Detailed Description
Introduction
Tara Jeanne is an exceptional semi-custom 'DownEast' express cruiser that is sure to capture your heart with her stunning lines and impressive performance, cruising at speeds approaching 30 knots. As the most recent and only Wolf Class 44 built at Morris Yachts, she stands out in every way. Her classic good looks are complemented by modern amenities and features that are highly sought after in today's market. With twin CAT 660hp diesels, she offers a fast cruising speed, while twin engines and a bow thruster ensure ease of maneuvering around the dock. The bridge deck provides protected and comfortable seating for three to four couples, featuring Stidd pedestal chairs, including a double, and generous settees. The large and functional cockpit is equipped with a wet bar, full beam transom seating, and built-in side boarding steps. Inside, the yacht boasts a legitimate cruising interior with a large head and separate stall shower, a lower dinette lounge, a full galley, and a private cabin forward with an island berth.
Unlike her sister ships, Tara Jeanne has additional freeboard of approximately 2.25 inches, allowing for a considerably larger engine package and a raised bridge deck that offers exceptional sightlines for the helmsperson and sea views for her fortunate passengers. The upgraded engines provide power, speed, and handling that cannot be overstated. For instance, the boat is capable of cruising at 22 knots on a single engine. With both engines engaged, she easily cruises at speeds of 27-28 knots, with a maximum speed exceeding 33 knots. This additional torque, combined with a substantial full trim weight of nearly 36,000 pounds, enables Tara Jeanne to perform like a 12-cylinder touring car while riding like a Mack truck through challenging seas. She is truly a sight to behold, and we consider this vessel among the very best riding powerboats we have ever experienced.
Tara Jeanne is now offered for sale for the first time by her original owners, who have spared no expense in maintaining the vessel in top condition. Carefully cared for at Bristol Marine for over twenty years, the history, pedigree, and lines of this fine yacht make her truly special and sure to turn heads in every harbor.
Design elements and construction details
The Morris Wolf Class 44 is a masterpiece from Paine Yacht Design, redefining the contemporary Maine express cruiser. This yacht is not a mere replica; it boasts sweeping lines, a distinctive profile, and a smooth-riding hull. Its Downeast origins are evident in the long, graceful profile and prominent, upturned bow, reminiscent of the classic Bunker and Ellis woodies built on Mount Desert Island years ago. However, the hull shape is thoroughly modern, featuring a warped "V" design with a very fine forward entry for wave penetration. This flattens out to a 7.5-degree deadrise angle at the transom, with "hard" chines to prevent roll and a partial skeg for excellent tracking and protection of the running gear. This design results in better performance and fuel economy at lower speeds compared to a true deep "Vee" hull, while still providing a smooth and capable ride at 27 knots in challenging conditions.
The hull skins are meticulously hand-laid with Vinylester resin above the waterline using E-glass, while the bottom skins incorporate both E-glass and Kevlar. The hull is cored with Corecell non-water absorbing foam of 1-inch thickness and varying densities, with core material eliminated in areas of hull penetrations and reinforced sections such as the propeller struts, shaft logs, and rudder posts, as well as along the hull centerline. The deck is cored with both balsa and foam cores, using E-glass and polyester resin, except for the bridge deck, which is laminated with carbon fiber skins. Individual molds were employed for the bridge deck seats, cockpit furniture, and cockpit sides, all bonded with epoxy. The hull-to-deck joint is permanently bonded with 3M 5200 and through-bolted every 8 inches on center. Additionally, the toe rail is bedded and attached through this joint using self-tapping screws at 8 inches on center. This high-tech and robust construction ensures durability and performance.
Colors and deck details
The yacht boasts a striking "Morris Blue" Awlgrip finish on the topsides, accentuated by an inset gold cove stripe, a single white boot stripe, and a green bottom. The decks are elegantly finished in Awlgrip "Off White," with a contrasting "Moondust" Awlgrip sprayed nonskid surface. All exterior surfaces were repainted in 2023, ensuring a fresh and pristine appearance. The exterior cushions are classic white, highlighted by contrasting dark blue piping, adding a touch of sophistication.
The deck is equipped with a custom stainless steel bow pulpit and spray rails, enhancing both functionality and style. A custom stainless steel stem head with an anchor roller and stainless steel anchor is fitted, complemented by a Lewmar Ocean 2 electric anchor windlass with footswitches on deck and remote control at the helm. The Suncor 45lb stainless anchor is paired with a 3/8-inch high test chain and 5/8-inch New England Ropes rode, ensuring secure anchoring. Bow chocks are inset into the toe rail, and an anchor washdown spigot is conveniently located on the foredeck.
The exterior features solid teak varnished bright, including toe rails, eyebrows, handrails, dorade boxes, windshield, cockpit cap rails, transom, and bridge deck settee seat backs, as well as bridge deck trim. The yacht is equipped with eight bronze chromed opening port lights with screens, and four dorade vents with stainless cowls, painted white inside with Awlgrip, and sliding interior vent closures. Additionally, there are four fenders with covers, six Herreshoff style stainless cleats, and assorted dock lines, ensuring the yacht is both well-equipped and visually stunning.
