Detailed Description

Overview

The Krogen 52' presents an elegant asymmetrical deck arrangement, carrying the port side of the main deck out to the sheer while the starboard side delivers a very wide walkaround protected by a hip-high bulwark. An aluminum Dutch door opens directly to the galley, and both the side deck and aft deck are fully covered with a solid teak sole for warmth underfoot and enduring traction.

From the starboard side deck, molded fiberglass steps lead forward to the Portuguese bridge and foredeck. Port and starboard wing stations simplify close-quarters maneuvering, while the Portuguese bridge offers generous storage. Aluminum Dutch doors on both sides provide pilothouse access, and a wide door invites an easy transition to the foredeck.

The foredeck incorporates seating and storage just forward of the Portuguese bridge, with high bulwarks and stainless-steel rails enhancing safety underway. A Freeman aluminum hatch to port of the bow pulpit grants access to the chain locker and additional storage, keeping ground tackle organized and secure.

Aft of the pilothouse, molded steps to port ascend to the boat deck and flybridge, encircled by high stainless-steel rails for confidence at sea. The boat deck accommodates the tender and hydraulic crane, joined by a summer kitchen and access to the under flybridge storage, streamlining daily operations and extended cruising routines.

Further molded fiberglass steps lead to the flybridge, where L-shaped seating and a table create a convivial vantage point opposite twin Stidd chairs and an upper helm console that places command at the captain’s fingertips. This platform underscores the yacht’s bluewater capability while remaining easily handled by a cruising couple, and its generous accommodations welcome both owners and guests in comfort. Designed for extended periods away from the dock, the efficient hull form delivers true ocean-crossing capability, excellent handling, and notable sea kindliness. A complete hydraulic package—including bow and stern thrusters, windlass, and stabilizers—enhances control and comfort, and the yacht is presented turnkey ready.

Construction

Crafted from high-grade female tooling, the hull is finished in USA-made Cook® gelcoat and laid up by hand with Knytex® fiberglass for strength and precision. The topsides employ a closed-cell PVC sandwich core, while the hull below the waterline is solid fiberglass, and the first two laminates beneath the waterline are infused with blister-resistant vinylester resin and reinforced with aramid fiber/FRP for enduring integrity. The superstructure integrates Knytex® and mat with Corecell® cores and surface mats, minimizing print-through while enhancing stiffness and weight efficiency. On deck, teak graces the aft and side areas, with a GripTex® non-skid finish applied to the boat deck and foredeck for secure footing. Molded bulwarks carry refined plank lines and a gelcoat finish, and all hull-to-deck and boat-deck joints, along with exterior fittings, are sealed with polyurethane-formulated marine sealants to ensure watertight durability. Inside, marine-grade plywood bulkheads are tied into molded fiberglass hat-section stringers, and the interior is meticulously handcrafted in solid teak with complementary teak veneers, delivering a warm, yacht-quality finish.

Saloon

Entered through double weather-tight aluminum doors, the saloon unfolds as a bright and breezy haven, its natural light and ventilation enhanced by large opening screened windows to port, starboard, and aft, with a retractable screen fitted to the entry doors for effortless airflow. Custom shades and valances dress every window with tailored elegance. To starboard, a large L-shaped settee pairs with an expandable hi-lo freestanding table, while a Samsung flat-screen TV rises discreetly from behind the settee to create a seamless entertainment experience. To port, two leather recliners invite relaxation, and generous storage is thoughtfully integrated throughout the space. Completing the refined ambiance, matching granite is used on all horizontal surfaces for a cohesive, upscale finish.

Galley

Set forward of the saloon, the in-line galley with breakfast bar is thoughtfully arranged for effortless entertaining and everyday ease, with a separate entrance from the starboard side deck via a Dutch aluminum door. Refined finishes, including a tile floor and a glass backsplash, elevate the space with understated sophistication. Culinary equipment includes a JennAir French-door refrigerator with drawer freezer and ice maker, an Isotherm supplemental freezer located in the open office, a BlueStar four-burner propane stove and oven, a JennAir convection microwave oven, and a GE dishwasher. An Elkay double stainless-steel sink with a Grohe fixture is complemented by a filtered water spigot, a garbage disposal, and a trash drawer with two bins, while a pantry with a pull-out drawer keeps provisions neatly organized.

