Detailed Description

Introduction

Luna is hull number 15 of only 17 Hunt Harrier 36s ever crafted, making it a rare gem in the world of boating. These iconic designs have become highly collectible, especially since the molds no longer exist. It's a shame, as these boats are remarkable in many ways, not least of which is the character they exude when powered by twin Volvo 435hp diesels with shafts, props, and rudders. If there ever were a 12-cylinder touring car equivalent on water, this is it. Luna offers ample power for cruising with family and friends, achieving a swift 30-32 knot cruise. Equally impressive is her ability to glide at slow speeds on a plane, whispering through the water while sipping fuel, with minimal bow rise for excellent visibility for both the helmsperson and guests. No drier riding boat exists, making the expansive and open cockpit a delight both underway and at rest.

Built with Florida's climate in mind, Luna features a minimal maintenance exterior with white gelcoat surfaces to prevent excessive heat buildup underfoot, behind the windshield, and in the cabin. This simple yet well-thought-out vessel is equipped with amenities such as AC/reverse cycle heat for the interior, twin Garmin plotters at the helm, twin Stidd pedestal seats, autopilot, and a bow thruster. A custom bridge deck wet bar and other custom features cater to both the enthusiastic host and the avid angler. Bravo!

The focus on exterior space and day boating is evident, with a very large ensuite head below deck that complements this theme. Yet, the interior is both lovely and functional, featuring a convertible dinette, galley, and a large V-berth with a filler to create a spacious double bed, perfect for overnight stays or long weekends for a couple or a family with young children.

Luna is indeed a special boat, superbly maintained with light seasonal use in a covered slip until 2024. This is the second Hunt for the original and current owners, who have decades of experience in both power and sailboats, in both northern and southern waters. In other words, they recognize a great boat when they see one. Luna benefits from recent enhancements, including an electric windlass and anchor roller, a fiberglass swim platform, a custom bimini, and a dual-height settee on the bridge deck. Reluctantly but seriously offered for sale, she is ready for many more years of service, and we invite your interest and inspection.

Hull

The hull of this yacht is a testament to advanced engineering and meticulous craftsmanship. Constructed with biaxial E-glass fabric, it features a foam-cored bottom and topsides, ensuring both strength and lightweight performance. The hull and deck are vacuum-bagged, a technique that enhances structural integrity and durability. To protect against osmosis, a vinylester resin barrier is applied to the bottom, providing an additional layer of defense against water ingress.

Inside, the yacht boasts foam-cored E-glass stringers, which contribute to the overall rigidity and stability of the vessel. The bilge is painted, not only for aesthetic appeal but also for ease of maintenance. Custom-painted louvered engine compartment vents, matching the hull color, add a touch of elegance and functionality, ensuring optimal ventilation.

The yacht is equipped with an extruded vinyl sheer guard, offering protection and a sleek finish. A transom door on the starboard side provides convenient access, enhancing the vessel's practicality. The interior features a molded fiberglass hull liner, which adds to the seamless and polished look of the yacht. Finally, the gel coat finish on the hull topsides and deck ensures a glossy, durable surface that stands up to the elements, maintaining the yacht's pristine appearance.

Deck

The deck of this yacht is a masterclass in design and functionality, crafted from E-glass with a foam-cored laminate and featuring a molded non-skid surface for safety and durability. A custom stainless steel bow rail adds both style and security, while the anchor locker, complete with a drain, is seamlessly molded into the foredeck. This locker is equipped with a flush-mounted, guttered hatch for easy access.

The deck is outfitted with two stainless steel bow chocks and two 12-inch bow cleats, providing robust mooring options. Additionally, there are four stainless steel pop-up cleats, with two positioned amidships and two aft, ensuring versatile docking capabilities. The white powder-coated aluminum windshield, complete with handrails and side-opening vent windows, is fitted with Solex glass, which is green-tinted to preserve night vision.

For all-weather navigation, pantograph windshield wipers with washers are installed on both the port and starboard sides. The yacht is equipped with U.S. Coast Guard-approved running lights and an anchor light, ensuring compliance and safety. Ventilation is enhanced by a Lewmar opening coach roof cabin hatch with a nylon screen, complemented by another hatch in the head. Four Lewmar opening port lights, also with nylon screens, provide additional airflow.

