Overview

For sailors who dream of steering their own boat through far‑flung, untouched waters, that vision is now practical, accessible, and within a sensible budget.

The Far Harbour 39 (FH39) is the first genuine bluewater cruising sailboat designed to travel inside a standard container. This couples’ cruising yacht crosses oceans within the safety of steel—quickly, effortlessly, and without the fatigue, risk, or time pressure of a long offshore passage.

A regular shipping container becomes your magic carpet. Containers move by ship, truck, and rail with exceptional economy, convenience, security, and flexibility. Begin at your home yard, load the yacht, select any cruising ground without limits, then fly in to meet your boat and begin your voyage.

Naval architect Bob Perry optimized every dimension for the box, delivering a superb performance design. A 38‑foot waterline, hard chines, and a purposeful narrow beam unlock generous interior volume while creating a remarkably fast, efficient, seaworthy monohull.

Downwave she surfs beyond 11 knots. On a power reach she consistently logs 9+ knots, and under engine the FH39 runs at over 8 knots.

Typical cruising fuel burn is about 0.6 gal/hour.

In the first three years after launch, she logged more than nine thousand nautical miles—mostly offshore—proving the strength, reliability, and comfort expected of a performance cruiser, offshore cruiser, and ocean passage‑maker. The FH39 is a rare blend of sailing yacht sophistication, liveaboard practicality, and true bluewater capability.

Detailed Description

Overview

Poised for bluewater confidence and coastal ease alike, this yacht’s rig is precisely balanced: I 39 ft, J 13.1 ft, P 36.3 ft, and E 16.4 ft, with an RSAT sail area of 553 sq ft. The Profurl jib furler, an aft-swept twenty-five degree rig, and a double-spreader, deck-stepped mast deliver strength and control, while a slab-reefed main makes shortening sail clean and reliable when the breeze rises. Under power, the Yanmar 3JH4CE, 40 HP, paired with the Saildrive SD50 and a PYI-Classic 18 prop, provides smooth, efficient thrust with notably low vibration. On deck, the yacht is set up to sail with authority and finesse: two Pontos 40 AST primary winches and two Pontos 30 AST halyard winches put precise trimming at your fingertips, while a Lewmar Concept 1 powered windlass and a Delta 44 lbs. anchor inspire confidence when you drop the hook. Steering is assured and responsive thanks to hydraulic steering at the helm. Tankage is thoughtfully specified for independence and comfort, with fuel 75 Gal., water 75 Gal., holding 25 Gal., and hot water 11 Gal., all supported by a fresh water pressure system. The electrical backbone is robust and ready for extended cruising, featuring four 100 AH AGM Group 31 batteries, a 60 AMP engine alternator, a 2000 watt Xantrex inverter, and a Xantrex MS 2000 battery meter for precise monitoring. Navigation and situational awareness come effortlessly with a Raymarine ST 8001 autopilot, a Raymarine C80 GPS chartplotter, a Raymarine E0201B radar, and a Tacktick wireless suite comprising wind, log, and depth. Life aboard is inviting and intelligently laid out. Forward, the forepeak neatly houses anchor chain and line storage. The fore cabin offers a double berth measuring 4' 7", with shelves to port and starboard, a hanging and storage locker, an additional shelf, and a proper door for privacy. At the companionway, a hanging locker serves quick-grab gear. The head is complete and functional with a counter, sink, cabinet, shower, and WC. In the main cabin, settees to port and starboard frame the space, complemented by matching bookshelves and a handsome drop-leaf table for dining or charts. The galley is a seagoing chef’s ally with a three-burner propane stove with oven, refrigerator, deep sink, two counters to port and one to starboard, and generous lockers and drawers. The pilot house is a secure command center with a bench pilot seat, engine controls, an electronics display panel, a wheel, a hanging locker, and a door with steps leading directly to the cockpit. Aft, the cockpit offers a traditional tiller, port and starboard 6' benches for relaxed watchkeeping, and winches mounted on the coamings for confident sail handling. Ventilation and light are abundant, with hatches in the fore cabin, the head, two in the main cabin, and in the pilot house; windows include two in the main cabin, five fixed in the pilot house, and two opening in the pilot house for airflow underway or at anchor.
