Overview

74' Steel Expedition Motor Yacht — Enduring Strength, Ocean‑Going Poise

Crafted in 1991 and lying in the United States, this 74-foot steel motor yacht blends expedition-grade capability with the easy elegance of a private yacht. With purposeful lines, a solid steel hull and deck, and the serene confidence of a deep 24'4" draft, she is built to go farther in comfort—an ideal long-range cruiser for owners who value security, range, and refined onboard living.

Her 15-foot beam creates a balanced, seaworthy platform with generous interior volume, while the single inboard Caterpillar diesel delivers the kind of honest, economical propulsion that bluewater mariners trust. Settle into an efficient 8-knot cruise or call on up to 12 knots when the horizon beckons; either way, the ride is composed and reassuring. The single-screw simplicity minimizes maintenance and maximizes reliability, making this yacht a compelling choice for passagemaking and serious exploration.

Designed for autonomy, her tankage is exceptional: approximately 4,800 gallons of fuel and 1,200 gallons of fresh water support extended adventure without compromise. Whether you’re tracking a far-flung coastline or lingering in a quiet anchorage for weeks, she provides the range and independence discerning owners expect of a true offshore vessel.

Onboard, the ambiance is warm and inviting—timeless rather than trendy. A spacious salon encourages easy conversation and relaxed entertaining, while a practical, well-sized galley supports real cooking underway or at anchor. Thoughtfully arranged accommodations provide comfort for extended stays with ample storage throughout, and two well-appointed heads ensure privacy and convenience for owners and guests alike. Expansive deck areas invite al fresco dining, sunset cocktails, and unhurried mornings at anchor, with the reassuring feel of steel beneath your feet and the hush of a capable hull at rest.

From her robust construction to her calm, efficient performance, this 74' steel yacht stands out as a true bluewater passagemaker—equally at home as an elegant liveaboard, an adventurous explorer, or a steadfast family cruiser. She is a rare combination of strength, range, and understated luxury, ready to carry you confidently to the next latitude.

Detailed Description

Vessel walkthrough

“Elizabeth Ruth” presents a purposeful single-chine, modified-displacement hull with a raked stem, a transom stern, and a house set just aft of midship—an ocean-bred form that promises efficiency, poise, and control. Below deck, the forward-most sanctuary is the master stateroom, centered around a king-size pedestal berth with generous storage beneath, and the potable water tank nested under the stateroom sole. To port, thoughtfully integrated cabinetry includes a hanging locker, while an overhead escape hatch brings light and assurance. Aft, through a sliding hatch, the space opens to the main salon. Portside in the salon, an enclosed head offers a sink and vanity, toilet, and a true walk-in shower; opposite to starboard, a built-in lounging settee invites relaxation. Aft to port, an inclined stairwell rises to the main deck, while directly aft the salon yields to the heart of the vessel—the engine room.

The engine room is comprehensively equipped, with the main engine flanked by port and starboard fuel tanks, along with batteries, pumps, an inverter, power distribution panels, and a marine sanitation device. At the aft end of the machinery space resides an auxiliary engine with generator, and outboard sit secondary port and starboard fuel tanks. Further aft lies the lazarette, hosting the rudder shaft, steering assembly, and the air-compressor accumulator tank.

On deck, the bow and foredeck carry an anchor winch with the anchor shipped cleanly in a hawse pipe. Aft, a raised fo’c’sle shelters a forward stateroom: at its fore end, a dedicated storage area; abaft that, port and starboard bench lockers framing a centerline dining table; further aft, single berths to port and starboard with storage below. Aft on center, steps lead up and through a watertight door to the well deck.

Forward on the well deck to port, a swing-arm davit stands ready; aft to starboard, a shore tender rests securely on skiff chocks. Aft and beyond the deck break, boarding gates in the bulwarks to port and starboard ease side access. Aft and just off the starboard centerline, a deck-mounted knuckle crane expands capability, and aft again rises the deckhouse. To starboard, outboard of the house, a side deck grants aft access to the deckhouse through a watertight door.

Within the deckhouse, the forward-most portside stairwell descends to the main salon, while inboard a dedicated laundry station adds practical utility. Aft through a doorway, a vertical ladder climbs to the pilothouse. To starboard, a compact office doubles ingeniously as a single berth set thwartship. Aft to port, an enclosed head provides a sink, toilet, and walk-in shower; to starboard, a doorway reveals the vertical ladder down to the engine room. Aft and to port, the galley is positioned with culinary intent.

Starboard of the galley, built-in cabinetry integrates an undercounter freezer and an upright refrigerator. Aft to port, an inviting L-shaped dining settee embraces a table, while to starboard, two built-in chairs complete the space. At the aft end of the deckhouse, a watertight door opens to the aft deck, where to starboard a shower station awaits after-water refreshment, and aft the stern carries a swim platform that raises and lowers on command.

Crowning the deckhouse, the pilothouse is designed for command. At its forward end, built-in cabinetry integrates port and starboard jog stations, with a centerline wheel at the helm; overhead, the electronics array organizes systems with clarity. Aft, helm seats to port and starboard provide steadfast positions, while further aft to port, a thwartship day bunk offers a welcome watchkeeper’s rest—the inboard end lifting to reveal access to the ladder descending to the deckhouse.

To starboard, a watertight door opens to the boat deck. Forward to port on this deck, a propane locker is set for safe storage; aft, a rail-mounted BBQ elevates alfresco living. Further aft, an EPIRB and survival craft stand ready. Safety railings secure the perimeter, and on center a ladder climbs to the pilothouse crown and signal mast, completing a layout conceived for serious passagemaking and daily delight alike.

Main description

Embark on a journey with “Elizabeth Ruth,” a captivating 74’ expedition yacht, fully equipped and resolutely prepared to conquer blue horizons. Born as a rugged Bering Sea fishing trawler, she underwent a sweeping transformation in 2008 and, under the meticulous care of her current owners, emerged as a striking long-range motor yacht ready to go anywhere.

Her timeless beauty is matched by substance: a masterfully crafted interior of exotic woods and fine detailing, a layout that balances seakeeping with human comfort, and systems specified for confidence on the longest passages. With an impressive 8000-mile range, she invites you to think in oceans rather than coasts—an entire world of adventure truly awaits aboard this spectacular vessel.

Recent upgrades underscore the devotion invested in her care. In the fall of last year, Elizabeth Ruth received a comprehensive hull restoration. The entire bottom was professionally blasted to remove damaged coatings, revealing an absolutely pristine steel substrate.
