Detailed Description
Description
The Mariner Orient 34 Flybridge is a classic cruising trawler that delivers far more space and comfort than her length suggests, with two private cabins and a total of seven berths, generous elbow room, abundant storage, and a head and galley both larger than expected. Powered by a dependable Cummins 6BTA5.9 diesel rated at 220 HP and aided by a Volvo Penta bow thruster, “Jillian Claire” makes close-quarters maneuvering feel effortless, easy to drive and even easier to “park.” Remarkably fuel‑efficient, she is an ideal Great Loop cruiser or a wonderfully comfortable liveaboard, and truly a must‑see.
Overview
Step aboard “Jillian Claire” and discover a thoughtful, seaworthy layout. Forward, the large Vee berth stateroom features its own ensuite head to port and a spacious hanging locker to starboard. The head offers a commode, a sink with a pull‑out shower/faucet, a large teak mirror and a medicine cabinet, while an opening port and screened overhead hatch invite excellent ventilation. Just inside the forward cabin to starboard, the electric panel is neatly positioned with a storage cabinet below.
Aft, the pilothouse/saloon/galley becomes the warm heart of the boat. A sliding entry door welcomes you in, and the helm to starboard enjoys superb sightlines; the windshield’s center section opens to sweep in fresh air. To starboard, a convertible berth/dinette sleeps 2 and seats 4 in comfort, flanked by large sliding windows that brighten the space. To port, the galley is properly equipped with a Princess propane three‑burner stove/oven, a deep sink, and an under‑counter refrigerator, with plentiful built‑in storage keeping everything shipshape. Two fixed ports at the aft end add even more natural light. The generator is accessed beneath the helm/galley sole, and the Cummins diesel sits below the saloon/dining area for easy maintenance access.
Three steps down aft, the private aft cabin provides twin single berths and its own ensuite head. At the stern of this cabin, a companionway leads directly to the aft deck, serving both as a convenient secondary egress and a superb source of natural airflow.
Daily life aboard is enhanced by hot and cold pressure domestic water, a handsome teak and holly sole, and a microwave oven fitted in 2023.
“Jillian Claire” is equipped with both 12V ship and 110V shorepower electrical systems. A dependable Onan 6.5 kW generator supports life at anchor, while 110V receptacles are distributed throughout. Power storage comes from two 8D batteries, one in each of two banks dedicated respectively to the house/engine and to the thruster. Shorepower connectivity is assured with two cords. Additional comforts include the engine alternator, a 110V hot water heater, and an Aqua Cal heat pump with fore and aft zones, complemented by ceiling and reading lights throughout.
Navigation and electronics are ready for confident voyaging: compasses at both interior and flybridge helms, a clock and barometer, a Garmin 3006C GPS Map, and Furuno depth sounders at each helm. Communications are handled by a Standard Horizon VHF radio with remote access on the flybridge (2023) and a West Marine handheld VHF. Night running is aided by new navigation running lights (2024), LED spreader lights (2023), and a masthead anchor light (2023).
Mechanically, she is exactly what a cruising trawler should be: a Cummins 6BTA5.9 220 HP fresh‑water‑cooled diesel engine with a Cummins serpentine belt, new engine starter (2022), engine raw water pump (2022), and raw water strainer (2022), plus a sensible inventory of engine spares. Ship systems include a fresh water pump, an aft shower sump pump (2022), an electric bilge pump with auto/manual switch, and a mechanical bilge pump. Propulsion is delivered via a 3‑blade bronze prop, and close‑quarters control is assured by a VOLVO PENTA bow thruster.
On deck, her cruising kit is complete: a comprehensive USCG safety package, mooring and docklines, and a Lewmar Pro anchor windlass with a new motor fitted in 2018. Ground tackle includes a Bruce anchor with 100' of chain and 100' of 3‑strand nylon rode, plus a Danforth anchor with 12' of chain and 100' of 3‑strand nylon rode. A dropping mast and boom accommodate a steadying sail and lifting duties, and the flybridge is shaded by a bimini to keep the helmsman and guests cool and comfortable.
