Launched in 1991, the Grand Banks 49 Classic “Margana” is a classic trawler motor yacht offering generous accommodations for long weekends and extended passages.
She includes an owner’s suite with ensuite head and two guest staterooms sharing a bathroom: a forward V-berth cabin and a twin with side-by-side singles.

In 2022 she received new antifouling, presenting smartly and ready to cruise. Ideal as a classic yacht, family cruiser, and liveaboard for bluewater adventures.
Detailed Description
Main specifications:
Crafted by Grand Banks as the 49 Classic, this timeless yacht was built in 1991 and thoughtfully refitted in 2022. She measures an LOA of 15,39 m / 50", with a beam of 4,70 m / 15' 42" and a draft of 1,55 m / 5". The air draft is 4.70 m to the top of the windshield, enabling confident passagemaking under bridges and into sheltered harbors. Her hull and deck are GRP, complemented by a teak deck finish, while single glass windows frame the saloon with classic clarity. Accommodation is arranged across 3 cabins for up to 6 guests, all supported by robust systems including 2 x Caterpillar 3208 engines at 375 Hp each, delivering a maximum speed of 13 knots and an economical cruise at 9 knots. Fuel capacity is generous at 2 x 1.600 L / 2 x 423 Gal in steel tanks, fresh water reserves at 2 x 750 L / 2 x 200 Gal in steel tanks, and a black water tank is fitted. Antifouling was renewed in 2022, underscoring careful stewardship and readiness for extended cruising.
Machinery:
Power comes from twin Caterpillar 3208 engines rated at 375 hp each, with Engine 1 at approximately ± 2200 hours and Engine 2 at approximately ± 2200 hours. Control is via Morse, driving robust shafts with oil-lubricated bearings and 3-blade propellers for steadfast efficiency. An Onan 16 kW generator supplies dependable onboard power, while an electric bowthruster enhances precision in close quarters. Bilge management includes Rule Industries electric pumps complemented by a manual bilge pump. Trim is handled by Boat Leveller, and comfort at sea is assured by NAIAD stabilizers and a hydraulic steering system. Deck maintenance is simplified with 2 deckwash points. For self-sufficiency, a watermaker is fitted, fresh water is driven by a Paragon Senior PSR pressure pump, and hot water is delivered by a Raritan Engineering Company R20 heater. A heating system extends the season, and climate control comes courtesy of a Marine Air P-100 air-conditioning unit.
Nnavigation system:
Navigation is centered around the RFC-200B compass and a Furuno GP-500 GPS plotter, with a radar screen interfaced to a Furuno radar for confident watchkeeping in all conditions. Essential data is constantly at hand via depth meter, log, and wind meter, while communications are handled by an Icom VHF. Long passages are made effortless with a Robertson autopilot, and helm awareness is sharpened by a rudder indicator: Vdo Electrical System.
Electrical system:
A comprehensive electrical architecture includes dedicated house batteries, start batteries, and a separate bowthruster battery bank. Systems run on a 12V DC backbone with 220 V AC distribution for hotel loads. Power management is strengthened by an inverter and a battery charger, ensuring seamless autonomy at anchor and stable supply underway.
Equipment:
Ground tackle is anchored by 1 anchor served by a Lofran Falkon windlass for swift and secure handling. Boarding is effortless via an Opacmare hydraulic gangway, and tender operations are managed with a classic mast-and-boom crane. The galley is comprehensively equipped with a Seaward stove, microwave, and a Princess 3342-1319 oven, supported by a 1 Dual refrigerator, a freezer, and an ice-cube maker U-line B195, while onboard laundry is simplified with a Zerowatt 61000 washing machine.
Accomodation:
Thoughtfully arranged for cruising comfort, the yacht offers 3 cabins with 1 double bed and 4 single berths, served by 2 electric toilets and 2 showers. On-deck convenience is enhanced by 1 outside shower, perfect for rinsing off after a swim.