The deck is further equipped with four Wichard pad eyes for secure fender line tie-downs. Stainless steel deck fills are provided for water, fuel, and waste pump-out, ensuring convenience and efficiency. The yacht features a Lewmar 12v windlass with an anchor roller, accompanied by a new anchor, chain, and rope rode, all updated in 2024, ensuring the vessel is ready for any adventure.

Cockpit

The cockpit of this yacht is both expansive and versatile, designed with wide and flat coamings that are comfortable to sit on and secure for stepping. A transom door to starboard is a thoughtful feature, perfect for both swimming and landing a kingfish. Currently, the cockpit on Luna is wide open, allowing for the placement of deck chairs as desired. This space has been utilized in various ways on similar boats, with ample room for additional built-in seating on stainless frames, which can be easily removed either partially or entirely. L- and U-shaped settees with bolstered backrests are common additions that truly enhance the yacht's appeal.

The entire cockpit sole can be easily removed, providing convenient access to two aft hatches for quick entry to the rudder posts and aft bilge. A single hatch just forward on the centerline allows access to the fuel tank dipstick and sender. A custom fiberglass 24-gallon well is centrally located on the transom, serving as a drinks cooler and is also plumbed with a pump for use as a live well. This feature doubles as a great tabletop for drinks and food, and also offers excellent fender storage.

Natural teak side boarding steps add a touch of elegance, while LED strip lighting beneath the cockpit coamings ensures excellent illumination of the cockpit sole. A hot and cold cockpit shower with a nozzle is conveniently located in the cockpit coaming aft to port. For added convenience, a saltwater deck washdown system is integrated with a hose, nozzle, and storage holder. A custom varnished teak flag staff from Bette Fleming, complete with a stainless flush socket, adds a classic touch. Rack storage is available under the starboard cockpit coaming, and five rod holders are strategically placed in the cockpit coamings for fishing enthusiasts. The fiberglass swim platform, equipped with a bathing ladder, is a new addition for 2024, enhancing the yacht's functionality and appeal.

Bridgedeck and helm

The bridgedeck and helm of this yacht are designed for both comfort and functionality, offering ample space for family and friends. The area is well-protected by a windshield and curved glass side panels, with a convertible bimini top, new in 2024, providing overhead cover. This setup can be opened to the front, sides, and back, making it ideal for warmer climates and sunny days. Side filler curtains, which have never been used, are available for additional protection.

The helm features twin pedestal chairs, both upgraded Stidd Slimline models with white powder-coated frames that match the white Ultra-leather covering. These chairs include optional varnished teak ladderbacks, with one positioned at the helm and the other for a companion across to port. The portside dash area includes a teak-framed chart book locker with a tinted Lexan top. Outboard of the chair, a varnished teak shelf with a solid handle is built into the fiddle, complete with cupholders and a locker with a door beneath. The companionway is adorned with varnished teak bi-fold and louvered doors, secured with a heavy-duty magnetic catch, and a bi-fold teak and Lexan sliding hatch top. Forward-facing "classic station wagon" side vents on the windshield panels enhance ventilation, drawing in a refreshing breeze when underway.

The helm console is a fiberglass pod, hinged along the bottom for easy access to all helm wiring, steering, and electronics. The varnished pod outboard includes a shelf, fiddle, drink holder, recessed "cubby," and handhold, with a 110v/12v electrical panel beneath a sliding Lexan door. A built-in natural teak step at the helm adds convenience, while a custom teak and stainless steering wheel and Ritchie compass, both featuring the Hunt logo, provide a touch of elegance. A single white protective Stamoid cover shields the entire helm.

Next aft to starboard is a large custom molded wet bar, trimmed with teak and topped with Corian. It features a recessed stainless steel sink with a folding faucet and hot and cold water, with a storage locker beneath and a second locker aft with built-in drawers, both with varnished teak doors. Aft to port is a custom molded dual-height twin settee, approximately 4’ x 3.5’, with elevated front and lower aft seating and backrest. This area is insulated with oversized scuppers to drain overboard, doubling as a fish box or large cooler. The top lifts effortlessly on gas struts for easy access, and the seat cushions are removable.

