Overview
The Marlow Explorer stands among the most celebrated bluewater motor yachts, and “The Garlic” is a timeless example—mechanically dialed-in and truly cruise-ready. With notably low engine hours versus comparable offerings and an asking figure set to outshine the field, she represents a compelling opportunity for the discerning long-range cruising buyer.
Having completed multiple passages to the Bahamas and enjoyed consistent use, she was only set aside when her owners opted to upsize. With their larger Marlow now in hand, this 70E becomes available for the next steward—suited beautifully to an owner-operator or to an owner with crew—ready to step aboard and go.
“The Garlic” is a lovely yacht that would flourish with light cosmetic refreshes tailored to her next owner’s aesthetic, a consideration more than offset by her value position as the most attractively priced on the market. She also boasts the lowest hours on her twin Caterpillar power among current listings. Sellers will consider all reasonable offers.
Admired for her striking profile and classic lines, this seaworthy offshore cruiser is engineered for extended passages yet can deliver spirited performance when called upon. The Flag Blue Awlgrip hull color is perennially desired, and the build quality reflects best-in-class yacht construction. A sophisticated composite of DuPont Kevlar, vinylester resins, Core-Cell foam, and advanced fabrics is vacuum-bagged and formed in just three principal molds, minimizing visible joints and maximizing structural integrity to shrug off tough seas and floating debris.
Patented Velocijet Strut Keels enhance efficiency, tracking, and protection through challenging conditions, while the Core-Cell foam adds exceptional rigidity along with superior acoustic and thermal insulation—translating to a quieter, more comfortable ride on long passages.
Her recent updates and equipment suite underscore a yacht prepared for immediate enjoyment: fresh paint above the rub rail and along the topsides, a newly applied non-skid on the foredeck, a new bottom job, and a crisp engine-room repaint. Carpentry enhancements include renewed steps for the crew area and engine room, and the crane has been refinished and repainted. Systems have been thoughtfully renewed with new engine and house batteries, re-bedded and recaulked windows, new engine alternators, a new watermaker, and new props. Propulsion is by reliable twin Caterpillar 3406s (800 hp) with low hours, delivering a top speed of 19 knots, while Naiad fin stabilizers, bow and stern thrusters, and an open flying bridge with new Isinglass provide confident handling and open-air enjoyment. Accommodations comprise three staterooms and four heads, and all services are current, with every AC compressor and air handler recently replaced.
In sum, this Marlow Explorer 70E combines pedigree, performance, and thoughtful upgrades with market-leading value, inviting her next owner to embark on effortless offshore adventures with confidence and style.
Detailed Description
Manufacturer provided description
Marlow Explorer Yachts are limited-production yachts crafted under constant supervision and stringent quality-control procedures. The Marlow Explorer 70E is designed and built to cross the oceans of the world in comfort and safety, while the proprietary Strut Keel technology enables inland and island cruising with fully protected running gear.
Additional description
Crafted with only the finest components, the Marlow Explorer’s hull, deck, and superstructure are specified with Dupont Kevlar, CoreCell, and advanced engineering construction fabrics, while Vinylester and Epoxy resins and glues are used throughout. Mechanical systems are equally uncompromising, incorporating top quality elements such as Aquadrive constant velocity joints, Tides seals, and Trace inverters. Within the lovely hand finished interior, renowned names including Sub Zero, Dacor, Asko, Bosch, Franke, Grohe, and their peers elevate life aboard, while fine fabrics of Ultraleather and other top brands grace each surface. The result is evocative of an era when quality, not quantity, defined the hallmark of a fine yacht.
Walkthrough
Step into a main salon that is elegantly and tastefully appointed, where 24V Italian and Danish lighting, accent illumination behind the valances, and three well-placed table lamps create a distinct and inviting ambiance for both lounging and dining. Tinted windows are dressed with beautiful wood blinds and refined curtain accents, while to starboard a supple Ultraleather built-in U-settee provides generous seating for guests. A flat-screen TV rises on an electric lift with remote control, flanked by two very comfortable leather chairs set along the port side just forward of the stairs leading down to the crew quarters. The adjacent dining area centers on a rectangular dining table featuring a glass top over teak and six dining chairs, complemented by a custom china cabinet with teak-divided, framed glass doors, cupboards, and multiple drawers for dish and glass storage.
The U-shaped galley is superbly equipped for serious culinary work and easy entertaining, its beautiful black granite countertops framing top-tier appliances and abundant storage for housewares and provisions. A smooth Dacor cooktop with sea rails and potholders pairs with a Dacor twenty-seven-inch oven centered below, while a Fisher & Paykel single-drawer dishwasher and a SubZero refrigerator/freezer with four drawers handle cleanup and cold storage. Details such as a Grohe faucet, a Franke double sink with cover, a convenient cracker keeper, a microwave oven, and a warm teak and holly sole complete this highly functional space that opens seamlessly to the pilothouse social area.
