Overview
Rapid, secure and comfortable luxury bluewater sailing yacht with push‑button sail control and a comprehensive spec of options and upgrades. Major refit 2023/2024. Perfect for private cruising or charter.
Detailed Description
Introduction
Available for lease or purchase with attractive financing terms, TRIUMPH is a fine example of the Frers-designed Hylas 70, the current flagship of the popular and highly respected Hylas Yacht Series, built on a semi-custom basis to the highest standards. Fully automated, push-button sail-handling systems make shorthanded sailing effortless, and her long list of additional options includes air conditioning, a generator, bow and stern thrusters, a watermaker, and an extensive package of navigation and entertainment electronics. Since her launch in 2011, TRIUMPH has proven to be a fast, safe, and extremely comfortable bluewater cruiser with an excellent four-cabin layout, ideal for both private use—as enjoyed by the current owner—or charter. Inspections are highly recommended.
Accommodations
TRIUMPH presents a standard four-cabin layout with three ensuite owner/guest cabins and an additional ensuite crew/guest cabin, all executed with finely crafted solid teak joinerwork finished in a satin varnish to an impressively high standard. Solid teak raised-panel cabin doors, fully louvered, raised-panel or latticed cabinet doors, and double-grooved fiddles and handrails lend a timeless maritime elegance, while satin-finished solid teak cabin soles with custom locking mechanisms underscore the yacht’s robust practicality. Head and shower areas are painted in white Awlgrip and feature Corian vanity tops, solid Corian sinks, and molded floors. Cedar-lined hanging lockers with automatic lights, a white fabric headliner with Oceanair hatch screens and blinds, and numerous handrails throughout enhance both comfort and safety. The salon upholstery is Ultraleather, all new in 2022, complemented by tasteful bedding, towels, and other décor, with custom wool area rugs also new in 2022. Twelve-volt fans are thoughtfully placed throughout the yacht.
Forward, a private VIP stateroom offers a queen-sized berth, a settee, and generous storage including a large hanging locker, drawers, and several cabinets; the berth lifts easily on gas pistons to reveal additional space. Two large deck hatches provide abundant light and ventilation. An ensuite head lies forward, and a shower stall with teak grate and seat is shared with the port guest cabin. Ahead of the main salon to port, the second guest cabin features a generous double berth, a hanging locker, and multiple drawers and lockers, served by three opening portholes and a large deck hatch; a head and shower stall are located across the passageway.
TRIUMPH’s main salon feels remarkably spacious for a vessel of this size, owing in part to her generous 18' beam. To port, a large L-settee surrounds a beautiful inlaid laminated table with built-in storage beneath, accompanied by a custom folding bench seat inboard. Outboard, a flat-screen LCD disappears from view on an electric lift. To starboard, two built-in custom lounge chairs are paired with custom liquor and glass lockers outboard. A wine cooler at the forward end of the salon, new in 2024, and an icemaker aft and to port ahead of the galley support effortless entertaining. The entire space is bright and open, thanks to two large deck hatches and teak-trimmed deckhouse windows on three sides.
Aft and to starboard, the forward-facing, L-shaped navigation station provides easy access to the cockpit and a secure command environment. A comfortable pedestal chair fronts multiple built-in backlit switch panels, navigation instruments, and remote-control panels for the watermaker, system monitors, and tank levels. The workspace includes a lift-up chart table with custom storage and a filing drawer, and a new safe was installed in 2024.
Aft and to port, the long, spacious U-shaped galley is designed for life at sea or at anchor, maximizing counter and storage space with well-considered lockers for glassware, dinnerware, and appliances. Corian countertops integrate double stainless sinks, while a Force 10 propane stove with oven and broiler and a GE Profile Advantium convection microwave ensure culinary versatility. Refrigeration is by a Frigoboat 24-volt system with stainless boxes and both keel- and air-cooled compressor units, with new condensers in 2024. Provisioning is managed by double front-opening refrigeration compartments and a freezer with both front and top openings. Safety and redundancy are addressed with a Xintex propane monitor and a manual freshwater backup pump. Raised-panel locker doors maintain the yacht’s refined aesthetic. An access panel beneath the sink spans the full width into the engine room to allow portside engine access, and two portholes deliver natural light and ventilation. Galleyware is aboard.
A passageway extends aft along the starboard side toward the owner’s cabin, where a roomy fourth cabin lies outboard, ideal for crew or guests, offering over/under berths, a large hanging locker, several lockers, and a private head with shower. Two opening portholes illuminate the cabin, with one more in the head.
