Meticulously cared for and in true handover‑ready condition, Second Wind is equipped with everything needed to begin your cruising adventures immediately.

Overview

Second Wind is a handsome and conscientiously maintained Island Packet 440, a popular and proven model featuring two outstanding staterooms with centerline berths, two large heads with separate showers, a gourmet galley, and a forward‑facing navigation station with ample workspace. She carries all the amenities and equipment you need to cast off today, including a cutter rig offering multiple options for any weather or journey, a full electronics array, ample power reserves and solar generation, a broad swim platform, a robust arch with davits, reverse‑cycle air conditioning and heating in two units, a Side‑Power bow thruster, electric primary winches, a Northern Lights genset, a Walker Bay 10’2” dinghy with a 9.9 outboard, comprehensive ship’s spares and gear, a freshly painted bottom and topsides wax in 2025, and refreshed exterior teak in 2025.

The Island Packet 440 embodies the hallmarks of every Island Packet yacht: superior comfort, ease of handling, proven seakeeping, and exceptional safety, all wrapped in timeless good looks that turn heads in any harbor. Designed for long‑distance passagemaking, she is equally at home on a global circumnavigation or coastal cruising, and her interior layout is ideal for a cruising couple who want space for family or guests—or for a full‑time liveaboard lifestyle. Upon entering, the galley is to starboard, arranged as both an efficient and safe workspace at sea; the day head and guest head sit to port of the companionway with the guest quarters aft to port. Facing settees in the main salon create inviting lounging and dining areas around Island Packet’s signature bulkhead‑mounted table; the starboard settee pulls out to form an additional double berth when needed. Just forward of the galley to starboard lies the 440’s most distinctive feature: a huge forward‑facing nav station that consolidates navigational equipment and master electrical panels in a secure, well‑supported seat with an excellent backrest. Both cabins feature true island berths that allow easy access from either side, and both heads are fitted with separate stall showers. Stainless steel ports, a protected rudder and prop, inorganically cored decks, a solid glass hull, and countless thoughtful touches throughout reflect Island Packet’s dedication to quality and durability inside and out.

The gourmet galley is comprehensively equipped with Frigoboat 12V refrigeration with digital controls and separate fridge/freezer compartments, an Engle MT45F‑U1 stand‑alone 12V freezer, a Force 10 gimballed three‑burner propane stove with oven and lift‑off cover, a GE microwave oven, a stainless steel double sink with retractable spray, Corian countertops with sea rails, a Seagull IV water filtration system, an Acu‑Gauge tank monitoring system, a slide‑out trash bin, teak dish racks and cutlery drawers, two 5 lb propane cylinders in a dedicated locker, and abundant cabinet and locker storage.

On deck, she offers an integral bow platform with SeaSafe anchor rollers and a large chain locker with divided rode bins and hooks for lines and fenders, a Mantus anchor bridle with hook, and a custom stainless steel arch by Marine Manufacturing (Miami) with davits, solar panels, and a bimini frame. A built‑in motor mount and lift system serves the tender. Three Kyocera 135W solar panels feed a Xantrex XW MPPT controller. Ground tackle includes a Rocna 25 anchor with 250’ of chain plus a Bruce 50 anchor with 200’ of chain, all handled by a Lofrans vertical electric windlass with remote at the helm. In the cockpit, a teak and holly custom table by Cruising Concepts, cockpit cushions and a captain’s helm seat enhance comfort, while a Walker Bay 10’2” tender with a 9.9HP four‑stroke outboard rides securely on the davits. A broad swim platform integrates a ladder, an emergency ladder, and a hot/cold cockpit shower, and fresh‑ and saltwater washdowns are fitted at the bow.

Her sail plan and rig are optimized for versatility and control, with a cutter rig carrying Doyle sails from 2015, a Selden premium in‑mast roller‑furling mainsail, a 110% roller‑furling genoa on a Harken furler, and a Harken roller‑furling staysail set on a Hoyt self‑vanging boom. A rigid boom vang with a Selden Rodkicker supports the mainsail, while power handling comes from two electric Lewmar 54 primary winches complemented by a full suite of Lewmar winches for halyards, mainsheet, and furling lines. Custom Glebe Creek companionway screens and doors complete the canvas and enclosure details.

The electronics, navigational, audio, and entertainment suite comprises a Raymarine Axiom E80 chartplotter with Navionics, Raymarine ST60 wind, speed, and depth instruments, Raymarine AIS and a 4KW HD radar mounted on the mast, a Simrad autopilot, an Icom M422 VHF at the nav station plus two handheld VHFs, a Clarion AM/FM/CD/MP3 stereo with Fusion Bluetooth (2013) feeding speakers in the salon and cockpit, and a Samsung flatscreen TV in the forward cabin.

Mechanical and plumbing systems include a Yanmar 4JH3TE 75HP diesel turning a Max folding prop, a Side‑Power 6HP bow thruster, and a Northern Lights 6KW genset (2013) showing 1,214 hrs. Climate control is provided by two marine air‑conditioning/reverse‑cycle heat units rated at 16,000 BTU each. Sanitation is handled by Dometic Vacuflush electric heads with a direct overboard option for offshore use. A remote oil filter, easy priming pump, and a service‑friendly engine layout simplify maintenance.

