Overview
Price adjusted ahead of winter layup—an opportunity you won’t want to miss.
Storyteller, a US-built Manta 42 Mk IV cruising catamaran, was conceived for distance sailing, delivering comfort and security offshore. Her engineering is intelligently executed and detailed below. Beneath the waterline, the hulls are solid GRP infused with vinylester resin, while Kevlar reinforcement in the bows and keel zones adds notable strength and rigidity. Structural areas for thru-hulls, chainplates, and deck hardware are also solid glass. Above the waterline, the hulls are Divinycell-cored, and subsoles and bulkheads use Nida-Core—premium, closed-cell composites that resist moisture intrusion, lighten the structure, and enhance longevity and safety.
In short, she looks after you—and your investment.
A proven bluewater voyager, Storyteller shines at long stints on the hook. Three 370W solar panels feed ample power for daily needs—fridge, freezer, and watermaker—so you can skip the generator entirely. She’s genuinely self-sufficient, perfect for liveaboard life and off-grid adventure.
Lovingly maintained and consistently upgraded by informed owners, she needs only your provisions before you set a course south this fall.
If winter cruising is on your list, now is the moment. She’s ready to cast off.
Notable features include:
- Two owners since new; never chartered
- Fully outfitted for extended time away from marinas (off-grid cruising)
- Dinghy and outboard included; 20 HP Tohatsu with power tilt/electric start (new 2024)

Detailed Description
Description
Just reduced until she is winterized—this is the moment to move. Storyteller, a Manta 42 Mk IV built in the USA, was conceived to travel far and to bring you there with composure, comfort, and remarkable safety. Below the waterline her wetted surfaces are solid GRP with vinylester resin, while Kevlar is additionally woven into the bow and keel areas for formidable strength and rigidity. In high-load zones around thru‑hulls, chainplates, and deck hardware, the layup is likewise solid GRP. Above the waterline the hull is cored with Divinycell, and the subsoles and bulkheads are cored with Nida‑Core—premium, closed‑cell materials that resist moisture intrusion, preserve structural integrity, and extend the life and safety of the yacht. In other words, she protects you and your investment.
A proven cruising veteran, Storyteller is optimized for long, blissfully independent stints on the hook. Three 370 W LG solar panels, paired with two Victron 100/50 SmartSolar charge controllers (both new in 2021), comfortably power the refrigerator, freezer, and daily house loads and even support regular watermaker use, all without running the generator. She has been continuously maintained and thoughtfully upgraded by owners who understand what a serious cruising boat needs—she awaits only your personal provisioning to head south this fall. If you want to cruise this winter, act now; she is ready and waiting.
Notable highlights underscore why this Manta stands out: only two owners from new and never chartered; fully outfitted for extended time away from marinas; a complete tender package including dinghy and a Tohatsu 20 HP outboard with power tilt and electric start, new in 2024; a Strataglass dodger and covers new in 2023, with drop curtains for the cockpit; Schaefer in‑boom furling and a Neil Pryde mainsail new in 2020, complemented by a North Sails jib new in 2023; a full electronics refresh in 2022 including plotter, radar, autopilot and a SiriusXM receiver; solar array and dual Victron SmartSolar controllers new in 2021; and a brand‑new, still‑packaged spare watermaker membrane added in 2024.
Overview
Accommodations aboard the Manta 42 elicit an immediate sense of “just wow.” Step inside and the salon and galley unfold on a single, luminous level, flooded with daylight from expansive windows that lend a cheery ambiance and deliver everything you truly need within easy reach. The sleeping quarters and heads are smartly distributed in each hull, combining generous volume with abundant storage and excellent engine access. Reverse‑cycle heat and air conditioning run throughout the yacht, powered either by shore power or the generator while at anchor, ensuring year‑round comfort under way or on the hook.
In the salon, a watertight, locking Bomar Lexan cockpit door pairs with a self‑retracting Phantom Screen, and two Bomar overhead hatches carry Oceanair screen/shade systems. Forward, 180‑degree sightlines sweep through Lexan windows shaded by Manta’s custom exterior louvers. Immediately inside the cockpit door you’ll find a tall hanging wet‑locker with a large storage cabinet above. The L‑shaped settee is broad and inviting around an adjustable Swanstone table, and the atmosphere is enriched by a stereo system with SiriusXM radio, a CD player, and Bose speakers serving both salon and cockpit. The nav station is properly equipped with an Icom VHF and Raymarine wireless autopilot control, a battery monitor plus a Magnum energy monitor, white and red night‑vision lighting, and an oversized nav‑table with deep storage. A custom electrical panel below the nav table commands all 12 VDC and 110 VAC systems, and every Bomar Ocean hatch is dressed with retracting Oceanair screen/shades. Sunbrella upholstery and no‑maintenance synthetic teak & holly soles complete the look, and multiple GFI outlets are thoughtfully placed.