The owner’s private stateroom, located aft, features a large, nearly king-sized centerline berth that lifts on gas pistons for effortless access to storage and equipment. To port, a vanity complements extensive storage that includes two large hanging lockers, drawers, and numerous cabinets. Forward, a built-in bureau supports a flat-screen TV, while to forward starboard a B&G 9-inch multi-function display, new in 2024, places vital data at a glance. The yacht’s beam carries well aft to create a remarkably open, airy cabin enhanced by a deck hatch and four opening portholes. Along the port side forward, the private head with separate shower stall is appointed with a Raritan freshwater electric toilet, Corian counters, a vanity mirror, and a linen closet, ventilated by two opening portholes.
Navigation equipment
All new in 2024, the navigation suite at the nav station features a B&G H500 system paired with a Zeus 3s 12-inch display, complemented by two ICOM M424 VHF radios and an ICOM M803 MF/HF SSB radio. At the helm stations and the companionway, each helm is equipped with a B&G Zeus 3s 12-inch display, an ICOM remote VHF handset, and B&G autopilot controls, while a B&G Nemesis 9-inch multi-function display is mounted above the companionway with another in the owner’s cabin. B&G H5000 displays are installed at each helm, with two positioned above the companionway.
Entertainment equipment
The yacht is outfitted with a Fusion stereo system, newly installed in 2024, featuring a central unit in the salon, individual controls in each cabin, speakers in every cabin, and four speakers delivering rich sound across the cockpit. Entertainment continues with a KVH HD7 satellite system for Direct TV, currently not in use, complemented by an Insignia 24” LCD in the forward cabin, a Samsung 32” LCD in the main salon paired with a DVD player, and a Samsung 32” LCD in the owner’s cabin. Seamless streaming is provided by AppleTV in both the main salon and the owner’s cabin.
Electrical system
The yacht’s power architecture marries 12/24 volt DC and 110 volt AC electrical systems managed through custom panels at the nav station, delivering flexible, reliable energy offshore. Generation is assured by a Northern Lights 12kW generator with 4,287 hours as of 9/24 and a Fisher Panda 6000 24V generator, new in 2024 with 35 hours as of 9/24. Renewable capacity comes from new bimini-mounted solar panels delivering 1,116W total output via Victron charge controllers installed in 2022, complemented by a Victron inverter/24 volt battery charger (2024) and a Victron 12 volt battery charger (2024). A 115 AMP, 24 volt alternator (2024) provides robust underway charging, tracked by a Xantrex battery monitor. Storage is anchored by a Lifeline AGM, 24V house battery bank (2021) and AGM 4D AGM batteries serving engine/generator start and the 12 volt bank (2024), with all batteries isolated via a built-in reverse-isolation switch. Shore-power sophistication includes two 50A/220V shore connections, an isolation transformer 15KVA 120/240 50/60 for European conversion, and two Glendenning Cable Masters for 50A 75' cords, with cords new in 2022. The installation features tinned copper wire throughout and an electrical bonding system including two three-inch copper strips running bow to stern on each side. Convenience and situational awareness are enhanced by four USB waterproof charge sockets in the cockpit and at the nav station (2024), exhaust blowers for all heads, a Wave WiFi extender and Netgear router (2024), a Siren Marine yacht monitoring system (2024), a mast mounted hailer/loud speaker (2024), a mast mounted FLIR camera system integrated with B&G displays (2024), and two B&G down-facing IP cameras on the masthead (2024).
Lighting—generally all interior and exterior fixtures listed below were replaced with LED in 2024—includes recessed lighting with dimmers, reading lights, courtesy lights, rope accent foot lighting throughout including the cockpit table, cockpit lights built into the bimini, navigation lights, spreader and foredeck lights, aft deck lights, transom stair lighting, and engine room lights.
Engine and mechanical equipment
Power comes from a Yanmar 4LV-250 diesel engine rated at 250 HP, installed new in 2024 and showing 95 hours as of September 2024, complemented by a remote engine panel in the engine room. The driveline features an Aqualoy 22 two-inch propeller shaft mated to a Vari-Prop DF four-blade propeller, serviced in 2024, and a PSS shaft seal fitted in 2024. Fuel management is robust with dual Racor fuel filters and a Walborough inline fuel pump with engine by-pass for fuel polishing, while Teleflex electronic engine controls grace both pedestals. Engine-room refinement includes Soundown insulation, two engine room blowers, an oil change pump system plumbed to the engine, transmission and generator, WEMA tank gauges, and comprehensive fuel/water alarm systems.
