Overview

Timeless 44’ Classic Displacement Cruiser (1969)

Graceful, understated, and endlessly capable, this 44-foot classic invites you to experience cruising the way it was meant to be—unhurried, elegant, and supremely confident. Built in 1969 and lying in the United States, she blends vintage character with the enduring strength of fiberglass construction and a fiberglass deck, delivering the kind of seaworthy integrity that never goes out of style.

Powered by a single Perkins inboard diesel, she moves with quiet assurance, settling into an honest 7-knot cruise and topping out around 7.5 knots. The single-screw simplicity, combined with the efficiency and longevity Perkins is known for, makes every passage economical and reassuringly straightforward. Her slender 11-foot beam and deep, seakindly underbody reward you with a composed ride and a true displacement feel—steady on the helm and designed to track beautifully.

On board, the layout is thoughtfully appointed for extended coastal passages and restful weekends at anchor. Accommodations for four are arranged with a rare-for-her-size two-head configuration, offering welcome privacy for family or guests. A bright, comfortable salon invites conversation and long, unhurried meals; practical cruising amenities are arranged with an eye toward real-world livability. With 200 gallons of freshwater and 170 gallons of fuel aboard, she’s genuinely ready to wander—ideal for those who prefer to explore farther and linger longer.

Every line speaks to a bygone era of purposeful design: clean decks, classic proportions, and a hull that favors substance over flash. She is, in short, a yacht for connoisseurs—those who value the romance of passage-making, the cadence of reliable diesel power, and the quiet confidence of a true classic.

If your vision of yachting leans toward character, comfort, and authentic capability, this 44’ classic is a compelling choice—equally at home as a serene liveaboard, a refined coastal cruiser, or a dignified long-range displacement yacht.

Detailed Description

Description

Designed for long passages and effortless liveaboard comfort, this yacht delivers a remarkably large interior with generous headroom and a wealth of thoughtfully crafted storage. Private fore and aft cabins, each with its own head and shower, bracket a bright midships salon where an updated upholstered U-shaped settee to port faces an inline settee to starboard; both convert to additional berths when guests stay aboard. The forward V-berth suite incorporates a full head with shower and a forward bulkhead door to the chain locker, while the well-sited aft stateroom features a double berth to port with a new 5" foam mattress, abundant cabinetry, and its own private head with shower. A proper nav station lies to starboard, and its chart table cleverly tucks away to open the living space. To port of the companionway, the galley is perfectly positioned for secure meal prep under way, complete with a Seward Princess three-burner propane stove, and is served by an arched passage that begins at the galley and grants easy access to the freezer, lockers, engine room and the aft cabin. The original mahogany joinery has been impeccably maintained, the lockers and cabinetry are shaped in solid teak to fit each curve, and the classic teak-and-holly sole ties the whole interior together. New LED lighting is fitted throughout.

Below the sole, systems inspire confidence. Two freshwater tanks—one beneath the forward V-berth and one under the salon sole—deliver a total of 200 gallons, complemented by forward and aft holding tanks. Fuel capacity is 170. All freshwater plumbing has been renewed stem to stern with marine-grade, cross-linked polyethylene piping, including new water lines, fixtures, pump, taps and a new water heater. Electrical systems are equally robust: the yacht has been completely rewired with new marine-grade conductors and connections by an A&P-certified mechanic, battery management is by Victron, and separate yet combinable battery banks serve the house, main engine and genset. Power is abundant and reliable thanks to a Perkins 77 hp main engine showing only 471.8 hours and a Westerbeke 5 kW generator with only 578 hours; both have been maintained on a rigorous schedule, with oil changed every 50 hours. Hydraulic steering pairs with a Raymarine autopilot for confident tracking, while climate control comes from air conditioning throughout, including a new 15,000 BTU Marinair water-cooled unit in the main salon and an 8,500 BTU unit in the master stateroom. On deck, anchoring is effortless with a new Maxwell electric windlass spooled with 300 feet of BBB chain, and energy independence is enhanced by a 200W Renogy solar array. Engine access is exemplary, with a large machinery space reached via doors between the aft and main cabins and an additional access point beneath the companionway steps. Every head, forward and aft, is in perfect working order. This is a passage-ready platform whose volume, craftsmanship and new systems make extended cruising or living aboard not just possible, but truly pleasurable.

Features

On deck, protective canvas is complete with a Bimini top, mainsail cover and genoa cover, keeping crew and gear shaded and sails preserved. Power needs are easily met by a shore power inlet, a generator and an inverter. The helm and navigation suite are comprehensively equipped with a depthsounder, radar, TV set, a dedicated navigation center with plotter, an autopilot, radio, compass, GPS and VHF for confident passage-making. Comfort and practicality below are ensured by an electric bilge pump, oven, microwave oven, marine head, air conditioning, a fresh water maker, a sea water pump and a battery charger. Exterior conveniences include a tender for effortless shore access and a solar panel to keep batteries topped up. The rig is steered by a wheel, and the sail plan features a furling genoa for easy handling and versatile performance.