Bridge deck
The bridge deck of this yacht is a marvel of design and functionality, capable of being lifted hydraulically to provide easy access to the engine room. The windshield is a true work of art, featuring a custom varnished teak three-panel design with a center opening panel and pantograph-style windshield wipers equipped with Exalto intelligent controls. The sailboat-style companionway is crafted with a teak sliding hatch and bi-fold doors, adding a touch of classic elegance. The helm is located to starboard, featuring a twin Stidd pedestal chair, while across to port, there is a Stidd companion pedestal chair and a navigator’s desk. Both Stidd chairs have been luxuriously recovered in Ultraleather 2025, ensuring comfort and style.
Aft to port, you will find a generous L-settee with storage beneath, accompanied by a custom convertible teak table. Across to starboard, there is a straight settee, also with storage beneath. Both settees are enhanced with solid teak backrests, providing both comfort and a touch of sophistication.
The convertible bimini soft top is crafted in a traditional "Toast" Sunbrella color over a stainless frame, offering both style and durability. The front portion of the bimini, which attaches to the windshield, can be removed to provide additional ventilation. For those times when you desire a fully enclosed space, side curtains and three-piece aft drop curtains are available to completely enclose the bridge deck.
Cockpit
The cockpit of this yacht is designed with both functionality and elegance in mind. It features a built-in athwartship transom settee with a massive solid teak backrest, providing ample storage beneath. A custom wet bar is positioned forward to port, equipped with a large insulated ice box, a stainless steel sink, and cabinet storage, making it perfect for entertaining. Generous L-shaped teak steps, large enough to sit on, offer easy access to the raised bridge deck as well as the side decks. Raised gunwales with varnished teak caps run the length of the cockpit, offering additional protection from any spray or water that may make its way onto the deck.
The cockpit is self-bailing and includes a hot and cold shower for convenience. Storage lockers are cleverly integrated under the coamings and beneath the transom settee, while courtesy lights under the coamings add a touch of ambiance. The teak bridge deck and side deck boarding steps enhance both the aesthetic and functionality of the space. A saltwater washdown system is available for easy cleaning, and a fiberglass swim platform with teak decking and a telescoping swim ladder beneath provides easy access to the water.
For those who enjoy fishing, the cockpit is equipped with five rod holders, including one on the centerline aft. The Bette Fleming varnished teak staff for the ensign on the transom adds a classic touch. Sole hatches provide access to the running gear and additional storage, ensuring that everything you need is within reach. Shelving runs along each berth, with additional storage space beneath.
The main salon is a welcoming space, featuring a C-shaped settee and dinette to starboard, centered around a stunning cherry table. The Navy Blue cushions beautifully complement the Herreshoff-style interior, characterized by white bulkheads accented with solid cherry trim and panels. These panels frame multiple opening ports, adding to the airy feel. The galley, located to port and forward, is equipped with a stainless steel sink, ample drawer storage, refrigeration, and a built-in microwave oven. Aft to port, the large and practical head includes a proper stall shower and a vanity with a sink.

To ensure a quiet and comfortable experience, the space is insulated with a double layer of thick lead foam insulation on the underside of the bridge deck. Powering the yacht are twin turbocharged CAT 3196E diesel engines, each delivering 660 horsepower, for a combined total of 1320 horsepower. These engines are paired with direct shaft drives, complete with props and rudders, ensuring reliable operation and ease of maintenance.
The yacht is equipped with two CAT 660HP 24v electronic diesel engines, controlled by Morse manual throttle and shift control levers. The CAT engine synchronizer can be operated from either the port or starboard engine, and both analogue and digital gauges are available at the helm for precise monitoring. The vessel features a slow mode for maneuvering in tight spaces, and Twin Disc transmissions with a trolling valve and dedicated throttle control. The 2.5-inch Aquamet-22 stainless steel shafts, Groco bronze sea strainers for the engines and generator, and Sidepower bow thruster with wireless remote further enhance the yacht's performance and handling. Fuel capacity is substantial, with 475 gallons distributed across three tanks: 165 gallons in the port tank, 165 gallons in the starboard tank, and 145 gallons in the mid tank. A SCAD tank monitor provides accurate readings of tank levels, ensuring you are always informed about your resources.

This comprehensive electrical system ensures that all onboard systems operate smoothly and efficiently, enhancing the overall experience on the water.
Helm electronics and navigation
The helm of this yacht is equipped with a comprehensive suite of electronics and navigation tools designed to enhance your maritime experience. At the heart of the navigation system is the Garmin GPS Map, providing precise location data and route planning. The yacht's stainless steel bow pulpit adds an extra layer of safety and security when navigating the deck. A propane shutoff solenoid and sniffer are included to detect and prevent any potential gas leaks, ensuring a safe environment on board.
For electrical safety and protection against lightning, a full-length copper bonding strip is integrated into the yacht's design.
