Overview
The Palmer Johnson 120 sport yacht was conceived by the Venetian atelier Nuvolari-Lenard and meticulously constructed in Wisconsin by the Palmer Johnson shipyard, showcasing American craftsmanship at its finest. Its yacht styling is timeless; this luxury motor yacht will forever read as a classic on the water. Countless builders have chased the silhouette, yet none have matched the iconic, seductive, high-performance sport yacht profile of this superyacht. At present, the vessel is running the U.S. East Coast... For EU residents, or for those set on Mediterranean cruising without customs concerns, this American-built yacht is not subject to tariffs or VAT complications when entering European waters, simplifying itineraries. During 2022–2023, IZUMI benefitted from upgrades and meticulous care for years of effortless passagemaking; please refer to the detailed specifications.
Detailed Description
Deck equipment
On the foredeck, two Maxwell VWC 6000 hydraulic vertical windlasses with capstans, band brakes, and tethered pendant controllers work in concert with two Maxwell chain stoppers and two Ray polished stainless-steel stem-mounted anchors, all served by anchor chain with chain wash. The arrangement is completed by four deck-mounted bollards, two stainless-steel fairleads, and freeing ports, while a forward tender garage with a hydraulically operated cover features a davit rated to 1,000 kg. Practical touches include a ship’s bell, a watertight hatch to the chain locker, port and starboard weathertight storage lockers, and a jack staff with socket, with security provided by a welded 316L stainless-steel life rail.
Aft on the main deck, teak decking and stair treads set the tone for relaxation with a seating arrangement of sofas, upholstered cushions, and a table, complemented by a cushioned sun pad. A ladder to the flybridge is concealed in the overhead and automatically deploys and retracts to preserve sundeck privacy. Boarding is effortless via a 5.5 m passerelle with a custom covering door, while a hydraulically powered tender garage houses a tender davit rated to 500 kg. The custom swim platform includes a self-deploying swim ladder and port and starboard stowage lockers. Handling and mooring are optimized by Maxwell 4000 capstans, deck-mounted mooring bollards to port and starboard, and two stainless-steel corner chocks, with polished 316L stainless-steel liferails providing safety. Access and service are ensured by a lazarette access hatch, an engine room escape hatch, service connections for fuel and water, and a shore power cable reel. A polished stainless-steel nameplate with backlighting, two eight-man life rafts in white canisters with hydrostatic release, and a flag staff complete this versatile area.
Up on the flybridge, teak decking frames three built-in seating arrangements with a sun pad and coffee table, alongside cabinets housing an icemaker and refrigerator. An arch supports electronics equipment, while a navigation mast on the housetop carries radar, a searchlight, and an air horn, and safety is enhanced by one six-man life raft in a white canister with hydrostatic release.
Additional outfitting includes twelve fenders with fender hooks, six mooring lines, and two boat hooks, ensuring the yacht is always prepared for secure docking and seamless shoreside operations.
Pilot house - helm
The helm features a hooded dash that elegantly shields instrumentation, controls, and electronics, while two Stidd Deluxe Admiral helm chairs with polished stainless steel bases are upholstered in two colors of leather in a distinctive racing style. A custom-fabricated steering wheel of stainless steel and aluminium, finished with either wood or leather trim, provides a tactile, tailored command. A raised settee with cushions upholstered in two colors of leather matches the pilot chairs for a cohesive aesthetic. Privacy doors and an electro-sensitive privacy glass partition separate the pilothouse from the salon, ensuring quiet focus at the dedicated navigation station, and powered pantograph doors open to the side decks for swift, sheltered access.
Navigation equipment
Confident passagemaking begins at the helm with one 4.5 magnetic compass and one autopilot with gyro, paired with a Furuno radar and Furuno sonar, a chart plotter system, and a dedicated wind instrument package. Night and restricted-visibility operations are assured by navigation lights with a dedicated control panel operating at 24V, including N.U.C. lights and Aqua Signal fixtures, while the helm console presents flat-screen displays with operator-selected daylight monitors for optimal clarity. Situational awareness is further enhanced by four CCTV cameras for continuous monitoring. Forward sightlines remain impeccable thanks to windshield mullions wrapped in technical upholstery, windshield wipers with a fresh water sprayer, and effective windshield defrosters.
Communication equipment
Seamless global connectivity is assured with comprehensive SATCOM featuring satellite communication and WiFi capability, complemented by satellite television for uninterrupted entertainment at sea. For clear and reliable ship-to-shore and onboard coordination, the suite includes one VHF receiver, two Icom portable GMDSS radios to meet stringent safety communications standards, and five Kenwood handheld UHF radios to keep the crew in constant, efficient contact across the vessel. Safety is fortified by one EPIRB and one SART, providing rapid alerting and precise location assistance when every moment matters.
