equipment

The deck plan is thoughtfully executed to balance leisure and expedition utility: the flybridge beneath a hardtop presents a full helm with Stidd chairs, a hot tub, a wet bar with sink and refrigerator, and generous seating areas; the boat deck carries two large tenders—an 18’9” Egret and a 17’ Hells Bay—along with a Sea‑Doo GTX Limited 300 and dedicated racks for kayaks and paddleboards, all handled by hydraulic cranes; aft, a teak‑clad dining area seats 10 around a hi‑lo table with built‑in seating; and the professional‑grade fishing cockpit is comprehensively outfitted with 15 rod holders, a large livewell, fish boxes, an ice chipper, a bait freezer, tackle storage and a 450‑gallon gasoline refueling station. Forward, twin Steen windlasses manage two 1,100‑lb anchors on 720 feet of chain each, while preserving open deck space for sunbathing or work.

Navigation & electronics

Her navigation and communications suite is built for blue‑water confidence, with Furuno NavNet TZtouch black‑box multi‑function displays on 24‑inch monitors installed in 2023 to drive X‑ and S‑band radar and chart functions, backed up by a Furuno FR‑7112 radar and NavNet 3D system. Additional aids include a Garmin GPSMAP 840xs chartplotter and depth sounder, a Simrad AP70 autopilot, a Koden KS‑2007 searchlight sonar, a Raymarine AIS700 transceiver, Furuno WAAS GPS with a Danforth compass, Icom M506 VHF radios paired with an Icom M802 SSB radio, and global connectivity via KVH VSAT, Starlink satellite broadband and an Iridium phone. A CCTV camera system monitors the engine room and exterior decks for added situational awareness.

Safety equipment

Safety has been addressed with ocean‑going seriousness: two 10‑person RFD life rafts (inspected 2020) stand ready alongside twenty Type I life jackets, ten immersion suits for high‑latitude passages and two life rings with lights. An ACR GlobalFix V4 EPIRB and SART complement multiple portable fire extinguishers distributed throughout the vessel, while a clean‑agent fire‑suppression system installed in 2022 protects the engine room. A diesel‑driven fire pump with hydrants on deck, along with flares, medical kits and an emergency steering tiller, further underscore her preparedness.
