Overview
Spirit of Rani was born from a meticulous brief by a seasoned yachtsman who had owned boats and knew precisely what mattered: graceful, classic yacht lines, shorthanded handling, bluewater pace, and the volume and luxurious amenities to live aboard with ease. Sean McMillan of Spirit Yachts drew and engineered her to that vision. The outcome is a performance sailing yacht that has spanned oceans, competed at Antigua Classic Week, and roamed the Mediterranean, Caribbean, and farther afield, largely single‑handed, for more than ten years.
In 2024 and 2025 the present owner invested over €200,000 to deliver a turn‑key, near-concours condition with new rod rigging, premium Quantum Fusion sails, new Mastervolt battery banks, and a full Awlgrip respray.
Across 2024/2025 she underwent a comprehensive refit exceeding €200,000: rod rigging renewed throughout, a battened Quantum Fusion mainsail with 110% jib added, a Mastervolt AGM service bank installed (4 x 200Ah, 400Ah @ 24v), a 60L stainless-steel calorifier fitted, and the hull refinished in Awlgrip Oyster White with two lacquer coats, alongside systems servicing and inspection, leaving the yacht assessed as near-concours on completion.
The main engine has been maintained to manufacturer guidance throughout, with records available; the Mastervolt generator serviced routinely. This luxury yacht winters ashore under care, with full maintenance and refit documentation for serious buyers.
Detailed Description
Extra equipment
The rig, serviced and partly renewed in 2024, is a fractional carbon sloop, keel-stepped and manufactured by Southern Spars. It features a three-spreader configuration and carbon and rod standing rigging, with the rod rigging new in 2024. Sail handling is refined by a Bartels electric headsail roller-reefing system and hydraulic backstay, outhaul, vang, and halyard tension controls by Navtec/B&G.
The sail wardrobe, new in 2024, comprises a fully battened deep-roach mainsail with two slab reefs, built in Quantum Fusion sailcloth with seven carbon battens and a Harken batten car/switchcar. The jib is 110% in Quantum Fusion sailcloth with a furling drum set below the foredeck, complemented by a free-flying reacher on a dedicated furling system. All winches are self-tailing chrome bronze by Harken, and all blocks and deck gear are Schaeffer mirror-polished stainless steel.
Mechanical equipment
Power is delivered via a KM35A1 marine gearbox with a 2.6:1 ratio and an 8° down‑drive angle, ensuring efficient thrust across the range. Precision steering comes from a direct chain‑and‑wire drive culminating in a custom laminated mahogany wheel (1.3 m, carbon fibre core) complete with a wheel brake, providing 3.0 revolutions lock to lock with positive 35° quadrant stops. Independence at sea is enhanced by a fully automatic Seafresh H203 water maker producing 50 litres/hour on 240v AC, while climate control is assured by a Webasto reverse‑cycle chilled/warm water system with 8 outlets operating on 240v AC 50Hz. For confident close‑quarters handling, a Sidepower 90 kgf (7 kW) duo‑prop bow thruster with joystick and on/off control at the helm delivers instant, precise maneuverability.
Electrical systems
The yacht’s electrical architecture is anchored by a Mastervolt 32 A shore power installation that includes a ten-meter shore cable plus a fifteen-meter extension, all safeguarded by a seven kVA galvanic isolator. Onboard distribution provides 230 V AC single phase and 24 V DC, while power conversion is handled by a Mastervolt sinewave inverter 24/1000 W. Reliable starts come from one Mastervolt AGM 12/90 Ah battery (90 Ah at 12 V starter), and the house systems are supported by four Mastervolt AGM 12/200 Ah service batteries delivering 400 Ah at 24 V, new 2025.
Navigation & communication
The yacht is equipped with a Simrad VHF that is DSC-enabled and compliant with GMDSS, complemented by an Icom waterproof handheld VHF, with the Simrad unit providing full DSC controller functionality. Navigation and safety systems include AIS, a depth sounder, a searchlight, and an EPIRB, all installed for assured readiness. Helmsmanship is refined by a B&G T2 autopilot driving a hydraulic linear drive ram, coordinated through a B&G Hydra G3000 CPU and guided by a B&G Halcyon 2000 compass sensor. Positioning and passage planning are handled by a Simrad GPS chartplotter at the chart table with a repeater at the helm, joined by a B&G GFD multi-function display at the chart table and a further monitor in the owner’s cabin. Heading is confirmed by a 5-inch Danforth/Rigel magnetic compass with light and dimmer. Apparent wind data is delivered by a B&G masthead sender feeding B&G 20/20HV multi-function displays, with two port and two starboard on the deckhouse aft. The radar array has been removed; however, all cabling remains in place for straightforward reinstallation.
Audio visual equipment
An immersive Bose loudspeaker system extends throughout all cabins and the exterior, while a CD player is connected to the Zeuss Navi system for seamless integration and control. For video entertainment, a television is served by a mast-mounted antenna to deliver reliable reception underway and at anchor.
Galley and laundry equipment
Designed for effortless living at sea, the galley features a robust cooking arrangement comprising a three-burner hob, grill, and oven set on a gimballed mount for safe, level operation under way. Cold storage is comprehensive, with a front-loading refrigerator of approximately 120L paired with an additional wine-cooling fridge of approximately 46L, while a durable polyethylene top-loading freezer of approximately 46L safeguards longer-term provisions. Practicality extends to laundry needs as well, with washing machine connection points already installed within the foredeck anchor hatch.
Deck equipment
A Lewmar electric windlass with warping/chain gypsy provides assured anchoring performance, complete with brake and chain counter and complemented by a wandering handheld control. The ground tackle comprises a main 25 kg Delta-type anchor and a kedge 18 kg Fortress-type anchor. Their rodes are equally robust: the main carries 70 m x 10 mm calibrated chain, while the kedge is equipped with 10 m x 10 mm chain paired with 100 m x 20 mm multiplait warp. Practicality continues with a boat crane and davits that are removable and neatly stored in a locker, and boarding is facilitated by a 1.5 m passerelle secured with two-pin deck mounts.
Safety & fire protection
The yacht’s safety suite includes six adult lifejackets, each equipped with a harness, light, and whistle. A single eight-man SOLAS-approved liferaft with an A survival pack stands ready for rapid deployment, while signaling is ensured by one SOLAS offshore flare kit accompanied by one SOLAS flare container. Emergency communications are secured with an Icom waterproof handheld VHF, and fire protection is strengthened by multiple portable fire extinguishers in accordance with IMCI requirements.
Tenders & toys
A Zodiac 3.6 m tender, powered by an 8 HP Yanmar outboard engine, delivers dependable, agile transport between yacht and shore, ensuring smooth handling and effortless convenience for guests and crew.
