Detailed Description
Overview
Created for connoisseurs who take pride in excellence, this Cabo Rico embodies the most exacting standards of construction, detail, and finish. The celebrated Crealock design, with its clipper bow flowing into a jaunty sheer, yields a yacht that feels contemporary yet timelessly classic. The deck plan is the culmination of many years of experience: a bowsprit that makes anchoring effortless and provides stowage for two anchors, dedicated chain and rode lockers, abundant deck space, generous storage throughout, and a notably comfortable cockpit. Safety is intrinsic, and the level of finish is unrivaled. Solid teak forms a naturally non‑skid surface across the cockpit seats and sole, while a large cockpit locker and a full lazarette deliver copious stowage for lines, fenders, a deflated dinghy, and all the gear that makes life under sail effortless.
Every Cabo Rico is hand‑crafted from the keel up. The hull is heavily built with the latest resins, exceeding today’s industry standards by a wide margin. An insulated hull and one‑piece deck are sealed with 3M 5200 bonding compound and then through‑bolted to create one of the strongest hull‑to‑deck joints in the industry. Multiple ballast castings are placed along the keel and separated by fiberglass bulkheads; all voids are filled with a special fiberglass compound to lock the ballast immovably in place. The entire area is then sheathed with multiple layers of mat and roving, delivering the strength, rigidity, and security akin to a double hull in this critical zone.
Below, the yacht surrounds you with nautical luxury, not fiberglass panels and aromatic synthetics trimmed with plywood. Real wood, lovingly crafted and precisely fitted, is hand‑rubbed to a warm, lustrous finish reminiscent of fine antique furniture or a concert grand piano. Leather and fine fabrics complement beautiful brass, along with chromed or stainless steel fixtures. No one creates a space for waiting out a storm or entertaining guests quite like Cabo Rico; indeed, the honey‑colored solid teak interior helped make the marque famous. Such beauty takes time: time to age logs from Costa Rican teak forests, time in the kilns, time under the eye of a master carpenter selecting the perfect boards, and hours of meticulous craftsmanship—enhanced by state‑of‑the‑art woodworking tools—hand‑fitting each piece to realize a true, ocean‑going, liveaboard interior.
Owners confirm the brief: this is a semi‑custom boat built for offshore work and extended cruising. More than $20,000 has been invested in replacing the cockpit floor and refinishing the brightwork. A custom steel cradle was built by Irish Boat Shop in 2015. A new Doyle Stack Pack for the mainsail was added in 2019. The yacht has been stored indoors. The current owner, aboard since 2013 and sailing the Great Lakes for over 20 years, has discovered new upwind techniques with the cutter rig (staysail) and new downwind methods with a whisker pole (wing on wing) and a gennaker. “Hermitage” is pure fun to sail and inspires a deep sense of safety.