Accommodations
The interior welcomes with selected veneers highlighted by contrasting Lacewood, Ebony, and Wenge accents, while distinctive, textured upholstery enriches the overheads. Underfoot, Wenge wood, carpet, and other high-quality treatments set a refined tone, and throughout the yacht the shower enclosure walls are elevated by marble accents. Faucets and bathroom accessories are from the innovative Dornbracht MEM series, and the hardware is high‑quality, Fusital and similar. Lighting is thoughtfully managed by conveniently located switches, illuminating Cantalupi or similar fixtures that include rope light, recessed down lights, art lights, accent lights, and reading lights, complemented by decorative table lamps and wall sconces placed at points of interest. Window treatments are Roman shades rendered in fine fabric for a tailored finish.
The master stateroom is positioned forward, with two VIP cabins aft, and a versatile day room that can be converted to an additional berth. In the master, a walk‑around bed with storage below is crowned by a king‑size coil spring mattress and an upholstered headboard in fine Rubelli fabric or leather. Nightstands feature bronzed glass, premium marble, or mirror, and a desk‑vanity with a flip‑up mirror sits opposite an entertainment cabinet with a flat‑screen TV and media storage. High‑gloss, cross‑grained wood enriches the bunk, desk, and cabinet tops, while a built‑in sofa with cushions and throw pillows, all upholstered in fine fabrics, invites relaxation beside a generous walk‑in dressing room.
The owner’s his‑and‑hers en suite is a showpiece, with premium marble vanity countertops and sculptural sinks of glass or marble. Marble soles are accentuated with elegant inlays, and the large shower enclosure complements the vanities with marble accents and seats, closed by frameless clear‑glass doors. Thoughtful accessories include a mirror, towel bars, robe hooks, soap dishes, and a toilet paper holder, while two upper vanity cabinets provide abundant storage. A bidet with a Zuchetti fixture completes the suite.
Guest accommodations comprise two VIP cabins and one convertible cabin that also serves as a day room with one single bed. Built‑in berths with drawers and additional storage below maximize space, and coil spring mattresses ensure restful comfort. Nightstands present wood cabinet tops inset with marble, glass, or mirror, while headboards are upholstered in fine leather or Rubelli fabric. Each cabin benefits from an entertainment cabinet, cedar‑lined hanging lockers, and thoughtfully arranged shelving and storage per plans, all set beneath a distinctive upholstered panel overhead.
The guest en suites continue the material narrative with premium marble or glass vanity countertops paired with glass or marble sinks. Showers are appointed with marble accents and frameless glass doors, and each space is finished with a full complement of bath accessories—including mirror, towel bars, robe hooks, soap dishes, and a toilet paper holder—along with upper vanity cabinets for neatly organized stowage.
Entertainment equipment
The yacht’s entertainment suite centers on two satellite receivers that deliver a distributed signal throughout the vessel, feeding theater systems with flat screen monitors in both the salon and the owner’s stateroom, and dedicated entertainment systems with flat screen monitors for the guest and crew areas. Exterior decks offer selectable music sources played through marine speakers, while a Lantic System unifies control across the yacht and a Bang & Olufssen audio system enriches every moment on board. In the master stateroom, one Samsung flatscreen TV is paired with the Bang & Olufssen Audio System, and each VIP stateroom is appointed with one LG flatscreen TV.
Galley
Designed for gourmet performance, the galley centers on a four-burner Miele induction cooktop framed in stainless steel, paired with a convection oven in matching stainless steel. Culinary convenience continues with two Gaggenau microwaves, one finished with stainless steel trim, and a Miele dishwasher also dressed in stainless steel. Provisions are kept impeccably in a refrigerator with a stainless steel front panel and complementary freezer units with matching stainless steel fronts, while vintages rest perfectly chilled in the Subzero wine cooler. A black trash compactor streamlines cleanup, and the Grohe Europlus sink fixture with sprayer, integrated sink disposal, and a range hood with stainless steel trim make prep effortless. Custom cabinetry and a stainless steel countertop provide enduring utility, with discreet heat lamps standing ready to keep dishes at service temperature.
Mechanical equipment
Power comes from two MTU 12V4000 DDEC M90 marine diesel engines delivering 2,750 bhp at 2,100 rpm, managed by MTU DDEC engine controls and monitoring with a diesel fuel fill and transfer manifold and a dedicated fuel flowmeter and totalizer. Engine hours stand at port 3,996 and starboard 3,819 as of September 2023. Steering is electro-hydraulic with dual engine-driven pumps, complemented by fly-by-wire control at the helm and at docking/wing stations, and safeguarded by an emergency steering system. Propulsion is carried through NiBrAl five-blade fixed-pitch propellers on a shaft-type driveline with seals and bearings, while a TRAC Stabilizer system with dual fins enhances comfort underway. Close-quarters control is assured by a tunnel-type bow thruster with proportional control and a bow thruster grill/guard fitted with sacrificial zinc.