The custom bimini top, new in 2024, includes a clear plastic filler piece to the windshield and a custom integrated stainless steel arch for antennas with four stainless rocket launchers (rod holders). Side curtains are also included, and the original 'Navy' top, which connects directly to the windshield without a filler curtain, is part of the inventory and may be preferred north of the Mason-Dixon line. Stitched-on Stamoid safety grab straps run down both sides of the bimini top for secure movement along the side decks, and custom stainless handles on the underside provide secure handholds while underway.

Additional features include two LED courtesy lights down low and a single overhead light aft on the bimini frame. Stamoid protective covers are provided for all bridge deck seating, the helm, wet bar, companionway, and portside teak cubbies, ensuring the area remains in pristine condition.

Interior

The interior of this yacht is a showcase of elegance and functionality, featuring beautiful satin-finished cherry joinery throughout. The cabin is lined with molded fiberglass and offers an optional padded vinyl fabric overhead for a distinctive custom touch. At the forefront, a large and comfortable V-berth is equipped with a removable center filler cushion, transforming it into a spacious double bed with storage compartments beneath. These compartments are easily accessed through fold-down cherry locker doors or by lifting the cushions.

The cabin sole is finished in a highly durable faux teak and holly, adding to the aesthetic appeal. Comfort is ensured with a 10,000 BTU air conditioning unit, which features a large vent in the saloon cabin area and a small 4-inch open/close vent in the head compartment. The cabin is well-ventilated with three opening ports and a large Lewmar overhead hatch with a screen. Custom natural teak companionway steps are designed with vents for the AC unit.

The galley, located to starboard, is equipped with a Corian top, a stainless steel sink, and hot and cold pressure water. It includes an optional single burner electric ceramic stovetop, satin-finished cherry storage cabinets above with a stainless steel microwave oven, and additional storage below with a cabinet and drawer. An Isotherm 12v/110v stainless refrigerator with a small freezer compartment completes the galley setup.

A convertible dinette offers seating for four and can be transformed into a proper adult berth with a length of 6 feet 10 inches. A "Pilot Berth" for children is stored outboard and can be hung from the overhead when in use. Forward of the dinette on the port side is a hanging locker with a Corian shelf and fiddles, a cherry-framed AC vent with a shelf above, and forward and aft facing "martini glass" reading lights on either side, as well as to starboard for the berth. Additional reading lights are provided aft for the dinette, along with overhead lights.

The ensuite head is large, comfortable, and practical, offering good standing headroom and ventilation from an opening port, overhead hatch, and AC/heat vent. It features a Corian countertop with satin-finished cherry wood cabinet door storage beneath, a stainless steel sink, and a hot and cold pressure water faucet/shower head. Outboard satin-finished cherry drop-down faced storage lockers, an in-floor molded shower pan with an automatic shower drain, and a cherry-framed mirror on the aft bulkhead add to the functionality. A tie-back shower curtain with an overhead track, an electric flush head with a Y-valve, and a macerator pump for offshore overboard discharge are included. An 18-gallon holding tank is available for inshore use with deck pump-out.

The hot and cold pressure water system services the galley sink, head sink/shower, bridge deck wet bar, and cockpit shower, all supported by a 6-gallon hot water heater tank.

Electronics

The electronics suite on this yacht is designed to enhance navigation and communication, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable experience on the water. At the heart of the system are two Garmin GPS Map 7212 12-inch color chartplotters, each equipped with independent GPS antennas and chart chips. These chartplotters are complemented by a 1-kW depth transducer and a color fish finder, providing detailed underwater views and precise navigation capabilities.

Communication is facilitated by an Icom M4212 VHF radio, which is paired with an optional 4-foot high boost fiberglass antenna to ensure clear and reliable communication over long distances. For hands-free navigation, the yacht is equipped with a Garmin autopilot, allowing for precise course adjustments and ease of handling.

To enhance connectivity, a cell phone antenna is integrated within the helm dash, boosting cell reception and ensuring you stay connected even when offshore. Maneuverability is further enhanced by a SidePower bow thruster, providing precise control in tight docking situations. Additionally, interceptor (vertical) trim tabs are installed, allowing for optimal trim and stability under various sea conditions. This comprehensive electronics package ensures that every journey is smooth, safe, and enjoyable.