Up three steps, the pilothouse offers a commanding yet comfortable perch with a large helm chair for the captain beside a gorgeous teak dinette with Ultraleather seating for guests. Overhead, an organized systems panel houses electronics, breakers, stabilizer controls, inverter control, a tank tender, and the vessel control center. Navigation and communications are comprehensive, with twin Garmin 7215 chart plotters, a new forward-looking Garmin sonar, a Simrad AP20 autopilot with display and AP21, a Yacht Controller, an ICOM M604 VHF radio with antenna, and an SSB ICOM IC M802. Instrumentation includes an ISI 5 wind square display, a Garmin GPI 10 display for depth and speed, and a six-inch Ritchie compass, while a fifteen-inch flat-screen TV and a new watermaker installed in 2022 round out the amenities.
The athwartship master stateroom is exceptionally roomy, finished with a teak and holly sole and appointed with an island queen berth featuring under-berth drawers, a dresser, and a linen closet. Portlights with screens, night lighting around the berth, and soft illumination behind the valances complement the 24V Italian and Danish fixtures for a serene atmosphere. The expansive en-suite head includes a vanity with black granite counters, ample drawers and cabinets with shelves for toiletries and linens, a tub and shower, and a separate shower room with its own sink, mirrored cabinet, and additional storage. Aft, down two steps, an office area offers two desks with swinging stools that nest beneath, shelving above one desk, and two fax and phone outlets at each desk; to port, behind teak louvered doors, the upgraded washer and dryer are neatly concealed. Additional comforts include a large flat-screen television, a stereo system with CD, a full-height cedar-lined hanging locker with automatic lighting, a dresser, and a hanging mirror.
Forward to port, the VIP stateroom features a queen island berth with under-berth storage, teak and holly sole, a cedar-lined hanging locker, and a fifteen-inch Panasonic flat-screen television set within a full-height TV locker, complemented by a telephone and above-berth reading lights. Its en-suite VacuFlush head, which also serves as a day head via the companionway, offers granite counters and a separate stall shower; outboard of the shower is a large linen locker, and both the head and the shower are fitted with exhaust fans vented outside the vessel.
Amidships to port, the guest stateroom provides over/under twin berths on a teak and holly sole, a desk with drawer, a flat-screen television—specifically a fifteen-inch Panasonic—and private head with shower and vanity. Storage is abundant, with a cedar-lined hanging locker in the stateroom and another cedar-lined hanging locker to starboard just outside in the companionway, bringing the total to two cedar-lined hanging lockers. The arrangement includes two twin berths to comfortably accommodate additional guests.
On the flybridge, the upper helm station is equipped with twin helm seats and two large L-settees aft, all protected beneath the factory hardtop, while a canvas extension adds further shelter for those seated aft. The helm suite features a new Garmin 4212 chart plotter, new isinglass, an AP20 Robertson autopilot with display and an AP21 plug-in receptacle for remote, an R44 ten-inch color radar repeater in Sunview configuration, an RD68 Simrad VHF radio with heavy-duty antenna and mount, and a CE42 Simrad chart plotter/depth display. Entertainment and safety are addressed with Sirius satellite radio, a new six-man life raft, and a six-inch Ritchie compass, while the ISI 5 wind square display repeater, ISI 5 multi square display repeater, and ISI 5 combi square display ensure clear data at a glance.
The electrical system is engineered for reliability, featuring an electrical bonding system; 20kw (3780 hrs) and 12kw (1422 hrs) generators housed in a custom Lexan see-through sound shield; a Trace 4kw inverter complemented by a new inverter; a battery parallel switch; and four 200AH batteries, one for the generator and four for service. A 24v lighting system with Italian and Danish fixtures provides warm, efficient illumination throughout, while an AC/DC distribution panel with magnetic circuit breakers, a voltage meter, and four Glendinning cablemasters complete the power management suite.
On deck, amenities include a cockpit shower and a 1200lb Nautical Structures full-rotation davit that services a Nautica 12 WB tender powered by a 40HP Yamaha four-stroke outboard. Ground tackle and washdowns are robust, with a Maxwell VWC 3500C windlass, twin stainless anchors, fresh and salt water washdowns including a dedicated fresh water and sea water washdown system at the bow, and in-deck storage bins for lines and fenders, while dinghy chocks keep the tender secure underway.
The engine room reflects diligent care and thoughtful engineering, with recent services including heat exchangers, water pumps, and a full service in Fall 2023. Illumination is excellent via 12V and 110V AquaSignal lighting, and ventilation is assured with exhaust blowers and high-capacity induction blowers. Mechanical systems include a flexible drive coupling system, a Sidepower bow thruster rated at 20hp with 48V dual propeller configuration, a stern thruster, NAIAD 250 heavy-duty digitized stabilizers, soft engine mounts, and an emergency engine stop. The chilled-water air-conditioning compressors have been recently replaced, with air conditioning throughout. Monitoring and safety are comprehensive, with an engine hour meter and gauges, an oil temperature alarm, a fire control system supported by three fire extinguishers, and three-inch lead/foam engine room insulation. Fluid and bilge management are handled by FRP fuel tanks, dual Racor fuel separators with vacuum gauges for each engine, four 3700gph bilge pumps with auto and manual switches, and a watertight door with window leading forward from the crew quarters.
