Detailed Description
Description
Step aboard and sail away on this lovely 1991 Tayana 55 sloop, fully equipped and truly ready to cruise. Fresh bottom paint in June 2020 sets the tone for meticulous care, while a thoughtful three-stateroom layout—two forward cabins with double bunks and an aft master stateroom with a centerline queen—promises comfortable passages. Three heads include two new manual toilets, and the huge galley, with tons of storage, features a new refrigerator, freezer, and microwave paired with an electric stove. A watermaker is installed and unused, noted as requiring service, and air conditioning cools both the master cabin and the main salon. The generator has been recently serviced, and the walk-in engine room—accessed conveniently from a door beside the navigation station rather than through a shower, as on some Tayanas—makes all routine checks a pleasure. The Northern Lights 8 kW generator sits in a sound shield with a workbench built around it, a double-size tool chest to port, and additional storage lockers above. Right at hand are the refrigerator compressor, generator, electric winch controls, centerboard controls, air horn compressor, and Racor filters, all laid out for effortless access. With a versatile centerboard, draft is 5'6" up for tucking into shallow reef anchorages, and 10' down for markedly improved windward performance; beam is 16', and vertical clearance stands at 72'. A full set of manuals covers virtually every system and detail aboard.
Overview
A cruising pedigree refined for real-world passagemaking, this Tayana 55 combines clever systems, serious sail handling, and inviting comfort. New bimini and a new headsail furler complement a full wardrobe of North Sails in good condition, while the Metalmast Marine Reefaway System with Profurl in-mast roller furling delivers the convenience of in-mast furling without the headaches of closed-mast designs. Lewmar electric winches pair with a Maxwell electric windlass and a Wesmar bow thruster for effortless control, and twin headsails on Profurl make for versatile trim. Raymarine Axiom radar/chart plotters are installed both at the helm and at the navigation station, with a second chart plotter featuring AIS and SSB for offshore awareness. New wind instrumentation and a new starboard fuel tank speak to continuous upgrades, and a spinnaker with sock stands ready to carry you downwind with ease. The teak decks present in very, very good condition—never sanded, with sealant replaced continuously as needed—so they remain tight, handsome, and leak-free for many years to come. The secure center cockpit is protected by an IVERSON dodger with full surround side curtains for all-weather comfort.
Mechanical and utility spaces are engineered for access and reliability. The Yanmar 140 HP turbocharged engine shows 4,000 hrs and is reachable from all sides via removable panels beneath the companionway steps, inside a galley storage cabinet, and through a removable access panel in the master stateroom; a hatch from the engine compartment opens to the cockpit as well to simplify service. The Northern Lights generator, at mid time, is enclosed in a sound shield with a workbench around it. Lewmar electric self-tailing winches include 2x66 and 2x52 units for the headsails and a 1x43 for the mainsail outhaul. Systems highlights include a macerator and Tank Tender, an FCI Watermaker (installed, unused, requires service), Aquadrive, an anchor washdown pump, and bilge pumps with spares. A 2016 Achilles inflatable with a 15 HP outboard comes with the boat, together with galley equipment and more. Throughout, the vessel shows excellent condition and gentle use—you will not be disappointed. Combined with her earlier-detailed accommodations—three staterooms, three heads with two new manual toilets, air conditioning in the master and main salon, a huge stowage-rich galley with new refrigerator, freezer, microwave and electric stove, a recently serviced generator, a walk-in engine room beside the nav station, and the well-organized machinery bay with refrigerator compressor, electric winch controls, centerboard controls, air horn compressor, and Racor filters—she is ready to cast off. With a centerboard draft of 5'6" up and 10' down, a 16' beam, a 72' vertical clearance, fresh bottom paint from June 2020, and a full set of manuals, this is a bluewater platform prepared for the miles ahead.