Electrical generation is provided by two Kilo Pack 62 kW generators with instrument panels, showing port 8,602 hours and starboard 8,602 hours as of September 2023. The yacht runs a 50 Hz electrical system with both three-phase and single-phase voltages, supported shoreside by a 60 kVA shore power converter and one Glendenning CM-8 cable reel supplying seventy-five feet of 100 amp shore power cable. Charging and redundancy are bolstered by two main engine–driven alternators and two generator-driven alternators. Maintenance-free batteries include two 24V starting battery banks for the main engines and generators, one 24V service battery bank, Mastervolt constant voltage battery chargers, one 24V emergency battery bank in the foredeck locker, and one 24V emergency communications battery bank in the foredeck locker. The electrical architecture features a main switchboard and Power Management System with seamless transfer, circuit breakers, metering, and ground fault indication, plus electrical distribution panels with GFCI-protected outlets, a coded wiring system, and Vimar wall switches serving guest and crew areas. An integrated hydraulic system underpins critical onboard functions.
Climate control is assured by a reverse-cycle air conditioning system rated at 16 tons (192,000 BTU) with digital room controls. Freshwater autonomy comes via one watermaker with an ultraviolet sterilizer and a comprehensive water system consisting of one G & R GRUPPO 2 JET 518 fresh water pressure set, two 30 gallons water heaters with electric elements, a ring-type hot water circuit with circulation pump, seawater piping in copper-nickel [CuNi], one dockside fresh water connection with a pressure-reducing valve, and sea chests with sea strainers serving engine and generator seawater supplies. Potable quality is further refined by a water filter with sediment and taste/odour cartridges. Sanitation is handled by TECMA toilets paired with a Hamann Marine Sanitation Device sewage system.
Fuel cleanliness and reliability are ensured by an Alfa-Laval oil/water separator and Separ fuel filters with gauge, water sensor, and priming pump, assisted by an Oberdorfer 1100 fuel transfer pump. Compressed air needs are met by the ship’s air compressor with reservoir and fittings in the engine room, garages, foredeck, and boat deck, while machinery spaces benefit from a Delta T engine room ventilation system and a fresh make-up air system. Safety and visibility are enhanced by an emergency lighting system and an exterior lighting system. A bilge and fire system manifold feeds one bilge pump and one self-priming fire pump, and service is supported by lube oil pumps—one new and one used—tied to integral tanks for fuel, potable water, holding, new lube oil, and used lube oil, including a new lube oil tank and a waste lube oil tank. Exhaust is routed through dedicated main engine and generator exhaust systems, and propulsion finesse is completed by remote-mounted gear sets with trailing pumps and trolling valves.
Security and safety equipment
An integrated alarm system with dedicated monitors in the pilothouse, crew lounge, and engine room oversees bilge conditions, fire detection, and tank capacities, while four CCTV cameras provide continuous monitoring. Fire protection is comprehensive, featuring a deluge fire system for the garages, a NOVEC-type engine room fire system, and fire dampers on the engine room intake and exhaust vents, complemented by portable fire extinguishers throughout. Safety equipment includes four life rings, a flare kit with six rocket flares, a line throwing device, and both adult and child life jackets, all supported by a clearly documented safety plan.
Crew quarters
Thoughtfully appointed for long-range comfort and efficiency, the crew area features Sail White Formica–clad bulkheads and partitions complemented by White Oak cabin doors, cabinets, and accent trim. A durable Amtico Stripwood floor runs throughout, while upholstered panel overheads add a refined, acoustic softness to the space.
The captain’s cabin offers one large single bed and a berth with lockers beneath, paired with a cedar‑lined hanging locker to keep attire fresh and impeccably stored. Adjoining this private retreat, the captain’s head presents a vanity cabinet with a stone top; faucets, shower mixer, and head by American Standard SEVA, or equal; and a full suite of bathroom accessories including a mirror, medicine cabinet, towel bar, soap dish, robe hook, and toilet paper holder. The shower is enclosed by a clear glass door for a bright, airy feel.
The crew’s stateroom is intelligently arranged with one set of twin bunks located aft and one set of twin bunks located forward, with storage beneath the berths and a cedar‑lined closet for organized stowage. The crew’s head mirrors the premium specification with a stone‑topped vanity cabinet; faucets, shower mixer, and head by American Standard SEVA, or equal; and accessories including mirrors, medicine cabinets, towel bars, soap dishes, robe hooks, and toilet paper holders. A clear glass shower door and an exhaust duct ensure a clean, well‑ventilated environment.
Tenders and water sports
The yacht is equipped with a comprehensive fleet to elevate every moment on the water, featuring one 3.30m Avon 320 Jet powered by 104 Hp and one 4.45m Castoldi Jet delivering 110 Hp for swift, comfortable transfers and effortless coastal exploration. For exhilarating thrills, two Yamaha stand-up jet skis await, while dedicated support equipment—an air service hose and a water service hose—ensures smooth, efficient setup for all watersports activities.
Recent services in 2023
In 2023, the yacht received a comprehensive suite of upgrades and maintenance: all sea water pipes were descaled; new shaft housings, bearings, and shaft seals were installed; the propellers were re‑pitched; the stabilizers were updated with new software; all teak decks were sanded; new exterior cushions were fitted; a new hydraulic pump was installed; a new raw‑water pump was added for the generators; one new AC chiller and two new air handlers were fitted; a new TV antenna was installed; the AV system was enhanced with a new amplifier; new DirecTV was added; one icemaker was rebuilt; and all interior wood and leather were refinished.