Electrical systems feature five AGM house batteries plus an AGM start battery, a Victron Multiplus 12/2000/80 inverter/charger with remote control, a Victron battery monitor with Bluetooth, a high‑output Balmar 100‑amp alternator with DuoCharge and a 612 regulator, an isolation transformer installed in 2022, LED interior lighting, and multiple shore power cords with a splitter.

Ship’s spares and gear are extensive and include a complete set of manuals; a spare prop, pumps, filters, and impellers; a rebuilt Yanmar starter motor; replacement parts for the windlass, strainers, Vacuflush, and more; fenders, dock lines, life jackets, and jack lines; a Magma grill with mounting system; a bosun’s chair; and a wide array of consumables and service items for both engine and generator.

Recent upgrades and service are exemplary. At Safe Harbor City Boat Yard in Charleston, SC, in September 2022 the yacht was hauled, cleaned, sanded, and bottom‑painted. In February 2023 the shaft and seal were replaced; a new cutlass bearing with a PSS dripless system was installed; the stern tube was cleaned, inspected, and reinstalled; the rudder post was serviced; the rigging was inspected and select running rigging replaced; and the dodger/bimini enclosure was completely redesigned and replaced, with the height raised to more than 6’, with $45,923 invested in the above work. In 2024 the windlass and all winches were serviced, a Rocna anchor was added, custom Zarcor companion hatch doors were installed, Vacuflush systems were rebuilt, overhead light bulbs were replaced with LED and switches changed to deluxe push‑pull units, and additional LED lighting was added to the galley. At Gratitude Marina & Boat Yard in 2025 the yacht was hauled, cleaned, and bottom‑painted; the original 160‑gallon fuel tank was replaced with a new 100‑gallon tank with all necessary modifications; fuel lines were replaced; the bilge was cleaned and painted during the work; all exterior teak was stripped and refinished; both the main engine and generator were serviced; and all Racor filters were replaced. Ongoing maintenance has included general servicing with oil and fuel filters every 100 hours since purchase, and zincs replaced on a regular schedule.

From the owner’s perspective, Second Wind’s interior is warm and inviting. Thirteen opening ports with screens and eight hatches with OceanAir screens and shades flood the cabin with light and airflow. Furniture‑quality satin‑gloss varnish enriches the select teak hardwood veneers on bulkheads and cabinetry. Descending the companionway, the open salon reveals full‑length settees on both sides upholstered in beautiful Ultraleather; the starboard settee extends toward the centerline to form a comfortable double berth, and both settees can serve as sea berths. A cedar‑lined hanging locker sits outboard with a shelf above. Island Packet’s signature fold‑up bulkhead‑mounted dining table accommodates a large group when deployed and stows neatly when not in use. All switches have been updated for LED compatibility, all overhead lights are LED, and fire extinguishers have been updated to comply with Coast Guard requirements.

The forward‑facing navigation center offers seating for two, a satin chart table with a storage tray, and a generous nav/electronics panel integrating the master AC/DC electrical panels. The wide bench seat lifts via removable panels to reveal the dedicated generator compartment, and the entire nav center can fold up and lock in place if desired. The forward owner’s stateroom spans the beam with a generous offset island berth accessible from both sides; the berth is hinged and lifts on gas struts for ample storage. A cedar‑lined hanging locker and teak bureau complement a portside dressing seat, and the cabin includes a Samsung TV with a mast‑mounted GloMax antenna. The adjacent private head features a large stall shower with folding acrylic doors, a Vacuflush toilet, a vanity with an acrylic countertop and molded sink, mirrored storage cabinets, and large drawers. Aft, the guest stateroom offers a large offset double island berth, a roomy cedar‑lined hanging locker with extra‑height rods outboard, and an array of cabinets, bins, and shelves; as in the owner’s stateroom, the berth top hinges on gas struts to reveal generous storage beneath. The aft head mirrors the forward with matching acrylic countertops, a separate shower stall with a seat and folding acrylic doors, and a VacuFlush toilet; one door opens near the companionway for day access and another provides private access from the stateroom.

The cockpit is roomy, safe, and comfortable beneath the near‑new bimini/dodger. The large swim platform incorporates twin molded‑in steps to port and starboard, a hot/cold shower, and a fold‑out swim ladder; full‑length, ergonomically shaped cockpit seats with full cushions, dual deep seat lockers, line storage bins, extra‑wide coamings with numerous storage bins, four harness pad eyes, and two 2' cockpit scuppers enhance both safety and utility, while the engine panel sits adjacent to the helm in a covered alcove. For offshore convenience the boat is equipped with a direct flush system, allowing overboard discharge without relying on the macerator and pumping system when offshore. Forward, a large anchor locker with an overhead deck hatch and large divided rode bins provides numerous hooks for lines, fenders, and gear, with a shelf that helps direct chain and rode aft. Welded stainless‑steel mast rails, double lifelines with stainless‑steel bow and stern rails, and stainless‑steel dorade‑style vents with guards underscore the yacht’s purposeful, seakindly design.
