Detailed Description

About

This is a remarkably versatile cruising yacht, designed to adapt to your plans at a moment’s notice. Configure her as two massive suites with three heads, or transform her into three or even four cabins; either way, the forward stateroom delights with His & Hers heads, each with its own shower, so you can designate one exclusively for showering and keep the other perfectly dry. Aft, a very spacious full-beam owner’s cabin enjoys its own ensuite, and with movable partition walls you can effortlessly convert the interior into a three- or four-cabin arrangement. Even in the four-cabin layout, eight sleep in comfort, and the dinette drops to create an additional double berth for two. With three heads to serve a full crew, she’s equipped accordingly with a 10-person life raft. True to her bluewater spirit, the dinghy rides safely on the forward deck, while the stern carries a robust solar panel frame complete with an outboard motor mount and a propane barbecue. Real teak flows across the cockpit and decks, underlining the premium build. A complete new suite of Raymarine electronics was installed at both helms in 2020, and a new Raymarine Axiom-12 chart plotter was added at the navstation in March 2023. The current owner purchased her in Europe and cruised safely and comfortably with family from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean, then on to Fort Lauderdale, with many passages to Key West, the Abacos and the Bahamas; in December 2021 she sailed to the Dominican Republic and then to Puerto Rico. The boat is actively used and systems are kept fully functional. She is TAX PAID, making her “AVAILABLE for Sale to US Residents While in US Waters.” In July 2021 the teak decks were restored, all chrome, the fiberglass deck and hull were polished, and light interior cabinetry wear was remedied, followed in August 2021 by refinishing of any deck gelcoat blemishes such as spider cracks or chips typical of a used boat. Fresh bottom paint was applied in January 2023. Browse the photo gallery captured on July 23, 2021, to appreciate the care and finish.

Upgrades

In Tortola on January 9, 2023, she received a thorough yard period including new bottom paint, new zincs, a new through-hull valve, fresh UV covers on both the genoa and the mainsail, a professional inspection and service of the standing rigging, and professional maintenance on the prop shaft and struts. In Puerto Rico in March 2023, the nav station chart plotter was replaced with a Raymarine Axiom-12, new engine soundproofing shields were fitted, the engine was fully serviced and cosmetically refreshed with fresh paint on the block and accessories, a new windlass control was installed, and new DC outlets with USB ports were added for modern convenience. Considering that this listing is by far the lowest price 49 DS worldwide, it may be perceived as being in poor condition; however, with the recent service and ongoing upkeep, we feel that $200,000 remains a highly competitive figure given its maintenance history and location. As of January 31, 2023, market context included: a 2008 Jeanneau 49 DS in Florida asking $249,00; a 2007 Jeanneau 49 DS in Croatia asking $173,438; a 2006 Jeanneau 49 DS in France asking $249,000; and a 2006 Jeanneau 49 DS in Greece asking $183,194. Sail area dimensions are specified as I 55.75 ft, J 18.50 ft, P 51.58 ft, and E 17.67 ft.

