Detailed Description
Introduction
SIROCCO is an elegant, high‑performance, long‑range cruising ketch whose centerboard configuration (7'-2" with board up, 14' with board down) opens shallow harbors that are typically inaccessible to a yacht of her size. With 1200 gals. of fuel and 1400 gals. of water, she delivers a true go‑anywhere cruising range, while her Caterpillar diesel provides a comfortable 10 kt passage speed. She has been continually upgraded both cosmetically and mechanically, including new deck paint (2021), new hull paint (2021) and a Garmin touch‑screen chart system with HD radar and wind instruments, and she stands ready to range the world’s oceans in speed and comfort. Seriously for sale.
Accommodations
Forward, a well‑organized sail and gear locker of approximately 6' sets the tone for purposeful cruising, backed immediately by a collision bulkhead for added security. The owner’s stateroom occupies the forward section and is beautifully arranged—extremely light, airy and well‑ventilated—with a centerline queen berth, extensive drawer storage, a small settee, a linen storage locker and book stowage. Aft to starboard, a cedar‑lined hanging locker is followed by a mirrored vanity with swing‑out seating, dedicated drawer space and a hair‑dryer storage locker. To port, the owner’s head is finished in cherry with Corian countertops and features a small bath tub with aft shower, a stainless steel bidet, a Mansfield electric head and a teak grate.
Aft along the passageway to starboard are a hanging locker and an integrated shoe locker. Continuing aft to starboard, the guest stateroom is notably comfortable, offering a queen berth outboard, a four‑drawer inboard bureau, a built‑in Panasonic TV forward with bookshelves, a hanging locker and excellent storage both above and beneath the berth. An adjoining electric head provides a stall shower and Corian counters, with Formica bulkheads accented by cherry trim. Opposite to port, the second guest stateroom feels light and airy, ventilated by a Goiot hatch, and provides upper and lower double berths with storage behind as well as additional drawer space below; aft of this cabin lies its adjoining head with stall shower. Exiting via the centerline companionway—which can be closed by a door—two shallow steps lift you into the generous main saloon.
Throughout SIROCCO’s interior, rich cherry joinery is balanced by matte white overheads and solid teak and holly soles. The saloon is bathed in light and breeze from four large overhead hatches; L‑shaped settees lie to port and starboard, with a hi/lo extension dining table integrated into the starboard settee. Abundant lockers and drawers maximize stowage, a pilot berth hides behind the starboard settee, while the TV and stereo are housed behind the port settee. Aft and outboard of the port settee is liquor storage and, further aft, a built‑in bar with excellent drawer capacity. Next aft to starboard lies the galley, U‑shaped, forward‑facing and open to the saloon, with generous counter space and fiddles, outstanding storage, a top‑loading refrigerator with front‑door access, and a top‑loading freezer; the gimbaled stove is outboard and can be concealed by cherrywood drop panels. Equipment includes a Grunert 110v holding‑plate refrigerator/freezer, a Luke four‑burner propane stove with oven and broiler, a trash compactor, a garbage disposal, a microwave oven, hot water 60 gals and a 20 gal potable drinking water system.
On centerline adjacent to the galley, a passageway leads to the aft cockpit, and a watertight door behind the companionway provides access to the engine room. Beside the companionway sits a wet locker, while farther outboard a further double stateroom offers excellent storage and ventilation and can readily serve as crew quarters; forward of this stateroom is a head, and forward again lies the nav center. Up the companionway, the large aft cockpit features a substantial cockpit table with a centerline foot rest and is protected by a dodger and a bimini that can be united; engine room access sits under the starboard seat. On the foredeck, the anchoring arrangement is exceptional, with two large CQR anchors resting in chocks, the windlass set farther aft, and deep storage lockers to port and starboard of the sail locker; a large lazarette completes the aft deck.
Electronics
The yacht’s electronics suite is comprehensive and cruising‑ready, beginning with closed‑circuit cameras in the engine room and bilge with displays both at the nav center and at the helm, and a Robertson Dateline X instrument panel. Entertainment and monitoring include two 14" RCA TV/VCR combos and flat screen TVs (2008), complemented by a clock and barometer. Underway control and navigation are supported by a Robertson AP300 DLX autopilot and a Garmin 5212 touchscreen nav system with displays at the nav center and helm, an insulated backstay antenna for SSB, and Cap'n Elec. Charting & Ship Mgmt. An updated UFO TV antenna on the mast (NEW 2021) completes the package.
Sails and rigging
Ketch‑rigged for balance and versatility, SIROCCO carries a manual Hood Sto’way main mast and a Detroit Offshore Spars mizzen with manual in‑mast furling; both headsail and staysail are on Hood furlers. Her sail inventory comprises a mainsail (2005), a 130% genoa (2005), a storm sail (2002), a mizzen staysail, a staysail and a mizzen. Deck handling is powerful and precise, centered on two Lewmar #90 two‑speed self‑tailing elec. primaries with upgraded gears and two Lewmar #55 two‑speed self‑tailing elec. secondaries, plus a Lewmar #55 self‑tailing main sheet, a Lewmar #46 self‑tailing mizzen sheet and outhaul with Schaefer cam cleats, and two Lewmar #30 self‑tailing travelers. Further control is provided by a Lewmar #65 self‑tailing outhaul winch, a Lewmar #55 three‑speed staysail halyard self‑tailing, a Lewmar #48 three‑speed staysail halyard self‑tailing, a Lewmar #48 three‑speed genoa halyard winch and a Lewmar #30 self‑tailing topping.
Mechanical
A single Caterpillar 3208 diesel engine rated at 210 HP drives the yacht with reassuring torque, monitored by an engine pyrometer and steered via an Edson pedestal with a Wagner hydraulic ram and Wagner rudder angle indicator. Propulsion efficiency is enhanced by a Hundestadt propeller with electric pitch, while a Navtec hydraulic centerboard lift and a centerboard position gauge manage draft with precision. Bilge control is robust, with a Rule engine room 2500 bilge pump @3,000 gal./hr., a Jabsco clutch‑driven main engine bilge pump, two Rule #3500 Float and Pumps electric bilge pumps and an Edson manual bilge pump. Comfort and service systems include four Dometic electric fresh water heads (NEW 2021), two Cruisair AC units with pump and motor, a vibration‑free Aqua drive, a bow thruster with custom foot pedals and an oil change system with old/new oil holding tanks, 15 gal. Tankage is generous: fuel 1200 gal, water 1400 gal, grey water 150 gal, and black water 180 gal with deck pump‑out or overboard discharge.
Electrical
The electrical architecture spans global cruising standards with a 12/24/110/220 volt AC system, a Northern lights 20 kW generator with Racor fuel filter and an isolation transformer, all backed by 220 volt 50 amp shore power. A Victron inverter/charger 24v to 110v AC (NEW 2021) supports hotel loads, while a 24‑12 converter feeds sailing instruments. House capacity comes from eight Workahalic 6v house batteries, complemented by an 8D engine battery.
Deck
On deck, confident handling begins with a Lofrans 24v windlass and both fresh‑ and salt‑water washdown. Safety and comfort elements include a 6‑man life raft, a dodger and bimini (NEW 2021) with side curtains, cockpit cushions and a foredeck cushion, plus a teak cockpit table and a teak cockpit grate. Ground tackle is robust, with a 140 lb. CQR anchor on 300' of chain and a 120 lb. CQR with 50' of chain and 300' of rode. A side‑mounted stainless swim ladder eases access to the sea.
