Overview

The Jonmeri 48 was conceived and crafted in Finland as a pilothouse sailing yacht delivering outstanding speed and seakeeping. Measured against many newer pilothouse sailboats, this blue‑water, ocean‑going design was well ahead of its era. Exquisite Scandinavian build quality, paired with the diligent care of a long‑term owner, makes this performance cruiser a compelling choice for sailors with ambitious offshore cruising or liveaboard plans.

Beginning in March, the asking price shifts from $279,000 to $179,000—a dramatic adjustment reflecting the owner’s commitment to conclude a sale.

Detailed Description

Description

Conceived and built in Finland, the Jonmeri 48 is a pilothouse cruiser sailing yacht that marries bluewater capability with genuinely lively performance. Against many newer deck‑saloon and pilothouse sailboats, this ocean‑going performance cruiser still feels ahead of its era. Superb Finnish craftsmanship and the attentive stewardship of a long‑term owner make it a compelling choice for sailors with serious offshore cruising or liveaboard plans who value a true offshore passagemaker.

Beginning in March, the asking price is being reduced from $279,000 to $179,000—a significant adjustment that underscores the seller’s commitment to a timely sale and presents exceptional value in the premium pilothouse/bluewater yacht category.

Propulsion

Power comes from a Volvo inboard diesel installed in two thousand, delivering a total of 100 hp with approximately 4,400 engine hours. The direct‑drive setup turns a three‑blade bronze propeller, providing reliable thrust and efficient cruising for this bluewater pilothouse cruiser.

Specifications

The Jonmeri 48 measures 48 ft length overall with a 40 ft waterline, a 14.5 ft beam, and approximately 6.67 ft of cabin headroom, proportions that balance performance with comfort in a deck‑saloon, offshore‑ready hull. An electric windlass supports anchoring, and the liferaft is rated for eight. Tankage includes roughly 200 gallons of fresh water in stainless steel and about 100 gallons of diesel fuel in stainless steel. Accommodations provide three guest cabins and two guest heads, ideal for an offshore performance cruiser or liveaboard sailing yacht.

Other details

Accommodations: Purpose‑built as a high‑performance pilothouse cruiser, the interior centers on a salon where the U‑shaped dinette opens forward to the table rather than to the side, which frees space for an open starboard galley. Ahead of the main bulkhead there is a large port guest stateroom with a double berth, a second starboard cabin with over/under berths, and a full guest head forward. The aft master spans the full beam with a generous berth and an ensuite head with shower. The full‑width pilothouse provides the sightlines and practicality usually reserved for larger yachts: the helm console integrates navigation electronics plus engine monitoring and performance instruments; to port, a capacious nav desk faces a broad, accessible electrical panel on the cockpit bulkhead; to starboard, a pilot berth sits opposite. The galley to starboard features deep stainless steel sinks, pressurized hot and cold water, pressurized salt water, a 120‑volt AC microwave, AC/DC and engine‑driven refrigeration with a cold plate, and a propane stove with oven. Interior teak joinery showcases top‑tier Finnish craftsmanship, with carefully matched grains finished in hand‑rubbed satin; cabinetry includes beveled glass inserts, and the inlaid dining table is a standout. Storage is abundant and well organized, with numerous opening ports, thoughtfully placed handholds, and large deck hatches—hallmarks of a bluewater deck‑saloon yacht.

Deck & hull: Construction quality is exemplary. The hull is hand‑laid with unidirectional and mat roving over end‑grain balsa core. Gelcoat is hand‑brushed to minimize entrapped air that can compromise water resistance and promote blistering. Bilge stringers and engine beds are aluminum, bonded to the hull and sheathed with unidirectional glass; the mast step is stainless steel. High‑load areas receive additional unidirectional reinforcement. The deck uses an end‑grain balsa sandwich with solid laminate under through‑bolted deck hardware. The original teak decks were removed—about 3,000 screws—then the substrate was filled and faired, and new PermaTeak decks were laid, yielding a fresh look and worry‑free footing for decades.

Sails & rigging: Custom Rondal in‑mast hydraulic furling mainsail system, completely rebuilt in 2024. Hydraulic furling genoa, rebuilt in 2018 and serviced in 2023. Inventory includes a 130% genoa, a 155% genoa, two vertical‑battened mains (one Dyneema, the newest, and one composite), one asymmetrical spinnaker, two symmetrical spinnakers (one for light air and one for heavy air, all in socks), one hank‑on jib, and a storm sail. Rod standing rigging was renewed in 2011, with Spectra running rigging updated in 2017—an offshore‑ready package for a performance cruiser.

Mechanical & electrical: Main engine is a Volvo 100 hp unit replaced in 2000 with approximately 4,400 hours, with primary engine controls in the pilothouse and remote controls at the wheel. An 8 kW Westabeke genset shows about 825 hours, with the generator section replaced in 2018. House batteries include twenty‑four‑volt and twelve‑volt banks plus a dedicated twelve‑volt start battery, supported by a 3,500‑watt inverter/charger and a separate twelve‑volt charger. Shore power is thirty amps with cordage included. Tankage consists of a 100‑gallon stainless fuel tank and a 200‑gallon water tank. A 110‑volt hot‑water heater is plumbed for engine heat exchange. The galley has fresh‑ and salt‑water pressure faucets. A PYI feathering prop was rebuilt by PYI in 2023. Ground tackle includes a Lofrans windlass with wireless remote (new remote unit in 2022), a Danforth anchor with 200 feet of chain rode, plus a second anchor with 25 feet of chain and 100 feet of rope. An Espar heating system enhances comfort for cold‑weather passages.

Miscellaneous: An 8‑foot inflatable tender with a 2 hp Yanmar outboard is included. Electronics are Raymarine: an E125 chartplotter with ST60 wind and depth/speed at the pilothouse station; an E7 chartplotter at the binnacle; and ST60 wind and depth/speed in the cockpit. Additional gear includes Raymarine digital radar, Class B AIS, a CTEK autopilot with binnacle remote, VHF with binnacle remote mic, and SSB. A new microwave was added in 2022 and a new Force 10 galley stove in 2024. The entertainment system features an LCD TV, VCR, and mast‑mounted antenna. All lighting has been upgraded to LEDs.

History: Owner one built and sailed the yacht in Finland and across Europe from 1989 to 1995. Owner two moved her to the West Coast of the USA from 1995 to 2001. The present third owner trucked the boat to Woods Hole, Massachusetts, in 2001, where she remains based, and has sailed and raced extensively along the U.S. East Coast from Maine to Florida, the Bahamas, and Cuba, logging over 70,000 sea miles. Summers have been spent out of Woods Hole, MA, with eighteen winters in Florida, the Keys, and the Bahamas.