Office

Situated down and forward of the saloon and galley, the open office offers generous desk space and well-considered storage, including a locking drawer, a file drawer, and a cabinet. Large opening ports provide abundant natural light and ventilation, creating a bright, breezy workspace.

Guest stateroom and ensuite head

Opposite the open office to starboard awaits the guest stateroom, with its ensuite head positioned forward, while directly across from the guest cabin the dedicated laundry area features a stacked Bosch washer. The stateroom is thoughtfully appointed with twin berths, a hanging locker, four large opening ports, and excellent drawer and cabinet storage to keep personal items neatly organized. The ensuite continues the theme of refined practicality with a vanity, a medicine cabinet, a tile floor, and a large stall shower enhanced by an opening port and a glass shower door.

Master stateroom and ensuite

Forward, the spacious master stateroom welcomes you, with the entrance to the ensuite head set to port as you step inside. A centerline queen-size berth anchors the suite, complemented by two hanging lockers and generous storage throughout. Natural light and ventilation abound through four large opening ports and two overhead hatches fitted with Oceanair shades and screens, while a large mirrored vanity adds a refined touch. The ensuite is appointed with a vanity served by its own opening port, a tile floor underfoot, and a large stall shower with a molded seat and a glass shower door, supplemented by an additional opening port for fresh air.

Pilothouse

Set up and forward of the saloon and galley, the ship-like pilothouse grants the captain commanding views while inviting guests to settle into generous seating. At the helm, two Stidd chairs serve captain and mate, complemented by a large L-shaped leather settee and an expandable table for guests. Opening screened windows to port and to starboard, aluminum Dutch doors to port and to starboard, and an opening port usher in excellent natural ventilation, while a black headliner is particularly well-suited for nighttime passages. It is also the perfect spot for morning coffee.

Machinery and mechanicals

Power comes from twin Tier III John Deere 4045AFM85 engines mated to ZF Marine gears with a 2.917:1 ratio and managed with ZF Mathers Cruise Command four-station engine controls. ABT hydraulic stabilizers, serviced with new seals 6/25, deliver composed motion control, while an ABT® 25hp hydraulic bow thruster and an ABT® 15hp hydraulic stern thruster, both with proportional controls at all four stations, make close-quarters handling effortless. Running gear confidence is furthered by Shaft Shark line cutters, Tides dripless shaft seals, and props tuned and balanced 6/25. Fuel care and lubrication are expertly handled by an ESI® fuel polishing system, dual Racor® fuel filters with vacuum gauges for main engines and generators, and a Reverso® oil change system plumbed to both engines, transmissions, and generators. Safety is addressed by a Sea Fire® automatic fire suppression system and Fireboy Xintex CO detectors, while electrical charging is ensured by dual Balmar hi-output alternators (190-amp and 60-amp) with external smart regulators. Engine-room environment is optimized by Mannship engine-room moisture eliminators with biaxial variable, hi-speed fans, complemented by engine room intake and exhaust fans with moisture eliminators. Endurance at sea is supported by a Village Marine 800-GPD water maker with remote panel and auto flush, a Raritan 20-gallon water heater, a Johnson variable speed 24V DC freshwater pump, and a Headhunter 120V AC freshwater pump. Bilge management is comprehensive, with five Rule bilge pumps rated at 3,700 GPH with Ultra high-water alarm at two stations, two Whale Gulper dry pumps with Ultra Jr. switches, and an emergency bilge pump tied into the raw-water intake on the main engine. Exhaust is quieted by Centek fiberglass mufflers. Fuel is carried in four aluminum tanks with sight gauges, monitored via a highly polished stainless-steel panel mounted on the fuel tanks to permit ease of viewing for inspections on the outboard of both John Deere engines, while waste systems include a 140-gallon fiberglass black-water tank with macerator and a 140-gallon fiberglass grey-water tank with macerator.

Electrical

The yacht’s electrical system is anchored by a Northern Lights® 12kW generator with sound shield (2199 hours), complemented by a Northern Lights® 6kW generator (1213 hours) equipped with Magnum automatic generator start. Shore-based power is managed by a Glendenning shore-power retrieval system feeding a 240-volt Charles isolation boost transformer, while charging and inversion are handled by a Charles 60-amp battery charger and a Magnum Energy 4,000-watt inverter/charger. Energy storage is robust, with four Lifeline AGM 12-volt batteries wired in series for 24V DC engine starting, two Lifeline AGM 12-volt batteries dedicated to generator starting, and eight Lifeline AGM 6-volt, 400-Ah batteries wired in series for 24V DC ships service (new 6/25).

