Detailed Description

Introduction

The 38 San Juan is a fun, sporty express equally at home with carefree day trippers and overnight adventurers. Built on a fiberglass hull reinforced with Kevlar, she is notably lightweight for her size yet inspires confidence with composed, reliable handling in rough seas. A semi-enclosed pilothouse cocoons you from the elements and opens a sweeping 360-degree view across the water from a beautifully crafted teak helm station. Guests can unwind on a convertible dinette and lounge on sun pads that extend to the aft deck, while below the accommodations are thoughtfully arranged with a forward V-berth, a midship queen berth, and a head with shower for effortless weekends away.

Mechanical

Mechanical systems are specified for effortless operation and long-haul reliability, beginning with ZF Microcommander model 91100 engine controls matched to Twin Disc MG-5061A transmissions and 1.75 stainless steel shafts sealed by PSS dripless shaft seals. Power management is supported by a Northern Lights 6 Kw generator, while hydraulic steering keeps helm effort light and precise. Climate comfort comes from an Ocean Breeze 16,000 BTU air conditioner complemented by a Webasto cockpit air conditioner. The freshwater system includes an 80 gallon capacity tank, and hot water is delivered by a Force 10 6 gallon heater. Onboard service systems feature a FloJet shower sump system and an air conditioner sump drain system, plus two Stor-Dry dehumidifiers—one under the cockpit sole and one in the forward cabin area—to keep spaces fresh and dry. Maintenance is simplified by a Reverso oil change system with a switching manifold serving the engines, transmissions, and generator.

Electronics

The helm is outfitted with a Standard Horizon Intrepid VHF radio and a Garmin GPSMAP with a 12" multi-function display integrating chart plotter, sounder, and radar, paired with an AirMar transducer. Situational awareness is further enhanced by a Garmin model GMR18HD radome radar scanner and a Lowrance model RC42N digital rate compass, while a Simrad model AP22 autopilot system keeps passages smooth and precise. Entertainment is handled by a JL Audio Media Master 105, an Element flat-screen TV in the port cabin, a 24" Insignia flat-screen TV in the aft cockpit behind the helm, and a Glomex over-the-air TV antenna for crisp reception underway or at anchor.

Safety equipment

On the safety front, a Lewmar 44 lb stainless anchor sets securely, while three automatic bilge pumps and five portable fire extinguishers stand ready alongside a Kiddee Mariner Fyre Watch automatic fixed-space clean agent fire extinguisher. Core essentials include life jackets and a Ritchie compass, with twin trumpet Kahlenberg air horns for unmistakable signaling. GFI AC outlets and combination CO/smoke detectors add smart protection, and an ACR RCL 100 remote controlled spotlight delivers powerful illumination exactly where it’s needed.

Appliances

Everyday comfort is thoughtfully addressed with a new Dometic model CRX 1110 refrigerator-freezer and a Norcold cockpit refrigerator for easy access to refreshments underway. Entertaining is effortless with an Icerette ice maker in the cabin, while a Princess two-burner Ceran cooktop stove offers quick, clean meal preparation.

Deck

Purposeful deck hardware and finishes inspire confidence, from non-skid weather decks underfoot to a Muir stainless steel vertical-capstan anchor windlass complete with chain and rode. Fine-tuning trim is effortless with a Bennett trim tab system, and the sunroof operates via a Bennett hydraulic pump. Shore connectivity is simple with a 50 amp shore power cord, while large mooring fenders add protection at the dock. At the swim platform, a Scandvic pull-out cockpit shower is ready after a dip, a solar vent breathes through the escape hatch, and a Side Power bow thruster makes close-quarters maneuvering graceful.