The U‑shaped galley is purpose‑built for seagoing cooking, featuring an oversized stainless‑steel sink, a commercial‑grade faucet, and ample Swanstone countertop space. A ForceTen three‑burner propane stove with oven and broiler sits above a dedicated storage cabinet, with a range hood providing a 12 V exhaust fan and lighting. The built‑in microwave is convenient for quick prep, while the top‑loading refrigerator and freezer offer 10 cu ft of capacity behind 6" of insulation. Individual Swanstone hinged lids convert into a huge continuous work surface when closed, and individual digital thermostats control the refrigerator and freezer independently. Storage is generous and smartly segmented, including a bread locker, an integrated trash compartment, and dedicated countertop stowage for a toaster and coffee maker, with multiple GFI outlets to suit.
Sleeping quarters and heads are laid out for privacy and practicality: the owner’s queen stateroom and owner’s head occupy the port side, while the starboard side hosts a second queen stateroom, a shared head, and a single berth. Both staterooms and the single berth feature 6‑inch foam mattresses, teak louvered doors, large cedar‑lined hanging lockers, and multiple drawer and cabinet units. The port companionway is lined with a large pantry, built‑in bookcases, and storage cabinets; the starboard companionway carries additional built‑in bookcases. Removable fiddle rails secure items on all shelves throughout the boat for safety underway. Each head is fitted with a Jabsco Quiet‑Flush electric seawater toilet, Swanstone countertops and sinks, and a separate shower enclosure with Jabsco shower sump pumps. The owner’s head adds a large medicine cabinet, a wooden shower seat, one opening Bomar port and a Bomar hatch—both with screens and Oceanair shades—while the shared head carries one opening Bomar port with a screen and Oceanair shade. Each stateroom enjoys two opening Bomar ports and a Bomar hatch with screens and Oceanair shades; the single berth also has an opening Bomar port and a Bomar hatch, both screened and shaded. All interior doors are louvered teak, with interior woods in ash, cherry, and teak throughout, and multiple GFI outlets where you want them.
Storyteller’s cockpit is one of the finest—equally at home entertaining or passagemaking. Manta’s exclusive welded anodized aluminum full cockpit enclosure integrates a radar arch and a walkable fiberglass hard top, while a clear Bomar helm hatch allows easy mainsail trim checks. The Strataglass dodger, new in 2023 with Sunbrella sun covers, features a center section that zips open for airflow, and a partial enclosure uses roll‑up isinglass side panels with a removable rear panel. The 8 ft‑wide radar arch incorporates Manta’s signature sling seat—brilliantly fun and genuinely comfortable—plus robust dinghy davits. Storage abounds with three locking fiberglass boxes and two additional lockers beneath the cockpit seat. A full suite of cockpit cushions and seat backrests (new in 2018 and 2023), a Magma propane grill, a propane tank locker, and a stowable cocktail table elevate livability, while the elevated Pompano captain’s chair/footrest delivers commanding 360‑degree views. White and red LED lighting at the helm preserves night vision, and all sail and engine controls are led to the helm for true single‑handed operation.
The sail plan and rig are tuned for serious cruising ease. A Neil Pryde six‑full‑batten Dacron mainsail (2020) works in concert with a Schaefer Gamma roller‑furling boom (2020) and a custom mainsail cover (2020). The anodized aluminum US Spars mast carries a spreader and two folding mast steps, while forward a North Sails self‑tacking NPC Cross‑Cut Nordac jib (2023) with three full battens and a Camberspar pocket honors Manta’s original specifications. The Camberspar system, lazy jacks, and a jib downhaul streamline handling, and a North Sails Code 0 with sail bag extends the light‑air range. An extra main halyard and a dedicated spinnaker halyard, both with roller reefing and position control lines, complement stainless‑steel standing rigging and a complete suite of Harken running hardware. Port and starboard flag halyards are fitted, and again, all sail and engine controls converge at the helm for single‑handed sailing. Eight Spinlock line clutches service sheets, halyards, and furling lines, supported by a Harken 44.2‑ST electric two‑speed self‑tailing winch and a manual Harken 44.2 two‑speed winch dedicated to the Code 0 sheets.
Navigation is modern and intuitive: a Raymarine Axiom Plus 12" MFD chartplotter pairs with a Raymarine Pilot EV‑200 autopilot and a Raymarine RD424HD 24" 4 kW digital radar dome. Two Raymarine i70S multifunction displays provide at‑a‑glance data, while a Raymarine RAYE70499 SiriusXM info link receiver supplies weather and information. A Raymarine Class B AIS transceiver enhances situational awareness, and the depth/speed/temp tridata sensor is removable in the port bilge for service. Navionics North American electronic charts are current through 2024. Communications are handled by an Icom VHF transceiver with a wired mic in the salon and a wired Commandmic at the helm, and an 8" Ritchie Navigator binnacle compass stands ready as your timeless reference.
