Overview

1988 34' Rybovich‑Designed Custom Cold‑Molded Sportfisherman

With the unmistakable pedigree of a Rybovich‑designed hull and the warmth of cold‑molded craftsmanship, this classic 34‑footer captures the essence of a true custom sportfish—agile, quiet, and beautifully balanced. At 34 feet overall with an 11‑foot beam, she delivers a confident, dry ride and a remarkably spacious feel, whether you’re chasing a bluewater bite or slipping away for a refined weekend on the coast.

Twin Cummins inboard diesels provide the dependable, economical performance owner‑operators prize, translating hull efficiency into effortless range and reassuring torque. The cold‑molded hull and deck not only elevate the ride with strength and acoustic calm, they also lend a timeless, handcrafted aesthetic that will never go out of style.

The cockpit invites serious sportfishing and effortless entertaining alike, with the kind of clean, purposeful layout a tournament gameboat demands. Forward, the helm offers excellent sightlines and intuitive control—ideal for confident docking, precise trolling, and long, comfortable days underway.

Below, a cozy, thoughtfully arranged cabin sleeps two in comfort, blending classic joinery with practical stowage. A private head adds welcome autonomy on overnight runs, while the cabin’s smart use of space makes it a refined retreat at anchor. With approximately 276 gallons of diesel on board, the boat offers cruising freedom well beyond the harbor, and a 40‑gallon freshwater reserve supports carefree weekends.

This 1988 build is a rare blend of substance and soul—custom where it counts, efficient where it matters, and elegant everywhere your eye lands. Lying in the United States and ready for her next chapter, she is a compelling choice for anglers, enthusiasts, and purists seeking a Classic Custom Sportfisherman that feels as good to run as it is to behold.

Detailed Description

Remarks

PT 73 is a classic Michael Rybovich design and build, comprehensively upgraded and presenting spectacularly inside and out. She has been captain‑maintained with an open checkbook, and every service and maintenance task has been performed by Michael Rybovich.

Walkthrough

Built using cold‑molded construction, PT 73 is a true walkaround express fisherman, giving 360‑degree fishability with confident footing. Below, her cabin offers a practical galley, a forward berth sleeping two, and a private head with shower—compact, efficient, and ready for extended days on the water.

Cabin

The cabin was completely rewired in 2008, including a new panel, and thoughtfully refitted with a stainless countertop and backsplash installed in 2008, a stainless sink, and an under‑counter refrigerator. Abundant drawer and shelf storage keeps provisions orderly, while the SMX II air‑conditioning system maintains perfect climate over a warm teak‑and‑holly sole. Forward, the berth includes storage below, maximizing every inch for practical, ship‑shape living.

Head

A sliding door opens to a private head appointed with an electric toilet and finished with a classic teak‑and‑holly sole, delivering comfort and cleanliness in a compact footprint.

Bridge Deck

Command comes naturally from the center‑console Rybovich helm with hydraulic wheel steering, where flush‑mounted electronics and clear mechanical gauges place vital information at a glance. A forward L‑shaped settee invites guests into the action, protected by a crystal‑clear EZ2CY enclosure. Overhead, a High Seas full tuna tower with hardtop and molded‑in navigation lights extends sightlines offshore, while a convenient drink box keeps refreshments at hand.

Cockpit

The cockpit is all business with teak covering boards and a teak deck—renewed in 2013 when the fuel tank was replaced and a new teak deck installed by Michael Rybovich. Purpose‑built features include port and starboard gaff lockers, two in‑deck live bait wells, a tuna door, electric reel plugs, bright spreader lights, and a dedicated tackle center, with fresh‑ and saltwater washdowns to keep the deck spotless between bites.

Electronics/Navigation-Helm

At the helm, navigation is anchored by two Garmin 8716xsv chartplotter/sonar units, a Garmin Fantom 54 radar, a Garmin control pad, and a Garmin GHC20 autopilot control, complemented by an Icom M510 VHF radio and a Fusion RA770 stereo. An ACR spotlight punches through the dark, while underwater lights set the mood and enhance safety around the docks.

Electronics/Navigation-Tower

A Garmin 943xsv chartplotter at the tower puts full‑function navigation right where you need it when you’re spotting fish and reading water from above.

Engine Room/Mechanical

Power is delivered by twin 330HP Cummins engines, new in 2003, backed by a Northern Lights 5.5kW generator for reliable ship’s power. The vessel was rewired at Rybovich in 2008; that same year the air conditioning and refrigeration were replaced, and the engine room was re‑hosed and replumbed. Mechanical highlights include dripless shaft logs, a Bennett trim tab, an oil change system, a Mastervolt battery charger with new batteries in 2017, Racor primary fuel filters, ZF electronic controls, LED lighting, a fire system, and a fresh‑water pressure system for confident, low‑maintenance operation.
