Overview

The Makai lineup spans the agile Makai 37 and the voyage-ready Makai 45. Handcrafted in Poland, Makai Yachts blend cutting-edge engineering with impressive efficiency. Their multihull architecture delivers inherent stability, nimble handling, shallow-water access, striking aesthetics, and the generous volume only a luxury catamaran can provide. Conceived by the brand’s founders with Italian designer Emanuele Rossi of ERYD Design, the range reimagines the modern performance power catamaran for today’s motor-yacht owner.

The sleek Makai 37 is a sport motor catamaran that doubles as a capable luxury cruising catamaran. Built for weeklong escapes, it features two roomy staterooms, two heads, an open-air galley, and an expansive cockpit and foredeck to host up to 12 guests. With a 1’ 9” draft, it slides into skinny water, while standard twin 320 HP Yanmar diesel engines speed you to the next anchorage. Expect true catamaran comfort, sport-cruiser efficiency, and a uniquely engaging helm experience.

Detailed Description

Overview

Propulsion that thrills begins with a super‑efficient hull form and a punchy powertrain: this cat has claws. The M37 is engineered to reach a top speed of 38 knots with up to 740 hp on tap, delivered by twin inboard diesels. Choose between two 320 hp Yanmar 8LV‑320 engines as standard or two 370 hp Yanmar 8LV‑370 engines as an option, each benefitting from twin turbochargers and common‑rail fuel injection for superior fuel economy and sparkling acceleration. Drive options are tailored to your style of boating: a standard stern drive, available with an optional joystick, or a recommended Yanmar Q‑SPD surface drive, also joystick‑ready, prized for high corrosion resistance, zero cavitation, low weight, lower fuel consumption, no need for trim, reduced draft, and military‑grade reliability. Beyond pure performance, inboard power unlocks meaningful advantages over outboards: an inherently quieter ride with fully insulated 40 mm engine bays, generous electrical capacity including the ability to heat hot water, long‑range dependability and serviceability, safer swimming with propellers better protected, convenient boarding from the side and stern, a wide, uncluttered aft cockpit, and non‑explosive safety by design.

Underway, ride comfort is transformative. The Makai 37 employs our Air‑Glide* system to generate high air pressure within and low pressure outside the twin hulls, creating a unique, shock‑absorbing cushion that actually increases efficiency with speed. Say goodbye to bumpy dashes to your favorite reef and to slamming into oncoming swells; on a Makai power catamaran, speed never compromises comfort.

Beneath the shine lies meticulous construction. The M37’s hulls and decks are full female‑molded, finished in a durable exterior gelcoat with a molded non‑slip surface across deck areas. The hull laminate is an infused polyester resin with a vinylester tie layer, the deck laminate is vacuum‑formed polyester, and both hull and deck employ a PVC closed‑cell foam core. Laminate specifications are certified to CE standards. Below the waterline, an epoxy barrier coat and two coats of high‑quality black antifouling bottom paint provide robust protection.

Inside, the surprises keep coming. The M37 offers full standing headroom of approximately 6' 10" in two beautifully appointed staterooms—each with a double bed—and, for families, the option to configure a double with an additional single for children or guests. Each cabin enjoys its own shower, sink, and electric flush toilet. American Oak interior joinery sets a warm, contemporary tone, complemented by furniture and cabin sides in a glass gelcoat finish and a cabin top lined with a lightweight, internally molded gelcoat liner. Synthetic timber flooring flows throughout, while handcrafted cupboard doors and trims underline artisanal quality. Panoramic side windows with built‑in portlights flood the cabins with light. Mattresses use 150 mm (6") upholstered foam for restful nights. There are two heads, one in each hull, with two electric freshwater toilets discharging via a built‑in holding tank. Each head features a vanity basin with pressure water, a shower stall with shower head and mixer tap, and an electric shower bilge pump with direct overboard discharge. Storage is abundant, with large‑volume cupboards and shelves finished to a very high standard.

On deck, the Makai 37 delivers a broad, stable platform that comfortably entertains twelve people. A teak cockpit table lowers to form a lounge area, pairing perfectly with upholstered lounge and dining seating. A forward windscreen doorway provides a direct walkway through to the foredeck, while a fiberglass hardtop shelters the cockpit beneath a full‑height windscreen. Access and service are effortless thanks to two forward aluminum hatches, four mid‑cabin aluminum hatches, three forward fiberglass anchor and storage hatches, four fiberglass cockpit engine hatches, three fiberglass cockpit storage hatches, and four fiberglass combing storage hatches. Mooring hardware is comprehensive, with six cleats and two heavy‑duty fairleads at the bows, and safety is enhanced by high‑quality 316 stainless steel rails meeting CE requirements. A full‑width swim platform and stainless steel aft swim ladder invite you to the water. Ground tackle is smartly integrated with an under‑deck anchor roller and a permanent stowage position for a 35 lb plough anchor, an electric anchor winch mounted below deck, and 50 m of 8 mm short‑link galvanized chain. Three PVC inflatable fenders and three mooring lines come ready for action.

The al fresco galley is crafted for effortless entertaining, featuring a coordinated solid surface, a two‑burner stove, a large‑bowl stainless steel sink, a front‑opening upright refrigerator of 48 liters, practical under‑bench storage, and dedicated bins for general waste and recycling.

Power management and lighting are equally refined and robust. A quality DC electric switch panel integrates circuit breakers, LED indicator lights, and a voltage display. Marine‑grade tinned wiring with extensive use of heat‑sealed connectors assures longevity. Battery capacity comes from 2 x 200 Ah house batteries and 2 x 110 Ah engine‑start batteries, managed via a 230 A heavy‑duty isolation switch. The 12 V lighting suite includes LED interior lamps and courtesy lights throughout, with recessed lighting in the cockpit, and there are 3 x 12 V USB outlets—one at the helm and one in each cabin. CE‑approved navigation lights ensure you are seen and safe.

Plumbing is comprehensive, with a pressure water system serving the galley and heads, a fresh‑water tank of 250 liters (66 gallons) with direct deck fill, and an electric fresh‑water pump. Safety and redundancy are built in with four electric bilge pumps and four manual bilge pumps, while all through‑hull fittings meet CE/ISO standards. A fresh‑water tank level display at the helm keeps you informed at a glance.

At the helm, standard navigation equipment puts confident command at your fingertips: a 12" chartplotter with GPS, a depth transducer, a VHF radio, a horn, and a variable‑speed windscreen wiper. From its Air‑Glide ride and sophisticated build to its indulgent accommodations and purposeful systems, the Makai 37 is a power catamaran that turns every mile into an occasion.