Effortless close-quarters handling is delivered by a Lewmar 24-volt bow thruster rated at 250 kg of thrust and serviced in 2024, paired with a Lewmar retractable stern thruster installed in 2024; new combo joystick thruster controls are positioned at both helm stations for intuitive maneuvering. Precision steering comes via a Lewmar Mamba rack-and-pinion system with a 1/2 HP, 24-volt autopilot drive unit, all new in 2024, backed by a Harken dual pump hydraulic system—completely renewed in 2024, including all lines.
Onboard comfort is assured by Cruise Air reverse-cycle air conditioning with four zones delivering a total of 65,000 BTU. Practical amenities include washer and dryer units beneath the port guest berth; dual freshwater pumps—two units—with all plumbing new in 2024; a BlueWater 110-volt watermaker producing over 75 gph, new in 2024; and a Seagull water purifier system plumbed to the faucets in each head and the galley. A Fireboy fuel vapor monitor enhances safety, while an 18-gallon stainless hot water heater and anchor washdown pumps for both fresh and salt water add convenience.
Generous tankage comprises 360 gallons of water in stainless tanks, 710 gallons of fuel in stainless tanks, and 90 gallons of holding capacity. Bilge management is thorough with two automatic electric bilge pumps in the main bilge, one automatic electric bilge pump in the stern lazarette, and one manual bilge pump. Safety and sanitation are further elevated by a Fireboy automatic fire extinguisher system with remote panels, all new in 2024; bronze through-hull fittings and seacocks; and four Raritan Sea Fresh Marine Elegance fresh/saltwater heads served by Jabsco macerator discharge pumps for the waste tanks.
Sails & rigging
Engineered for effortless power, the rig centers on a Selden triple-spreader aluminum mast with hydraulic in-mast furling, complemented by a Furlex hydraulic system installed in 2013. The package is secured by Navtec rod rigging from 2013 together with solid rod standing rigging, while the cutter configuration benefits from a Furlex hydraulic furling system with controls at the helm. Both headsail and staysail furlers are helm-controlled, and mainsail furling is managed from the helm and the cockpit. Sail shape and safety are refined by a Lewmar mainsheet traveler system and a built-in boom preventer. Power management includes winch-driven hydraulic backstays, PBO running backstays with retrieving lines, and a Navtec hydraulic boom vang with split backstay controls, all coordinated through a Harken push-button control panel at the helm. New backstay cylinders and backstay isolators were fitted in 2024, and all running rigging was renewed in 2022. The sail plan features a Doyle furling mainsail from 2019, a Doyle 135% furling genoa with UV sun cover, and a Doyle furling staysail with UV sun cover. Sail handling is empowered by two Antal W 80 hydraulic self-tailing primary winches, two Antal W 66 hydraulic self-tailing winches for the mainsheet and outhaul/spinnaker halyard, two Antal W 66 hydraulic self-tailing staysail/runner winches, two Antal W 44 self-tailing traveler control winches, and two Antal W 52 self-tailing halyard winches at the mast.
Hull and deck
The hull is solid, hand‑laid Twaron‑reinforced fiberglass, engineered with Vinylester resins and an Isophthalic Gelcoat, then safeguarded by an epoxy barrier coating. A balanced spade rudder with partial skeg delivers optimal performance, strength, and protection, while watertight collision bulkheads are positioned aft of the forepeak locker and forward of the aft lazarette. A teak rubrail with a stainless striker adds both durability and refinement.
The deck is molded fiberglass with a balsa core and solid laminate in areas of deck hardware, finished in white Gelcoat with molded‑in gray non‑skid. A modern transom integrates molded‑in steps, a swim platform, and a built‑in swim ladder. The hydraulically opening transom garage door provides effortless access to extensive storage with custom shelving, complemented by large corner lazarette lockers to each side, accessible from the aft deck. On the foredeck, a deep forepeak locker with line hangers is paired with a separate split chain locker forward.
Topsides are finished in white Gelcoat, compounded and waxed 9/24, accented by a blue cove stripe and double blue boot stripes, and a black bottom that received new bottom paint 9/24. Decks are white Gelcoat, compounded and waxed 9/24, with molded‑in beige non‑skid.
Cockpit
One of TRIUMPH’s many design highlights is the expansive cockpit, where twin helm stations provide easy access from both the aft and side decks and offer superb visibility while steering. All sail controls are conveniently within reach at the helms, alongside the navigational equipment. The generous space is designed to accommodate ten comfortably around a beautiful, varnished six-foot teak table with drop-leaves and a built-in drink cooler. Comfort is elevated by custom oversized cockpit cushions with comfort backrests and drink holders (2022), complemented by helm cushions with backrest bolsters (2022). Protection is assured by a bimini with full side enclosures and a large forward panel that preserves unobstructed visibility ahead (2022), while the laid teak cockpit sole underscores the yacht’s timeless craftsmanship.