Overview

Jeanneau introduced a signature for 2005 with the Sun Odyssey 49 DS, conceived from the celebrated “Deck Salon” idea of the Sun Odyssey 54 DS. Like her big sister, she wears the distinctive teardrop-shaped windows that have become a hallmark to emulate. A performance-oriented hull by Philippe Briand / Jeanneau Design and a new-generation deck line by Vittorio Garroni ensure elegance with reassuring comfort at sea. In the cockpit, teak bench seats and sole set a warm tone, complemented by a twin bottle gas locker, two lockers beneath the helm seats with access panels to technical spaces, and a floor storage compartment with a teak grate between the helm stations. Twin leather-wrapped steering wheels each carry a compass and stainless-steel handrail, with a vertically mounted shift/throttle lever at the starboard helm for intuitive control. The cockpit table features folding leaves, central storage, a glass holder, stainless-steel fiddle with a handrail and integrated light, and electronics mounting panels at each helm and beneath the table. A twin-door transom gate opens to teak-faced transom steps and a stern skirt with a freshwater deck shower, while a stowable swim ladder with teak treads invites effortless water access. In the saloon, a U-shaped settee to starboard provides convivial seating, with battery bank access under the seat and a table fitted with protective fiddles and central storage. Two removable table legs enable conversion to an optional double berth. Upper lockers and under-seat storage abound, and to port a lounge bench with integrated bar complements a CD/radio in the port shelf. Generous lockers hide beneath the lounge seats, with teak shelves and protective fiddles below the hull portlights. Optional salon arrangements include a luxury folding table with a swinging glass holder; note that the double salon berth is incompatible with the luxury table option. Two lounge chairs complete the setting. The cabin plan here is the three-cabin version with three washrooms, featuring the aft owner’s cabin and two modular forward cabins. Electrical systems include a 12V alternator and a charge distributor with a single entry and twin outlets, an engine start battery, and a 12V service battery park with three batteries plus one optional. Shore power is 230V with a ground fault circuit breaker, with an optional 12V/60A charger. There is an engine battery switch, a service battery switch, and a general battery switch; a 12V electrical panel with circuit breakers resides at the nav station along with a 12V ammeter, a 12V voltmeter, and general amperage consumption gauges. A 230V source selector switch allows dock selection; there is no generator. Two 180 W solar panels add silent charging underway. The galley, slightly lower to starboard, uses a resin countertop that integrates an icebox and dish-drain panels, a folding stove cover, and two removable sink covers. A dependable 2-burner stove/oven pairs with a 230-liter top-loading icebox with shelves and storage bins. A storage cupboard with a door-mounted trash bin and shelves, a seawater/freshwater foot pump with faucet, upper lockers for an optional microwave, dishware and supplies, a cutlery drawer, a glass divider between saloon and galley, a mixer tap, a leather-wrapped handrail, and floorboards with access panels all reinforce practical ergonomics, aided by a stove fan with exhaust. A front-loading icebox is available as an option. The engine room is mounted on a fiberglass chassis with an integral engine pan and dedicated ventilation circuit. Soundproof insulation has a protective surface and finished edges, with inspection panels for filters at the foot of the companionway. There is access to engine and genset thru-hulls in the cabin passageway, a structurally attached metal shaft strut and fiberglass shaft tube, a stainless-steel prop shaft of 35 mm diameter with a dripless stuffing box, and a fixed three-blade propeller. An engine compartment blower and a water-separator filter round out the installation. Keel structures benefit from reinforced Kevlar, with a deep-draft cast iron keel at 2.15 m and 3,750 kg (7.05 feet and 8,267 lbs), protected by an epoxy surface treatment. Luxury items include dorades, compass mount, navigation lights, a teak deck, a classic wide dodger, a classic bimini, cockpit cushions, steering wheel covers, a cockpit table, and a hot-and-cold deck shower. At the navstation, the main electrical panel provides access to connections, with a large side locker and underfloor storage, a big lifting cover and chart table stowage, space for radar/chart plotters, and a curved nav seat offering storage or space for an optional washing machine. Mast and rigging specifications include an anodized aluminum furling mast with twin spreaders, discontinuous cable rigging, a twin backstay, a Profurl above-deck genoa furler, a rigid boom vang, and all halyards led aft to the cockpit via SPINLOCK rope clutches, with Harken halyard blocks at the mast base. A deck projector, boom topping lift, mainsail and genoa halyards, mainsail and genoa sheets, and padeyes for flag halyards complete the running setup. Sails are furling: a furling mainsail and a furling genoa with a luff shaper, with options that include a classic mast and a spinnaker pole and gear. Plumbing features a hot-and-cold pressure water system with semi-rigid plastic hose and a pressure pump, a 40-liter hot water heater, rotomolded plastic freshwater tanks under the berths with separate fills and vents, chrome faucets with shower heads in the washrooms, a water tank meter, and showers each with a dedicated electric drain pump and on/off switch. For clarity, recent buyers’ Q&A is consolidated as follows: the sails are original, lightly used, and in very good condition, with a new UV cover on the genoa in 2022; there is no spinnaker. The standing rigging is original, with a full rigging inspection completed in 2015 and new Morseman turnbuckles on both backstays in 2021. Running rigging was replaced in 2017 and has been very lightly used due to Covid years in storage. Ground tackle includes the Delta Plow anchor shown in the photos plus a spare anchor, with 60 meters (~200 ft) of new chain added in 2019; there is a spare anchor, though the specific name in English cannot be recalled. The house battery bank uses top-of-the-line AGM batteries installed in 2020; overall capacity in amp-hours is not specified, the batteries are two years old, and yes, the type is AGM. There is a 220 V inverter, with wattage to be confirmed when the owner returns to the boat on July 8. The liferaft was recertified in 2019, but it should be replaced. Regarding VAT, it expires after a three-year absence from Europe. The current owner is only the second owner, having purchased the yacht in Spain in 2011.
