Detailed Description

Overview

Accommodations aboard this classic Huckins welcome you with two comfortable staterooms sleeping four, each served by a full head with a stall shower. A bright, spacious saloon lies amidships with an open, adjacent galley, while above a generous bridge deck with a centerline helm delivers true 360-degree visibility, flanked by wide side decks and culminating in a huge, work-ready cockpit.

The aft master stateroom sits three steps down from the saloon and combines flexibility and volume with large single berths to port and a queen to starboard, complemented by a large hanging wardrobe, a chest of drawers, and a vanity. Four steps up on the centerline of the aft bulkhead provide direct access to the cockpit, and an adjoining, spacious head offers a stall shower. Four large portlights flood the suite with light and natural ventilation.

Forward, the guest stateroom occupies the forepeak with large V-berths, a generous hanging locker, and an adjacent head compartment. A large overhead hatch and five portlights keep the space airy and luminous.

Descending three steps from the bridge deck, the deckhouse saloon spans the beam with oversized windows port and starboard that frame the horizon whether at anchor or underway, while three forward windows further brighten both the saloon and the open galley. An inviting L-shaped settee to port faces a pair of occasional chairs to starboard with a coffee table between, creating a relaxed, sociable gathering space.

The galley, forward and one step down from the saloon and one step aft of the forward stateroom, runs the full width of the boat and remains open to the saloon for a light, airy feel. It is equipped with a fridge–freezer combo refrigerator, a Shipmate propane three-burner range, a double stainless-steel sink, and a Paloma instant hot water heater.

Both heads are thoughtfully specified: the master features a VacuFlush head with a 20 gallon holding tank, while the forward guest head is fitted with a Raritan Crown head and a 10 gallon holding tank. Each includes a separate stall shower.

Up and aft four steps from the saloon, the bridge deck centers the helm on the centerline for commanding, all-around sightlines. A built-in companion seat to port incorporates a convenient bar at its aft side, while a built-in settee aft to starboard invites conversation underway. To port, an opening leads to the cockpit via three steps down. Access gates on both port and starboard provide easy transition to the side decks. The teak bridge sole, a Todd helm chair with a custom built-in cabinet below, plush bridge deck seat cushions, and dual Buell air horns powered by a dedicated compressor complete an eminently practical and stylish helm environment.

Power comes from twin Caterpillar 3208 TA diesels rated at 375 hp each, repowered by Huckins in 1992 and currently showing approximately 3500 hours. New universal drive shafts were installed in 1998; the Huckins vee-drives were rebuilt in 2002; and in 2016 the current owner replaced both shafts and the bearing, continuing a pattern of careful, knowledgeable stewardship.

Electrical and electronics are comprehensive, with 12 and 32 volt wiring throughout; two banks of four 8D batteries serving the 32 volt systems; and a dedicated 12 volt bank for generator start and miscellaneous electronics. Shore service is via 50 and 30 amp power cords located on the starboard side, supported by 12 and 32 volt chargers. Navigation and communication are handled by a Furuno 48 mile radar with open array antenna, a Raymarine chart plotter, a Datamarine Sandpiper speed log, a Datamarine Sandpiper III model 2450 depth sounder, digital tachs, a Standard VHF, a compass, and a Wood Freeman auto pilot.

The hull is a hallmark of Huckins craftsmanship: double-diagonal planked 3/8" Philippine mahogany bonded with resorcinol resin and sheathed in 20 oz fiberglass cloth set in epoxy. All decks and cabin tops are similarly sheathed in 10 oz fiberglass cloth set in epoxy, while the bilges are epoxy resin coated and compartmentalized with four watertight bulkheads for strength and security.

Under the current and third owner for over 10 years, the vessel has benefited from constant upgrades and diligent maintenance, including the 1992 repower, replacement of all window glass with tinted glass, rebedding of all cleats, chocks, and deck fittings, plus interior refinishing and exterior repainting. A personal inspection will confirm the excellent condition of this Huckins.

Plumbing and climate systems include two electric heads, three reverse-cycle A/C units, instant hot water, and a fresh water accumulator tank. Rounding out the package are practical extras such as fenders, dock lines, assorted spare parts, and an assortment of 30 and 50 amp power cords.