The build is resolutely robust. Hull, deck, bulkheads, and sub‑sole employ triaxial, biaxial, and unidirectional fiberglass with vinylester and isophthalic resins. The hull and deck are cored with Divinycell, and subsoles and bulkheads are cored with Nida‑Core; all are vacuum bagged for stiffness and strength. Below the waterline, wetted surfaces are solid GRP with vinylester resin, and Kevlar is added in the bow and keel areas for extra rigidity. Around thru‑hulls, chainplates, and deck hardware the construction is solid GRP, and all deck hardware is thru‑bolted to aluminum backing plates laminated in place. Thru‑hulls and seacocks are non‑corrosive Marelon, with the exception of brass engine raw‑water intakes. The hull‑to‑deck joint is reinforced with 360‑degree unidirectional laminates into a true monocoque; bonded with 3M 5200 marine adhesive/sealant, it is finished with mechanical fasteners and a heavy‑duty vinyl rub rail. Twin high‑density foam/fiberglass rudders spin on 2" solid stainless‑steel stocks and include emergency tiller rigging. Throughout the exterior, stanchions, handrails, cleats, opening ports and hatches, hinges, chain plates, anchor roller, and fuel and water fills are 316 stainless steel, and all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems are designed and installed in accordance with ABYC standards.
Electrical systems are designed for redundancy and autonomy: twin 30 A 110 V shore‑power connections use SmartPlug connectors, feeding a MagnaSine 2000 W inverter‑charger. A NextGen 5.5 kW diesel generator sits in a sound shield within the port bow locker. Each engine carries a 115 A alternator (two total), while three 370 W LG solar panels and two Victron 100/50 solar charge controllers keep batteries topped up; a Victron BMV‑712 smart battery monitor displays system status. There are 2 x External Balmar voltage regulator on each engine, plus a Balmar duo‑charge. Protection includes 12/120 V marine surge protectors and a Prosafe zinc saver. A custom electrical panel provides digital volt and amp meters for both 12 V and 110 V systems. House power comes from six 6 V flooded‑cell batteries wired series‑parallel to form three 12 V banks, supported by two 12 V start batteries—one per engine—with switches to isolate or parallel any combination as needed. Shore‑power gear includes two 50" 30 A 120 V cords and a 50 A to 2 x 30 A Y connector. Lighting is efficient and night‑friendly: LED running lights, an anchor light, and a foredeck floodlight (with a halogen steaming light), 12 V Taylorbrite interior lighting with a salon dimmer, a white/red LED helm light, Taylorbrite cockpit lights, and red courtesy lighting in the passageways and salon. Ventilation is excellent thanks to Hella 12 V fans in each cabin, head, and galley.
Anchoring and docking hardware inspires confidence: dual anchor rollers on the bow lead a 55# Mantus primary on 200' of galvanized chain, and a 45# Delta reserve anchor on 200' of chain. A Maxwell 1500 windlass with foredeck switches handles the heavy lifting. A 15' anchor bridle with Wichard chain hooks secures to bow eye bolts below deck level for improved scope; a Mantus 10‑ton mooring hook with dedicated mooring lines is aboard as well. Fenders include four large and four medium units plus two fender boards, and several double‑braid dock lines from 80' down to 40' round out the package.
Mechanical and plumbing systems are cruiser‑correct. Propulsion is via two Volvo D1‑30 diesels with about 2000 hours each, spinning Volvo 130S saildrives rigged with counter‑rotating props, all controlled by two single‑lever engine controls and monitored on twin Volvo tachometers and an LCD engine status screen. Twin Flexofold three‑blade props (new 2020) enable single‑engine motoring at 6 knots and two‑engine speeds around 7.5 knots. Ship’s power is augmented by a NextGen 5.5 kW diesel genset with 650 hours. Serviceability is excellent with Reverso oil drain/fill pumps on each engine and the genset, and an RCI‑Puratec central in‑line or recycle‑mode fuel‑polishing system serving the Volvo mains and the Kubota‑based genset. Climate control comes from a Dometic Turbo 16000 BTU reverse‑cycle heat pump (new in 2023) serving the salon and forward hulls, plus a Cruisair 10000 BTU reverse‑cycle heat pump serving both aft cabins; the system runs on shore power or the generator. Freshwater independence is assured by a Village Marine Little Wonder 12 V watermaker producing 8 gph (overhauled in 2021), and domestic hot water is delivered by an Isotemp 11 gal heater energized by the starboard engine’s coolant loop or 110 VAC.
The tender package is dialed‑in: an AB 10.5' RIB with a removable storage box and a custom Sunbrella cover (2016), pushed smartly by a Tohatsu four‑stroke 20 hp outboard with electric start and power trim (2024). A Navisafe dinghy navigation light kit and a Novabraid tow bridle with painter are included.
Safety gear is comprehensive: an EPIRB, current flares plus some recently expired spares, an electronic flare, multiple PFDs, a Type IV life ring, a heaving line, both electronic and mechanical sound‑signaling devices, and an emergency tiller. Miscellaneous inventory thoughtfully completes the cruising brief with flatware, drinkware, silverware, and cookware for the galley; service spares for the engines and genset (oil and fuel filters, impellers, etc.); a broad array of additional spares including pumps, blowers, plumbing, electrical, and rigging parts; and a new‑in‑package 2024 replacement membrane for the watermaker.
