Overview

Single-owner build, overseen by a dedicated project manager and tailored for cruising in U.S. waters. From Vicem’s Classic line, the 85’ ESSENCE OF CAYMAN captures the spirit of a Downeast motor yacht while embracing the modern comfort and capability that define the yard. Appointed to an elevated standard, she presents two richly paneled salons—one on the main deck and another below—and welcomes 6 guests in 3 refined staterooms. The king primary suite spans the beam and offers a sitting area with vanity, a generous walk-in wardrobe, and a spacious en suite. Two twin guest cabins each include private en suites and the same elegant joinery seen throughout. Luxury Motor Yacht. Classic Yacht. Downeast Cruiser. Cruising Yacht.

A broad aft deck invites open-air dining, entertaining, and relaxation, complete with icemaker, refrigerator, and wet bar. From here, guests step directly into the main salon, while easy access to the water awaits aft.

Detailed Description

Machinery

Power comes from twin MAN V12 1200 hp engines mated to ZF gearboxes, supported by two Onan 22.5 kW generators (starboard: 5205, port: 5290) and two 50‑amp shore power connections to keep systems humming in port. The electrical backbone is strengthened by two Newmar “Phase Three” chargers serving both engine and house batteries, while Cruisair air conditioning and a 960 GPD watermaker deliver enduring comfort and autonomy offshore. Precision handling is assured with Lenco trim tabs, a bow thruster, and hydraulic steering, and the Headhunter freshwater system completes a machinery suite that is as robust as it is refined.

Communication, navigation, and entertainment systems

Confident command begins with ICOM VHF, twin Simrad radars (CX54 and RA51), a Ritchie magnetic compass, Simrad AP 25 autopilot, a Simrad depth sounder, Garmin GPS, and a Simrad wind/speed log, delivering a precise, redundant picture of sea and sky. On board, immersion meets indulgence with a BOSE Surround System DVD in the salon, a Yamaha cinema station surround system in the master, and a new Bluetooth surround sound system enveloping the upper salon, lower salon, and master for seamless, high‑fidelity entertainment throughout.

Galley and laundry equipment

The galley is comprehensively appointed with a GE cooktop paired to a convection oven, a GE refrigerator/freezer combo with icemaker plus water and crushed‑ice dispensers, a GE dishwasher, a GE microwave/convection oven, and a GE trash compactor, delivering professional‑grade capability for every menu. Entertaining flows to the outdoors with a GE stainless‑steel refrigerator and a GE icemaker on the aft deck, complemented by a sink and wet bar, while personal indulgence continues with a GE mini‑refrigerator in the master. Practicality is perfected with a GE washer/dryer to keep life aboard effortlessly crisp.

Tender

A willing companion for shore runs and water sports, the tender is a 15' Inmar, ready at a moment’s notice to extend your reach beyond the mothership.

Deck equipment

On deck, anchoring is powerful and versatile with one Lofrans hydraulic windlass and one Lofrans electric windlass working alongside Lofrans aft warping capstans, all servicing dual anchors on galvanized chain measured starboard 250' and port 150'. Movement on and off the yacht is refined with an Esburci passerelle, while a TNT hydraulic swim platform turns the waterline into an irresistible playground.

Fire fighting and safety equipment

Safety is entrusted to a Fireboy fire control system backed by two Fireboy extinguishers and five Kidde alarms, with vigilance extending to two six‑man Viking life rafts, two detachable life rings, and an EPIRB for unquestioned readiness.

Highlights

A life of volume and light unfolds across two expansive salons—one on the main deck and one on the lower deck—anchored by a king master stateroom with a full‑beam en suite and complemented by a generous indoor dining area. Outside, the oversized, semi‑covered main aft deck invites long, leisurely gatherings with effortless access to the water. Performance is spirited from twin MAN diesel engines rated at 1200 hp, delivering a cruising speed of 21 knots and a maximum speed of 26 knots, while the footprint remains beamy and stable with a beam of 22' and a draft of 5.8'.

Refit summary

In 2020, enhancements focused on reliability, comfort, and modern connectivity: three new AC units were fitted in the captain’s cabin, the galley, and the starboard guest cabin; electronic remote fuel shut‑off valves were added to both main engines; a high‑water alarm with a buzzer at the helm and a new engine‑room fire alarm with a buzzer at the helm were installed; manual bilge pumps were added beneath both main engines; and sea cocks on both mains were replaced. The bow thruster was comprehensively refurbished with new batteries, wiring, and terminals, the starboard electronic windlass was completely refurbished, a new dripless shaft seal was installed on the port main engine shaft, and the fuel transfer pump was rebuilt. All three windscreen wiper motors were replaced, the bow section and stem were rebuilt with new teak laid on the bow, and all upper‑salon windows were resealed. The main door’s bottom frame and subflooring were rebuilt with a new hardwood beam, new carpet refreshed the lower guest corridor, and the upper salon’s wood stain was refinished. Entertainment and connectivity leapt forward with a brand‑new KVH TV5 dish and three brand‑new DirecTV boxes serving the lower salon, upper salon, and owner’s cabin, with both lower guest cabins upgraded to have their own DirecTV box; brand‑new HD Smart TVs and a Bluetooth surround sound system were installed in the upper salon; two onboard Wi‑Fi systems were added, internationally unlocked to accept any data SIM card and paired to a local repeater to capture marina Wi‑Fi. Additional service included new fire alarms in the lazarette with the buzzer located in the wheelhouse, two new sea cocks and strainers on the AC system, a new 15 ft tender, replacement of the port hydraulic windlass with a brand‑new electronic windlass, and the installation in progress of a centralized electronic monitoring system including navigation charts, AIS, tank monitoring, and weather reporting. In 2022, propulsion and running gear received thorough attention: cutlass bearings and seals were replaced on the port and STB shafts, the port shaft was removed and sent away for straightening, and port and STB optical alignment checks were completed. The port and starboard swim platform hydraulic lifts were serviced with new seals, the starboard rudder received new seals and packing, and the hull was polished and treated with Carbon Guard, with rails re‑varnished and cosmetic repairs completed. Hydraulic hoses for both port and STB engines were replaced, and the saloon A/C units were replaced to keep the interior cool and quiet.
