Overview
Gunboat 60 is a performance luxury sailing catamaran crafted for bluewater voyages, celebrated for blistering pace, refined living spaces, and shorthanded handling—an elite offshore multihull cruiser for world exploration.
Detailed Description
Introduction
Drawn by the renowned British multihull designer Nigel Irens, the third generation of the Gunboat series was produced at what is now the HH Catamarans factory between 2012 and 2018—legendary for best‑in‑class performance, quality, durability, and aesthetics. MOONWAVE is the very first of this new generation and, arguably, the most distinctive: she sails with a unique all‑electric propulsion system (not hybrid) and an operator‑friendly configuration tailored for relaxed, confident world cruising. Despite being hull number one of the GB60, she has had just one owner and only two captains over thirteen years afloat, and in that time has benefitted from millions of dollars in upgrades and refits, including three successive power packs. Today she runs the refined and increasingly superyacht‑favored Torqeedo Deep Blue system, which drives the engines and nearly every system on board. Paired with her enormous solar array and advanced power‑management architecture, MOONWAVE achieves remarkable autonomy—she once spent 116 consecutive days off the dock, combining passage and anchorage time. Her nearly‑compulsory vertical daggerboard upgrade transformed handling and performance versus the original swinging centerboard, and her draft is just 3.9' with the board up and 11.5' with it down. Further significant recent upgrades are detailed below. Immaculately maintained, competitively priced, and easy to inspect in the water in Newport, Rhode Island, MOONWAVE is ready for her next horizon; contact the listing broker for full details or to arrange a private showing. Not available for sale to US clients while in US waters.
Recent notable upgrades / updates
MOONWAVE’s continuous program of enhancement is extensive and recent. The EC6 carbon standing rigging was updated across 2023–2024, capped by a full rig‑down inspection in June 2025. Battery and power‑pack components were renewed in stages from 2019 through 2024, while the solar array was entirely replaced in 2024. The Lorima carbon fiber Park Avenue boom was fitted new in 2018 and, together with the mast, was repainted in 2022; the longeron was also repainted in 2022. Running rigging has been replaced on a rolling basis, with much of it less than two years old. Performance appendages were refreshed in 2018 with new daggerboards and Lorima carbon rudders, supported by titanium rudder bearings installed in 2019 and titanium saildrives added in 2019. The sail wardrobe was renewed between 2022 and 2023 (including Main, J1, small A2, and big A2, with the Solent added in 2023). The hull received a premium Alexseal Dolphin Blue repaint in 2018, the trampoline was replaced in December 2023, and the steering system underwent a comprehensive redesign and refit in 2017. Navigation instruments were upgraded between 2018 and 2023, dinghy tubes were replaced in 2022, the dinghy outboard was replaced in 2021, hydraulics were upgraded in 2019, and a new watermaker was installed in 2018.
Mechanical
Purpose‑built for silent strength and reliability, MOONWAVE’s genset was renewed in 2024 with a Lombardini LDW1404m/Torqeedo 20 kW variable‑speed DC unit showing 337 hours as of August 2025. Propulsion is provided by two Torqeedo Deep Blue 25 SD motors paired with titanium saildrives manufactured by OMS, delivering instant torque, ultra‑low vibration, and exceptional control under power.
Deck hardware
Her ground‑tackle suite is all‑business: a Lewmar V5 24 V windlass teams with a Rocna 150 lb anchor and 250 feet of 3/8 G4 stainless‑steel chain to set fast and hold with confidence. Power handling is effortless thanks to two Harken 80 three‑speed self‑tailing radial aluminum winches. The EC6 carbon standing rigging underpins a refreshed sail plan—new Main, J1, small A2, and big A2 from 2021/2022, complemented by a 2023 Solent—balancing pace with control. For racing‑grade data and redundancy, the B&G H5000 Performance Package features two B&G Glass Helm displays for radar, charts, and sailing analytics, together with dual B&G autopilots.
Electrical
The yacht’s energy ecosystem is state‑of‑the‑art. Thirty‑two custom Solbian panels totaling 3,500 watts (2024) feed thirty Genasun GVB‑8 Boost controllers reprogrammed in 2024 to charge up to 29.05 V, maximizing harvest and battery health. At its heart lies the Torqeedo Deep Blue power pack, anchored by a BMW i3 400 V 40.9 kWh main battery and complemented by a Torqeedo Power 24 V bank rated at 422.4 Ah (10.9 kWh). A new 15 kW inverter (2024) delivers abundant, clean AC power for hospitality and hotel loads.
Galley
Thoughtfully specified for gourmet living at sea, the galley features a Miele electric oven and a Bosch five‑burner induction stove for precise, efficient cooking. A Quooker Pro3 and Cube system elevates service at the tap, while cold‑storage capacity is exceptional with four Vitrifrigo DW180 fridges complemented by a Vitrifrigo DW180 freezer.
Instruments
Clarity and control begin at the helm with two Zeus3S GH MFD 16 displays paired to two Nemesis 9‑inch screens, giving instant access to charts, sailing data, and system dashboards. A Garmin Zeus 9‑inch display is slaved to the Torqeedo system for propulsion oversight, while four Garmin GNX120 cockpit displays keep performance metrics visible from every working position. Load awareness is precise thanks to two Diverse Yachts hybrid load‑cell amplifiers, and situational intelligence is elevated by a HALO radar, ORCA Core 2.0 processor, SEA.AI visual‑detection suite, and a Sentinal marine monitoring platform. Communications and safety are anchored by V100 AIS/VHF and an NRS‑2 VHF DSC‑AIS AUDIO unit, with two B&G Zeus 3S MFD PILOT control interfaces steering the H5000 autopilots, guided by a Precision 9 compass and a ZG100 compass/GPS. Global tracking and connectivity are handled by a YellowBrick Tracker, Peplink cellular and Wi‑Fi with a Mobility 42G antenna, a Peplink MAX BR1 Pro router, and Starlink Flat High Performance for high‑bandwidth offshore internet.
Accommodations
MOONWAVE welcomes guests with four guest cabins plus a dedicated crew cabin, arranged for privacy and flow. In the starboard hull, an aft guest cabin is served by its own private head set amidships, while the owner’s suite lies forward with an en‑suite head and shower. In the port hull, aft and midships guest cabins share a head positioned between them, and the crew cabin sits forward of the guest spaces with its own head for full independence. Both bows conceal cavernous storage lockers accessible from the interior, expanding stowage without intruding on living space.