Pilothouse and flybridge electronics

In the pilothouse, command centers on twin Garmin 8530 black-box chartplotter systems paired with two Garmin GMM190 19-inch Glass Helm monitors and a Garmin GMR624xHD2 open-array 6 kW HD radar, all governed with precision by a Garmin GHP 20 Reactor autopilot with Shadow Drive and a Garmin GHC 20 marine autopilot control display. Navigation intelligence is further enriched by a Garmin GPS 19x Receiver, a Garmin GSD 24 digital black box network sounder, and a Garmin GXM 52 XM weather receiver/antenna, while control remains effortlessly at hand via the Garmin Remote Input Device Keypad (GRID) mounted on the STIDD helm chair armrest. Clear communications come from a Garmin VHF 300 marine radio with a remote at the master stateroom, a hailer with horn, and a Garmin VHF 200 remote at the pilothouse complementing the main unit on the flybridge, with situational awareness enhanced by an Em-Trak B100 AIS transceiver, a Ritchie compass, and a VDO rudder angle indicator. Data is elegantly presented on three Garmin GMI 20 four-inch display multifunction units, while four Garmin GC 10 marine cameras—including reverse-image cameras mounted at the cockpit arch for aft viewing and two in the engine room—together with a FLIR 625L thermal low-light and infrared camera, display on a dedicated Samsung 19-inch monitor. The suite is rounded out by a Maretron multifunction display with Maretron MConnect remote monitoring, an ultrasonic wind/weather station, a Wi‑Fi hotspot amplifier, a Starlink system for robust connectivity, and entertainment courtesy of a Fusion AM/FM/Bluetooth/SiriusXM stereo system with JL speakers in the cockpit, saloon, pilothouse, and flybridge with volume controls, complemented by a Bose Lifestyle V25 home system and a Samsung flat-screen TV.

On the flybridge, a Garmin GPSMAP 7616 16-inch touchscreen chartplotter works in concert with a Garmin GHC 20 marine autopilot control display and three Garmin GMI 20 marine displays, all supported by Garmin GPS 19x antennas for crisp positional data. Communications are assured by a Garmin VHF 200 marine radio with a remote to the pilothouse, flanked by two VHF antennas with one mounted on each side and secured by two Rupp PAK00005 mounts, while a Ritchie compass, a VDO rudder angle indicator, and a Fusion music system controller complete the bridge’s intuitive command environment.

Additional components

Refinement runs stem to stern, beginning with i2Systems LED lighting throughout, complemented by all exterior lighting in LED. Safety is bolstered by three collision bulkheads, while climate control is assured by four-zone CruiseAir reverse-cycle A/C and heat with remotely mounted compressors and SMXht control panels throughout. Ground tackle is handled by a Maxwell horizontal hydraulic windlass and a Maxwell anchor remote-control station with a chain counter at the pilothouse and flybridge, serving a 45 kg Ultra Quickset anchor on 300' of 3/8" Hi-Test chain, plus an 88 lb Delta secondary anchor with 130' of HT chain and a 300' nylon rode; dedicated anchor washdown spigots deliver both saltwater and freshwater. On the boat deck, a Steelhead ES1000 electric-hydraulic davit system, with new hydraulic lines, 3/25, services a 13' AB RIB powered by a 60 hp Yamaha, while a radar arch crowns the profile and a Kahlenberg ship’s horn system with automatic fog signals ensures authority underway. A Freeman watertight foredeck hatch, color-matched to the deck gelcoat, secures the anchor locker, and bow shore-power inlets add dockside convenience. Custom canvas covers for the windows, flybridge, cockpit, and tender—new in 2024—join a bimini top, also new in 2024, and custom Sunbrella exterior seating cushions to elevate comfort and protection. Practical touches abound, including stainless-steel stern staples, a cockpit shower, LED flybridge and boat deck lighting, and custom stainless-steel handrails, while storm plate receptacles are in place (hardware only).