Mechanical

The mechanical systems of this yacht are engineered for performance and reliability, featuring twin upgraded Volvo 435 hp common rail diesel engines. These engines are equipped with electronic throttle and shift, optional trolling valves, and dual Volvo Penta digital gauges, ensuring precise control and monitoring. The engines are mounted on flexible mounts and paired with ZF marine gear 1:51 transmissions, providing smooth and efficient power delivery.

The propulsion system includes two 1-3/4 inch diameter Aquamet 22 propeller shafts with dripless face-type shaft seals, cast bronze shaft struts, and high-speed bronze rudders. High-speed 4-blade Nibral propellers further enhance the yacht's performance. Steering is manual hydraulic, featuring a custom teak and stainless steering wheel adorned with the Hunt logo, and dual lever electronic engine controls offer intuitive handling.

The yacht is equipped with side engine exhausts and custom mufflers from Soundown, reducing noise and ensuring a pleasant onboard experience. Each engine is protected by a Racor 900MA diesel fuel filter/water separator, and a Reverso electric oil change system in the engine room facilitates easy maintenance for both engines. Safety is paramount, with a Fireboy automatic fire extinguisher system installed within the engine compartment.

A Sidepower 7-inch electric bow thruster with helm dash-mounted joystick control enhances maneuverability, making docking and tight maneuvers effortless. For easy access to all mechanical components, electric piston struts allow the entire bridge deck sole to rise at the push of a button. The engine compartment beneath the bridge deck is equipped with composite sound reduction materials to minimize noise levels.

Custom LED strip lighting has been added to the top sides of both the inboard and outboard sides of the structural bilge stringers beneath each engine, enhancing visibility and illumination in the engine room bilge. Overhead lighting in the engine room compartment further ensures that maintenance and inspections can be carried out with ease and precision.

Electrical

The electrical system of this yacht is designed for efficiency and safety, ensuring reliable power management both at sea and dockside. The yacht is equipped with ELCI protected shore power, featuring a 30-amp breaker and a reverse polarity indicator to safeguard against electrical faults. There are two 30-amp 110-volt dockside outlets, each with its own shore power cable: one dedicated to ship's service and the other for separate air conditioning operation, allowing for flexible power distribution.

The electrical panel on board is a comprehensive 110 Volt AC / 12 Volt DC system, complete with breakers and a battery condition and use meter, providing clear and accessible power management. A Charles 30-amp battery charger ensures that the yacht's batteries are always ready for use. Remote battery switches are conveniently located at the helm and are connected to BlueSeas ML-RB3 solenoid switches in the engine room, facilitating easy control and monitoring.

Additionally, BlueSeas automatic charging relays are mounted at the helm, ensuring efficient battery charging and management. The yacht is powered by three AGM 12-volt marine batteries, which provide reliable power for engine starts and ship's service. For added convenience, a 12-volt plug is available at the helm, allowing for easy access to power for various devices. This well-integrated electrical system ensures that all onboard systems function smoothly and efficiently, providing peace of mind during every voyage.

Safety equipment and miscellaneous gear

The yacht is equipped with a comprehensive array of safety equipment and miscellaneous gear to ensure peace of mind and convenience on the water. An AFI 12v flush mount air horn provides a reliable signaling device, while extra fabric handles on the bimini top and custom stainless handles on the bridge deck overhead frame enhance safety and ease of movement. The stainless bow rail adds an additional layer of security, and the engine room is equipped with a fire extinguisher for added protection.

For boarding convenience, a transom boarding step is included, and a high water bilge alarm provides an early warning system for potential flooding. The yacht is fitted with two 2,000 GPH automatic bilge pumps in the engine compartment, one 2,000 GPH automatic bilge pump under the cockpit area, and a 750 GPH automatic bilge pump in the forward bilge area, ensuring efficient water management throughout the vessel.

Safety gear includes four Type II PDF jackets, two additional fire extinguishers, and a throwable floating cushion for emergency situations. The Fireboy remote engine override switch and indicator at the helm offer additional control and safety. Anchoring is made easy with a 22 lb. Delta anchor, complete with 15 feet of galvanized 1/4-inch chain and 200 feet of anchor rode.
